Purpose: The purpose of this study were to analysis of marginal adaptation of metal cores fabricated by selective laser sintering. Methods: Main model was prepared and ten stone models were fabricated. Ten single metal cores were fabricated by selective laser sintering(SLS group) and another ten single metal cores using lost wax technique and casting method were manufactured(CAST group). The marginal adaptation of metal cores were analysis using by the silicone replica technique. Silicone replicas were sectioned two times. The marginal adaptations were measured using by digital microscope. Statistical analyses was performed with independent t-test(${\bullet}{\cdot}=0.05$). Results: Means of marginal adaptations were 90.3 ${\ss}{\uparrow}$ for SLS group and 65.1 ${\ss}{\uparrow}$ for CAST group. Two groups were statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Marginal adaptation of metal cores fabricated by selective laser sintering were ranged within the clinical recommendation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare two-dimensional fitness of the monolithic zirconia prosthesis by using different type of scanner. Methods: No. 26 abutment tooth of FDI system was selected for the study. Using the extraoral scanner and intraoral scanner, the abutment tooth was scanned 10 times and the scanned files were saved as STL files. CAD/CAM system was used to produce the monolithic zirconia prosthesis. marginal and internal gap of the monolithic zirconia prosthesis were measured by digital microscope(x160) and applied silicone replica technique was applied. t-test, a statistical software, was used to perform data analysis. Results: Marginal gap $mean{\pm}SD$ of the monolithic zirconia prosthesis was $33{\pm}7.5{\mu}m$ with extra oral scanner and $34.7{\pm}11.1{\mu}m$ with intraoral scanner. axial gap mean was $40.5{\pm}3.5{\mu}m$ with extra oral scanner and $44.6{\pm}11.6{\mu}m$ with intraoral scanner. occlusal gap mean was $110.1{\pm}25.4{\mu}m$ with extra oral scanner and $64{\pm}9.7{\mu}m$ with intraoral scanner. Conclusion: In this study, fabricating zirconia prosthesis with different type of scanner was clinically applicable.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fitnesses on the effect of span length of bridge and the marginal gaps within the clinically allowed range. The samples were fabricated with zirconia core using CAD/CAM system. The test groups were divided by four groups, single crown, 2-units bridge, 3-units bridge and 4-units bridge and 10 zirconia cores per each group. The results of mean marginal gaps were $42.95{\pm}6.93{\mu}m$ in the single crown, $43.53{\pm}5.27{\mu}m$ in 2-unit, $53.43{\pm}13.38{\mu}m$ in 3-unit, and $50.85{\pm}8.25{\mu}m$ in 4-unit on each. The marginal gap of mesial and distal surfaces were statistically significant differences between single, 2-unit group and 3-unit, 4-unit group (p<.05) and this results was effected by the span length. The buccal and lingual surfaces were no statistically significant differences within all groups(p>.05). From this results the span length of the zirconia core may have influence on marginal fitness and the marginal gaps were within the clinically allowed range.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of investing conditions on the marginal discrepancy of conical telescope outer crown with Co-Cr-Ti alloy(Dentitan) and to compare the marginal discrepancy and the retention force of outer crowns using different pattern materials(plastic foil, casting wax, pattern resin). To evaluate the effects of investing conditions on the marginal discrepancy, patterns with plastic foil were invested under three different liquid/powder ratio conditions using phosphate bonded investment(Univest-nonprecious): standard, 10% decreased and 10% increased. At each liquid/powder ratio condition, metal ring was lined with single or double layers of ceramic ring liner. The marginal discrepancy of outer crown at different investing conditions was measured by ${\times}100$ compact measuring microscope(STM5, Olympus, Japan). For measurement of the marginal discrepancy and the retention force of outer crown using different pattern materials, the investing condition of 10% decreased liquid/powder ratio and double layers of ring liner was selected because this investing condition resulted in the best fit of outer crown. Marginal discrepancy was measured in the same way above and retention force on universal testing machine. Under the conditions of this study, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. The thickness of ring liner had more influence on the marginal discrepancy of outer crown than the liquid/powder ratio, and the acceptable marginal fitness could not be expected at the investing condition directed by investment manufacturer 2. There were no differences in the marginal discrepancy of outer crown among three different pattern materials(P>0.05). 3. Casting wax showed the greatest retention force(1640g) of outer crown, followed by pattern resin(1110g), plastic foil(820g). However, there was no significant difference between plastic foil and pattern resin(P>0.05). 4. Plastic foil showed the least variation in marginal discrepancy and retention force.
Purpose: This study was aimed to compare the margin and internal fitness of 3-unit zirconia bridge cores fabricated by several CAD/CAM systems using replica technique. Materials and methods: Three unit-bridge models in which upper canine and upper second premolar were used as abutments and upper first premolar was missed, were fabricated. Fourty models were classified into 4 groups (Cerasys$^{(R)}$ (Group C), Dentaim$^{(R)}$ (Group D), KaVo Everest$^{(R)}$ (Group K), $Lava^{TM}$ (Group L)), and zirconia cores were fabricated by each company. Sixteen points were measured on each abutment by replica technique. Statistical analysis was accomplished with two way ANOVA and Dunnett T3 (${\alpha}$=.05). Results: In most systems, there was a larger gap on inter margin than outer margin. In the Group K, overall fitness was excellent, but the incisal gap was very large. In the Group C, marginal gap was significantly larger than Group K, but overall internal gap was uniform (P<.05). The axial gap was under $100\;{\mu}m$ in all system. The difference between internal and external gap was small on Group L and C. However, internal gap was significantly larger than external gap in Group D (P<.05). The fitness of canine was better than second premolar among abutments (P<.05). Conclusion: The marginal and internal gap was within the clinically allowed range in all of the three systems. There was a larger gap on second premolar than canine on internal and marginal surface. In most systems, there was a larger gap on occlusal surface than axial surface.
Objectives In regard to the social competition hypothesis, depression is viewed as an involuntary defeat strategy. A previous study has demonstrated that adaptation in microenvironments can result in a wide range of behavioural patterns including defense activation disorders. Using a simulation model with evolutionary ecological agents, we explore how the fitness of various defence activation traits has changed over time in different environments with high and low social mobility. Methods The Evolutionary Ecological Model of Defence Activation Disorder, which is based on the Marginal Value Theorem, was used to examine changes in relative fitness for individuals with defensive activation disorders after adjusting for social mobility. Results Our study examined the effects of social mobility on fitness by varying the d-values, a measure of depression in the model. With a decline in social mobility, the level of fitness of individuals with high levels of defense activation decreased. We gained insight into the evolutionary influence of varying levels of social mobility on individuals' degrees of depression. In the context of a highly stratified society, the results support a mismatch hypothesis which states that high levels of defence are detrimental. Conclusions Despite the fact that niche specialization in habitats composed of multiple microenvironments can result in diverse levels of defensive activation being evolutionary strategies for stability, decreased social mobility may lead to a decrease in fitness of individuals with highly activated defence modules. There may be a reason behind the epidemic of depression in modern society.
This study was conducted to compare the marginal and internal fit of all ceramic crown using the replica technique and the triple-scan protocol. Materials and methods: Twenty zirconia ceramic crowns were fabricated using titanium abutment model. All crowns were divided into two groups of 10 each, depending on the replica technique and the triple-scan protocol. The internal and marginal fit of 10 zirconia ceramic crowns were measured at 17 points for each specimen using the replica technique. The other 10 ceramic crowns were measured using the triple-scan protocol. Statistical analysis was performed by t-test (${\alpha}=.05$). Results: The mean and standard deviation of marginal and internal fit were significantly different between the replica technique ($49.86{\pm}29.69{\mu}m$) and triple-scan protocol ($75.35{\pm}64.73{\mu}m$, P<.001). The mean and standard deviation of internal fit except marginal fit were $58.38{\pm}31.77{\mu}m$ and $64.00{\pm}46.43{\mu}m$, respectively (P>.343). Conclusion: There was a statistically significant difference in the marginal fit measured by the two methods. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the internal fit between the two methods.
The purpose of this study was to compare the retention and fitness of crown treated with various desensitizing agents on natural teeth. Varnish, dentin primer, bonding agent and potassium oxalate treated groups and control group with no treatment were used. The retention test was executed with the Instron test machine(Instron Co.,U.S.A.) on 24 hours after cementation with zinc phosphate cement. After retention test, the teeth and crowns were washed and recemented. The cemented crowns were embedded in clear resin and sectioned with a diamond saw. The occlusal and marginal fitnesses, were measured indirectly with a stereomicroscopic photographs. The result of this study were obtained as follows : 1. The retention of control group was higher than any other desensitizing agent treated group. 2. The differences of retention among varnish, dentin primer, bonding agent and potassium oxalate treated groups were not statistically significant. 3. There were no statistically significant difference in fitness at occlusal surface and margin among control, varnish, dentin primer, bonding agent and potassium oxalate treated groups. According to these results, desensitizing agents used to protect the pulp from irritation of luting agents may adversely affect the retention of castings. Therefore, desensitizing agents should be used in limited areas carefully.
Purpose: We investigated the marginal fit between abutment and metal copings according to impression technique, wax block types, and metal types. Methods: We selected the traditional impression method of using rubber impression materials and the digital impression method of using oral scanners, three types of wax blocks, and two types of metal, both of which were domestically and commercially available, were selected to produce metal copings, and the marginal fit was determined through the use of silicon replication. Results: The measurements of axial wall fit revealed that the IYV specimens had the best fit, with a mean gap of 24.11±5.95 ㎛, followed by CEV, CHV, CSS, CSV, CES, CHS, and IYS specimens (mean: 33.44±8.41 ㎛). The differences were not statistically significant. The marginal gap measurements showed that the CEV specimen had the smallest gap, 17.25±4.13 ㎛, followed by the CSV, CHV, CSS, CES, CHS, IYV, and IYS specimen (mean: 43.47±15.63 ㎛). The differences were statistically significant. Conclusion: The axial wall fit of the metal coping (VeraBond2V; Aalba Dent, Inc., Fairfield, CA, USA) produced by the lost wax technique with the traditional impression method was excellent. The marginal fit of the metal coping (VeraBond 2V) produced by wax milling with the use of an oral scanner was also excellent. The marginal fit of the metal coping was within the clinically acceptable limits in all groups.
In an effort to facilitate fabrication procedure of all ceramic crowns, a novel preparation method for all ceramic crown using alumina tape was developed. The alumina tape having a uniform thickness was cast by using Doctor blade method. The physical properties of newly introduced alumina tape has biaxial flexure strength of $500\sim600MPa$. The value of toughness is $3.18\sim3,28MPa.m^{1/2}$ which corelates with fracture and the linear shrinkage rate of the alumina tape is 0.44% during core production. The marginal fitness of the alumina tape all-ceramic restoration with $90{!`}$shoulder margin had average marginal discrepancy at $78.3{\S}$ > and average marginal gap at $44.4{\S}$ >. At the marginal preparation of $135{!`}$deep chamfer, the average marginal discrepancy at $82.1{\S}$ > and the average marginal gap at $40.2{\S}$ > had been reported. This fabrication procedure of all ceramic crowns with alumina tapes is easier and less technical sensitive for dental technicians. After restoration with new all ceramic crowns we followed the patients 2 years later, there were no complications as porcelain fractures or periodontal disease. We had good esthetic clinical results with new all ceramic crowns.
