Masan Port, which is a main entrance to Korea, has undergone the tough time these days. Many problems are mainly due to the deterioration of harbor facilities, the shortage of waterfront area and the decrease of the trading volumes. Especially the trading volumes are seriously affected by the Busan New Port, which was not only very close to the Masan Port but constructed in a large scale. For the Masan Port to develop continuously, therefore, it is vital to modernize harbor facilities, redevelop the old harbor, expand its waterfront, construct green port and develop harbor for sightseeing. At the same time, Masan port should be ready to develop a higher value added port. To vitalize Masan port's economy, we have to push forward a differentiation strategy that makes Masan port specialized harbor for distributing goods like hard and heavy cargo.

Masan port is a representative port of Kyungnam region, and proceeds to work port development for the future. However, Analytical research related to current competitiveness and strategies for the future of Masan port have been little studied since then. Thus, the aim of this paper is to analyze the current competitiveness level of Masan port. To achieve this abjective, evaluation model based on empirical data was established. And then FHP-based index model that calculate competitiveness level of port was adopted. To analysis competitiveness of Masan port, Data from shippers calling at Masan port were collected. The result of data analysis showed that current competitiveness level of Masan port was 63.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate CFZ(custom free zone) and FTZ(free trade zone) in Korean FTZ System and develop Masan Port in Korea Local Port. The main point of this discussion is to approach the efficient method ill developing Masan Port through comparison CFZ and FTZ. For this purpose, this paper is searched the present situation of logistics in Korea and Northeast Asia, also discussed the concept of FTZ in international status. Then CFZ accepted by Korean government started from the concept of FTZ and is the logistic-centered FTZ in the middle of three model, production-centerde model, production-logistic combination, and logistic-centered FTZ. But CFZ in centering logistic excepted the fundamental manufacture in Korean production. and is almost the same about other various sides, i. e. law and enforcement ordinance. etc This problem is decreasing the efficiency in Korean commercial system. Thus this paper indicate the view point and rightness of region economic through study of FTZ and CFZ in Masan Port. This paper says that FTZ is better then CFZ in Masan Port with comparing superior position about economic development direction, industrial structure, Foreign investment attraction, business fluctuation, national-local renovation. Therefore this paper concludes that the development of Masan Port needs the effort as follow : first, Masan Port must apply in enlarging FTA into Free Tree Area. Second, the government must develop the high-density and medium-small scale in Masan Port. Third, the local government must promote the amount of demand in Masan Port logistic. Forth, the government must actively propel great-sphere development in present Masan Port.

The world Economy has rearranged into three economic block. Especially, the nation's economy in Northeast area are an engine of world economic development. Among these nations in Northeast area china has done a main role of the development of world economy. Owing to raising of the China economy, the Export-Import of container load has rapidly increased in this area. So it is very important of the nation to manage a port. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to analysis a port of Masan and to search the way of development. To accomplish this purpose, I will analyze a logistics circumstance in northeast area and a port of Pusan and Jinhae. In conclusion, government and local government must enlarge the investment to develope the port of Masan. Local government should do its best effort to solve the problem of port of Masan. And all citizen should recognize that a development of the port of Masan will be the engine of the raising of Masan.

This study is a study for the utilization of marine information and communication technology of Masan port in order to play a pivotal role in the economy of Masan port as a base port for entering the southern coast area. It aims to examine the utilization of marine information technology to be pursued in the mid- to long-term based on the current status of Masan port and the ICT being applied.

Recently, the development construction of New Masan Container Terminal (1-1 Phase) with private investment would be set for opening in the 2011 year in Masan Port, Korea However, as new container terminals of the Pusan New Port and 'the New Ulsan Container Terminal neighboring Masan Port will be also planned to open around the time, the strategy establishment for Masan Port is required for a keen competition among these ports. To provide it with strategic points, we applied SP model used for customers' behavior method to analyze customer's preference changes with the shifts of the ports' conditions for customers.

Today the role of Vessel Traffic Service(VTS) is increasing due to the function to preserve the safety of marine traffic and harbour, improve the efficiency of harbour, protect the marine environment. However, Vessel Traffic Service(VTS) lacks the international and domestic legal basis. For this reason it is hard to fulfill the positive and systemic operation of Vessel Traffic Service(VTS). It is essential to establish a domestic legal basis upon which to perform function and role of Vessel Traffic Service(VTS) fully. The purpose of this study is to propose the directing point for the adequate regulation of vessels to participate in Vessel Traffic Service(VTS) by doing a comparative analysis between domestic regulations and other countries's regulations.

This study aims at examining the background and development process of Masan city after Koryo Dynasty, making a reconstructive map of Original Masan using the first registration maps made in 1912 and analyzing the urban structure of the Original Masan area. The origin of Masan city went back to Koryo dynasty. Around 1040 Koryo government placed an official shipping facility in Masan to transport the taxed grain to the capital city. After that Masan became an important port covering the southern part of KyungSang-Do. And the urbanization of the Original Masan began to bud after a shipping facility was again established by the Chosun Dynasty in 1760 and strengthened in the 19th century after the social standing system was broken and many peasants moved to cities as daily workers. In 1899 Masan was forced to be opened to foreign powers and they placed an international settlement distanced from the area(Original Masan). After this many Japanese advanced to the international settlement and further to the area. The advancement of Japanese brought a critical change in the urban structure of the area. Land was owned by Japanese and many modern sysytems were introduced such as modern buildings, new roads, railroad and modern factories. According to the reconstructive map of the area, 80.5% of land lots are less than $200m^2$ showing the size of each land lot is comparatively small. And Japanese occupied 31.5% of the land in the area. Their land was located on the stratigic points near the port and the center of commerce. The ratio of the road area to the whole land was around 14%, not so low for urban areas in that time. The reconstructive map reveals the exact coastline of the year 1912 erased now due to filling the sea and extending the land, Present Masan city has been developed having the Original Masan as its nucleus. The area has been always the center of urban activities for Masan city. Making an exact reconstructive map for the area and analyzing the urban structure of the area in 1912 is a very important work to understand Masan city wholy.
