  • The antiferroelectric liquid crystal display (AFLCD) is unique display that can show the perfect moving image using the passive matrix driving scheme. We optimized the driving waveform and introduced the dual driving method. Also, by improving this driving method and using line inversion method, we realized AFLC display with high image quality, which has 160(RGB)${\times}$240, 32768colors, crosstalk free and flicker free. The contrast ratio is greater than 60:1, and the brightness is above 200cd/$m^2$.

  • This paper introduces an efficient affine projection algorithm(APA) using iterative hyperplane projection. Among various fast converging adaptation algorithms, APA has been preferred to be employed for various applications due to its inherent effectiveness against the rank deficient problem. However, the amount of complexity of the conventional APA could not be negligible because of the accomplishment of sample matrix inversion(SMI). Moreover, the 'shifting invariance property' usually exploited in single channel case does not hold for the application of space-time decision-directed equalizer(STDE) deployed in single-input-multi-output(SIMO) systems. Thus, it is impossible to utilize the fast adaptation schemes such as fast transversal filter(FlF) having low-complexity. To accomplish such tasks, this paper introduces the low-complexity APA by employing hyperplane projection algorithm, which shows the excellent tracking capability as well as the fast convergence. In order to confirm th validity of the proposed method, its performance is evaluated under wireless SIMO channel in respect to bit error rate(BER) behavior and computational complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose a new computationally efficient joint iterative multi-input multi-output (MIMO) detection scheme using a soft interference cancellation and minimum mean squared-error (SIC-MMSE) method. The critical computational burden of the SIC-MMSE scheme lies in the multiple inverse operations of the complex matrices. We find a new way which requires only a single matrix inversion by utilizing the Taylor series expansion of the matrix, and thus the computational complexity can be reduced. The computational complexity reduction increases as the number of antennas is increased. The simulation results show that our method produces almost the same performances as the conventional SIC-MMSE with reduced computational complexity.

  • We extend the sue of the method of least square to develop a recursive algorithm for the design of adaptive transversal filters such that, given the least-square estimate of this vector of the filter at iteration n-1, we may compute the updated estimate of this vector at i(oration n upon the arrival of new data. The RLS algorithm may be viewed as a special case of the Kalman filter. Indeed this special relationship between the RLS algorithm and the Kalman filter is considered. We begin the development of the RLS algorithm by reviewing some basic relations that pertain to the method of least squares. Then, by exploiting a relation in matrix algebra known as the matrix inversion lemma, we develop the RLS algorithm. An important feature of the RLS algorithm is that it utilizes information contained in the input data, extending back to the instant of time when the algorithm is initiated. The resulting rate of convergence is therefore typically an order of magnitude faster than the simple LMS algorithm. This improvement in performance, however, Is achieved at the expensive of a large increase in computational complexity.

  • Substructuring methods are usually used in finite element structural analyses. In this study a multi-level substructuring algorithm is developed and proposed as a possible candidate for incompressible fluid solves. Finite element formulation for incompressible flow has been stabilized by a modified residual procedure proposed by Ilinca et.al.[5]. The present algorithm consists of four stages such as a gathering stage, a condensing stage, a solving stage and a scattering stage. At each level, a predetermined number of elements are gathered and condensed to form an element of higher level. At highest level, each subdomain consists of only one super-element. Thus, the inversion process of a stiffness matrix associated with internal degrees of freedom of each subdomain has been replaced by a sequential static condensation. The global algebraic system arising feom the assembly of each subdomains is solved using Conjugate Gradient Squared(CGS) method. In this case, pre-conditioning techniques usually accompanied by iterative solvers are not needed.

  • The power flow calculations(PFc) are the most important and powerful tools in power systems engineering. The conventional power flow problem is solved generally with numerical methods such as Newton-Raphson(NR). The conventional numerical method generally have some convergency problem, which is sensitive to initial value, and numerical stability problem concerned with jacobian matrix inversion. This paper presents a new PFc algorithm based on the improved genetic algorithm (IGA) which can overcome the disadvantages mentioned above. The parameters of GA, with dynamical hierarchy of the coding system, are improved to make GA a practical algorithm in the problem of real system. Some case studies with test bus system also present to show the performance of proposed algorithm. The results of proposed algorithm are compared with the results of PFc obtained using a conventional NR method.

  • LS-SVM(least squares support vector machine) is a widely applicable and useful machine learning technique for classification and regression analysis. LS-SVM can be a good substitute for statistical method but computational difficulties are still remained to operate the inversion of matrix of huge data set. In modern information society, we can easily get huge data sets by on line or batch mode. For these kind of huge data sets, we suggest an on line pruning regression method by LS-SVM. With relatively small number of pruned support vectors, we can have almost same performance as regression with full data set.

  • Ridge regression (RR), principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares regression (PLS) are among popular regression methods for collinear data. While RR adds a small quantity called ridge constant to the diagonal of X'X to stabilize the matrix inversion and regression coefficients, PCR and PLS use latent variables derived from original variables to circumvent the collinearity problem. One problem of PCR and PLS is that they are very sensitive to overfitting. A new regression method is presented by combining RR and PCR and PLS, respectively, in a unified manner. It is intended to provide better predictive ability and improved stability for regression models. A real-world data from NIR spectroscopy is used to investigate the performance of the newly developed regression method.

  • The semi-analytic sensitivity analysis using Pade approximation is presented for linear elastic structures. Although the semi-analytic method has several advantages, accuracy of the method prevents it from practical application. One of promising remedies is the use of geometric series for the matrix inversion. Though series expansion of order three has been successfully applied to the calculation of the structural sensitivity in the most range of the design perturbation, it is prone to have a slow convergence for large perturbation. To overcome this shortage, Pade approximation is introduced so that it can broaden the trust region of the perturbation without adding expansion terms. Numerical results show that the confident sensitivity can be obtained with tiny expenses of computation effort.

  • Structure-bone noise is an important aspect to consider during the design and development of a vehicle. Reduction of structure-bone noise of the compartment in a vehicle is an important task in automotive engineering. Many methods which analyze transfer path of noise have been used for structure-bone noise. The existing method to measure of frequency response function of transfer path has been tested by removing a source. This Paper presents an experimental analysis about Transfer Path Analysis of the vehicle interior noise according to Excitation or not. To identify these points of difference, experiment were conducted through an experimental test using simulation vehicle.
