  • Shifts of finite type are represented by nonnegative integral square matrics, and conjugacy between two shifts of finite type is determined by strong shift equivalence between the representing nonnegative intergral square matrices. But determining strong shift equivalence is usually a very difficult problem. we develop splittings and amalgamations of nonnegative integral matrices, which are analogues of those of directed graphs, and show that two nonnegative integral square matrices are strong shift equivalent if and only if one is obtained from a higher matrix of the other matrix by a series of amalgamations.

  • We consider the set of commuting pairs of matrices and their preservers over binary Boolean algebra, chain semiring and general Boolean algebra. We characterize those linear operators that preserve the set of commuting pairs of matrices over a general Boolean algebra and a chain semiring.

  • In this paper, we determine the structure of ${\kappa}-potent$ elements and regular elements of the semigroup ${\Omega}_n$of doubly stochastic matrices of order n. In connection with this, we find the structure of the matrices X satisfying the equation AXA = A. From these, we determine a condition of a doubly stochastic matrix A whose Moore-Penrose generalized is also a doubly stochastic matrix.

  • For two distinct rank-1 matrices A and B, a rank-1 matrix C is called a separating matrix of A and B if the rank of A + C is 2 but the rank of B + C is 1 or vice versa. In this case, rank-1 matrices A and B are said to be separable. We show that every pair of distinct Boolean rank-l matrices are separable.

  • Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the regularity of block triangular fuzzy matrices. This leads to characterization of idem-potency of a class of triangular Toeplitz matrices. As an application, the existence of group inverse of a block triangular fuzzy matrix is discussed. Equivalent conditions for a regular block triangular fuzzy matrix to be expressed as a sum of regular block fuzzy matrices is derived. Further, fuzzy relational equations consistency is studied.

  • There exist several forms of transfer function descriptions for multivariable LTI systems. We treat transfer function matrix with characteristic polynomial as its common denominator named Characteristic Transfer-function Matrices (CTM). First, we clarify necessary and sufficient conditions of CTM, then, we show some related lemmas. These interpretations not only offer deeper explanations but they also provide ways for calculations of all possible transfer matrices, system zeros, and inverse polynomial matrices.

  • For a rank-1 matrix A, there is a factorization as $A=ab^t$, the product of two vectors a and b. We characterize the linear operators that preserve rank and some equivalent condition of rank-1 matrices over a chain semiring. We also obtain a linear operator T preserves the rank of rank-1 matrices if and only if it is a form (P, Q, B)-operator with appropriate permutation matrices P and Q, and a matrix B with all nonzero entries.

  • In this paper, a new method is proposed for tracking the direction-of-arrival (DOA) of the wideband moving source incident on uniform linear array sensors. DOA is estimated by focusing transformation matrices. To update focusing matrices along with new data snap shots, we use the FAST (Fast Approximate Subspace Tracking) method. Present focusing matrices are constructed by previous signal and its orthogonal basis vectors as well as present signal and its orthogonal basis vectors, which are the left and right singular vectors of the inner product of two approximated matrices. Simulation results are shown to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.

  • We propose a criterion for testing homogeneity of diagonal covariance matrices of K multivariate normal populations. It is based on a factorization of usual likelihood ratio intended to propose and develop a criterion that makes use of properties of structures of the diagonal convariance matrices. The criterion then leads to a simple test as well as to an accurate asymptotic distribution of the test statistic via general result by Box (1949).

  • In this article, the matrix representation of commutative elliptic octonions and their properties are described. Firstly, definitions and theorems are given for the commutative elliptic octonion matrices using the elliptic quaternion matrices. Then the adjoint matrix, eigenvalue and eigenvector of the commutative elliptic octonions are investigated. Finally, α = -1 for the Gershgorin Theorem is proved using eigenvalue and eigenvector of the commutative elliptic octonion matrix.
