  • The authors aim to establish the theory necessary for developing the free gyroscopic compass and focus on mainly two points. One is to suggest north-finding principle by the angular velocity of the earth's rotation, and the other is to suggest orthogonal coordinate transformations of the motion rate of the spin axis, which transforms the components of motion rate in the free gyro frame into those in the platform frame and that this transformed rate is, in turn, transformed into the NED(north-east-down) navigation frame. Subsequently, ship's heading is obtained by using the fore-aft and athwartship components of the motion rate of the spin axis in the NED frame. In addition it was found how to solve the transformation matrix necessary for transforming each frame.

  • In recent days high perfermance graphic operation is needed, since computer graphics is widely used for computer-aided design and simulator using high resolution graphic card. In this paper a graphic accelerator is designd with the functions of graphic primitives generation and geometrical transformations. 1-D Systolic Array Processor for Matris Vector operation is designed and used in main ALU of a graphic accelerator, since these graphic algorithms have comonon operation of Matris Vector. Conclusively, in case that the resolution of graphic domain is 800$\times$600, and 33.3nsec operator is used in a graphic accelerator, 29732 lines per second and approximately 6244 circles per second is generated.

  • We present fast QR factorization algorithms $m{\times}n\;(m{\geq}n)$ Toeplitz matrix. These QR factorization algortihms are determined from the shift-invariance properties of underlying matrices. The major transformation tool is a stabilized/hyperbolic Householder transformation. The algortihms require O(mn) operations, and can be easily implemented on distributed-memory multiprocessors.

  • In this paper, multi-story buildings with shear-wall structures and with narrow rectangular plane configuration are modeled as a multi-step flexural-shear plate with varying cross-section for buckling analysis. The governing differential equation of such a plate is established. Using appropriate transformations, the equation is reduced to analytically solvable equations by selecting suitable expressions of the distribution of stiffness. The exact solutions for buckling of such a one-step flexural-shear plate with variable stiffness are derived for several cases. A new exact approach that combines the transfer matrix method and closed from solution of one-step flexural-shear plate with continuously varying stiffness is presented for stability analysis of multi-step non-uniform flexural-shear plate. A numerical example shows that the present methods are easy to implement and efficient.

  • The aim of this paper is to introduce the binomial sequence spaces $b_0^{r,s}(\nabla)$, $b_c^{r,s}(\nabla)$ and $b_{\infty}^{r,s}(\nabla)$ by combining the binomial transformation and difference operator. We prove that these spaces are linearly isomorphic to the spaces $c_0$, c and ${\ell}_{\infty}$, respectively. Furthermore, we compute the Schauder bases and the ${\alpha}-$, ${\beta}-$ and ${\gamma}-duals$ of these sequence spaces.

  • The present paper develops a method to check the propriety of link functions for binary data. In order to parameterize a certain type of goodness of the link, a family of link functions indexed by a shape parameter is proposed. I first investigate the maximum likelihood estimation of the shape parameter as well as regression parameters and then derive their large sample behaviors of the estimators. A score test is considered to evaluate the goodness of the current link function. For illustration, I employ two families of power transformations, the modulus transformation by John and Draper (1980) and the extended power transformation by Yeo and Johnson (2000), which are appropriate to detect symmetric and asymmetric inadequacy of the selected link function. respectively.

  • In this paper, we propose a generalized index independent stability condition for a descriptor systemwithout any transformations of system matrices. First, the generalized Lyapunov equation with a specific right-handed matrix form is considered. Furthermore, the existence theorem and the necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotically stable descriptor systems are presented. Finally, some suitable examples are used to show the validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a new delay-dependent stability condition for uncertain time-delay systems, which is simple yet not as conservative as previous ones in the literature. The proposed condition, which is formulated in terms of linear matrix inequalities, does not employ any model transformation and therefore is free from the conservatism due to model transformations. Numerical examples are presented to show the usefulness of the proposed condition.

  • A new method identifies coupled fluid-structure system with a reduced set of state variables is presented. Assuming that the structural model is known a priori either from an analysis or a test and using linear transformations between structural and aeroelastic states, it is possible to deduce aerodynamic information from sampled time histories of the aeroelastic system. More specifically given a finite set of structural modes the method extracts generalized aerodynamic force matrix corresponding to these mode shapes. Once the aerodynamic forces are known, an aeroelastic reduced-order model can be constructed in discrete-time, state-space format by coupling the structural model and the aerodynamic system. The resulting reduced-order model is suitable for constant Mach, varying density analysis.

  • Using appropriate transformations, the differential equation for flexural free vibration of a cantilever bar with variably distributed mass and stiffness is reduced to a Bessel's equation or an ordinary differential equation with constant coefficients by selecting suitable expressions, such as power functions and exponential functions, for the distributions of stiffness and mass. The general solutions for flexural free vibration of one-step bar with variable cross-section are derived and used to obtain the frequency equation of multi-step cantilever bars. The new exact approach is presented which combines the transfer matrix method and closed form solutions of one step bars. Two numerical examples demonstrate that the calculated natural frequencies and mode shapes of a 27-storey building and a television transmission tower are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental data. It is also shown through the numerical examples that the selected expressions are suitable for describing the distributions of stiffness and mass of typical tall buildings and high-rise structures.
