  • The trade war between the United States and China has been going on for many years, and sanctions against Chinese telecommunications companies in the United States are increasingly tightening. Despite these restrictions, ZTE (Zhongxing), China's leading communication equipment company, is rather expanding its market share in the global 5th generation mobile communication (5G) market. ZTE's growth and competitiveness are based on its unique corporate culture. ZTE places great importance on R&D, has a corporate culture of humility and moderation based on traditional Chinese culture. Besides, it has the placement and use of human resources in the right place. While ZTE strives to implement people-centered management, it makes good use of internal competition. Despite ZTE's global market share and corporate competitiveness, virtually nothing has been studied in Korea. The results of this study are intended to be helpful in enhancing the competitiveness of Korea's ICT industry and companies that want to expand to the world while fostering 5G.

Analyzing location competitiveness for international logistics center in Northeast Asia, this paper aims to extract implications for enhancing locational competitiveness. Employing the relative importance among location selection factors extracted from AHP analysis in prior study, we evaluated the major five port-cities in Northeast Asia including Busan, Gwangyang, Shanghai, Qingdao and Tokyo. In the evaluations, Shanghai (3.926) ranked as the first, followed by Busan (3.859), Qingdao (3.555), Tokyo (3.013) and Gwangyang (2.915). Furthermore, the causal relationships between determinants for location choice decision (logistics factor, cost factor, market factor, service factor and environmental factor) and dependent variables (competitiveness of international logistics center, potentiality to growth, present intention to move into and future plan to move into) were analyzed to provide implications. Results provide useful insights for further improvements, and helps strategic agenda for future development of port-cities.

  • This study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the changing vegetable sector of Chinese agriculture and to analyse the competitiveness of Chinese vegetable production. China now produces more than 60% of the world's vegetable supply and that 150 million people are engaged in vegetable production, processing and marketing since the reform of vegetable industry structure started in the late 1980s. As a labour abundant industry, China also features more comparative advantages in the vegetable trade. Although China's vegetable exports still accounts for only 1% of total production, the 5 million tons of export in 2003 makes China one of the largest vegetable players in the international markets. When estimating competitiveness of China's vegetable industry, China's producers' prices for vegetables are founded to be only from 10%~40% of what they are in Korea, while most of China's vegetables have also strong competitiveness in quality. As China joined the WTO in 2001 and expects to increase market share in vegetable trade, the development strategy for Korea's vegetable industry are suggested as follows; 1) focusing on the technology for the growth of vegetable productivity, 2) developing the higher value added vegetable industry through processing, 3) expanding the exported area and leading vegetable varieties.

  • The purpose of this study is to secure reasonable transportation infrastructure stock for enhancing national competitiveness in Korea. National competitiveness may be defined as a country's overall capacity to create the most effective social structure, institutions and policies that allow her company within the national boundary to be more competitive in the world market. If Korea's transportation infrastructure stock is not sufficient and a connection among transportation facilities is not efficient, we should pay the social and economic cost. As a result, we worry that national competitiveness may drop. Some methods to maintain or to increase the national investment for transportation infrastructure that are suggested from this study are as follows: Firstly, we need to operate the Spcial Account for Traffic Facilities. Secondly, the investment should be focused on the facilities and districts in needs. Thirdly, PFI (private finance initiative) policy should be aimed at investing for the highly economic-valued projects.

And trade with Korea was brisk in the order of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The analysis of the trade structure of the 10 ASEAN member states, confirmed that imports were also being made while exporting items in the high- and medium-level technology industry groups. The possibility of entering the Korean market was quite high, given that Korea imported high- and medium- and high-tech industrial forces while exporting low-tech industrial forces.

Based on 161 environmental goods list proposed by OECD, this paper examined the Trade Returns of worldwide environmental goods during the past 10 years from 2002 to 2011. The analysis showed that Korean environmental goods' International Market Share(IMS) in the world was 3.2%; trade specialization index(TSI) -0.128; Revealed Comparative Advantage(RCA) 1.002 in 2011. And Korea Export Similarity Index(ESI) to Japan was the highest rank in the world market. According to the results of investigation, it is clear that International Competitiveness of the Korean Environmental Industry was received a relatively poor evaluation compared with Korean trade scale. To strengthen the competitiveness, it is required that Korean government should make an effort to boost domestic environmental industry and promote systematically Trade Liberalization Negotiation including the enforcement of transient period for Korean environmental goods in the next DDA Negotiation.
