In order to decide the location of appropriate onshore wind farm with higher potential wind energy, several decision processes using Geographic Information System (GIS) including Digital Elevation Map (DEM) were proposed and we also estimated the wind resources through the proposed decision process. Decision process consists with three steps. First step is excluding inappropriate location geographically using DEM data including SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) terrain data, landslide, land-use, roadway, and forest road data. And the second step of decision process is consideration of the difficulty caused by the natural environmental problem. This step is carried out using ECVAM (Environmental Conservation Value Assessment Map) data. And final step is determination of the most suitable location through the Moving Suitability Identification Method (MSIM) based on the moving potentially estimated wind resources area. Proposed decision process was applied over the Korean Peninsula. Wind resource potential estimated by the first and the second step is cases shows 35.09 GW and 7.17 GW, respectively, and the total evaluated energy from the all proposed step were 0.43 GW and 1.87 GW for the 3 km and 1.5 km geographical grid size, respectively.
In computer graphics, shadows play a very important role as a hint of inter-object distance as well as themselves in terms of realism. To represent shadows, some traditional methods such as shadow mapping and shadow volume have been frequently used for the purpose. However, the rendering results are not natural since they assume the point light. On the contrary, an area light can render soft-shadows, but its computation is too burdensome due to integral over the whole light source surface. Many alternatives have been introduced, back-projection of occluder onto the light source to get visibility of light or filtering of shadow boundary by calculating size of penumbra. But they also have problems of light bleeding or ringing effects because of low order approximation, or low performance. In this paper, we describe a method to improve those problems using shadow atlas.

The accuracy of digital elevation models (DEMs) is crucial for properly estimating flood inundation area. DEM pixel size is especially important when generating flood inundation maps of small streams with a channel width of less than 50 m. In Korea, DEMs with large spatial resolutions of 30 m have been widely applied to generate flood inundation maps, even for small streams. Additionally, when making river master plans, field observations of stream cross-sections, as well as reference points in the middle of the river, have not previously been used to enhance the DEM. In this study, it was graphically demonstrated that high-resolution DEMs can increase the accuracy of flood inundation mapping, especially for small streams. Also, a methodology was proposed to modify the existing low-resolution DEMs by adding additional survey reference points, including river cross-sections, and interpolating them into a high spatial resolution DEM using the inverse distance weighting method. For verification purposes, the modified DEM was applied to Han stream on Jeju Island. The modified DEM showed much better accuracy when describing morphological features near the stream. Moreover, the flood inundation maps were formulated with the original 30 m pixel DEM and the modified 0.1 m pixel DEM using HEC-RAS modeling of the actual flood event of Typhoon Nari, and then compared with the flood history map of Nari. The results clearly indicated that the modified DEM generated a similar inundation area, but a very poor estimate of inundation area was derived from the original low-resolution DEM.
Finding the densest subgraphs from social networks, such that people in the subgraph are in a particular community or have common interests, has been a recurring problem in numerous studies undertaken. However, these algorithms focused only on finding the single densest subgraph. We suggest a heuristic algorithm of the bottom-up type, which finds the densest subgraph by increasing its size from a given starting node, with the repeated addition of adjacent nodes with the maximum degree. Furthermore, since this approach matches well with parallel processing, we further implement a parallel algorithm on the MapReduce framework. In experiments using various graph data, we confirmed that the proposed algorithm finds the densest subgraphs in fewer steps, as compared to other related studies. It also scales efficiently for many given starting nodes.

MR compatible coaxial-slot antenna for microwave hyperthermia was developed while its structure and size of each part were determined by computer simulation using finite element method(FEM). Its local heating performance was evaluated using tissue-mimic phantom and swine muscles. 2% agarose gel mixed with 6mM/$\ell$$MnCl_2$ as a biological tissue-mimic phantom was heated by the proposed antenna driven by a 2.45GHz microwave generator. The temperature changes of the phantom were monitored using multi-channel digital thermometer at the distance of 0mm, 5mm, 10mm and 20mm from the tip center of the antenna. Also muscle tissue of swine was heated for 2 and 5minutes with 50W and 30W of microwave generator powers, respectively, to evaluate the local heating performance of the antenna. MRI compatibility was also verified by acquiring MR images and MR temperature map. MR signals were acquired from the agarose gel phantom using $T2^*$ GRE sequence with 1.5T clinical MRI scanner(Signa Echospeed, GE, Milwaukee, WI, U.S.A.) at Pusan Paik Hospital and were transferred to PC in order to reconstruct MR images and temperature map using proton resonance frequency(PRF) method and laboratory-developed phase unwrapping algorithm. Authors found that it has no severe distortion due to the antenna inserted into the phantom. Finally, we can conclude that the suggested coaxial-slot antenna has an excellent local heating performance for both of tissue-mimic phantom and swine muscle, and it is compatible to 1.5T MRI scanner.
Rhipe that integrates R and Hadoop environment, made it possible to process and analyze massive amounts of data using a distributed processing environment. In this paper, we implemented multiple regression analysis using Rhipe with various data sizes of actual data and simulated data. Experimental results for comparing the computing speeds of pseudo-distributed and fully-distributed modes for configuring Hadoop cluster, showed fully-distributed mode was more fast than pseudo-distributed mode and computing speeds of fully-distributed mode were faster as the number of data nodes increases. We also compared the performance of our Rhipe with stats and biglm packages available on bigmemory. The results showed that our Rhipe was more fast than other packages owing to paralleling processing with increasing the number of map tasks as the size of data increases.

Big data have been presenting us with exciting opportunities and challenges in economic development. For instance, in the agriculture sector, mixing up of various agricultural data (e.g., weather data, soil data, etc.), and subsequently analyzing these data deliver valuable and helpful information to farmers and agribusinesses. However, massive data in agriculture are generated in every minute through multiple kinds of devices and services such as sensors and agricultural web markets. It leads to the challenges of big data problem including data collection, data storage, and data analysis. Although some systems have been proposed to address this problem, they are still restricted either in the type of data, the type of storage, or the size of data they can handle. In this paper, we propose a novel design of a platform for collecting and analyzing agricultural big data. The proposed platform supports (1) multiple methods of collecting data from various data sources using Flume and MapReduce; (2) multiple choices of data storage including HDFS, HBase, and Hive; and (3) big data analysis modules with Spark and Hadoop.
Streptococcus sp. TR-1 which has inducible resistance to MLS antibiotics was isolated from soil samples in Korea. Streptococcus sp. TR-1 was cultured in Lysis broth, then a plasmid was isolated by modified Elliker method. Bacillus subtilis UOTO277 was transformed with that plasmid. This result showed that the plasmid has the gene relating with inducible resistance to MLS antibiotics. It was named pMB4 and its size was determined about 2.4 Kb by results of digestion with various restriction enzymes. Restriction endonuclease cleavage site map of pMB4 plasmid was made by double digestion of the plasmid. pMB4 plasmid has different restriction endonuclease site map from the other plasmids that have been discovered in Streptococcus sp. so far. And it could be identified that pMB4 plasmid does not have homology with ermK of Bacillus licheniformis EMR but has homology with ermC of Staphylococcus aureus from the results of Southern hybridization.
The Ministry of Construction and local governments have spent lots of money to construct 1: 1,000 scale digital topographic map. However the digital map is used only in facility management departments and the department in charge of GIS. In local governments, almost 70 ∼ 80 % of data are related with maps, which represents GIS technique and the digital maps could be used 70 ∼ 80 % of local government tasks. In this circumstances, it is necessary to spread out GIS usage through GIS education. However, there are lots of limits in GIS education such as number of people which can take classes at one time, physical location and size of classroom, and curriculums etc. To overcome these limits, cyber GIS education is becoming more important. This study presents how the cyber GIS education should be composed for the local government officers. For this purpose, this study accomplished followings ; grasp current GIS education status, analyze the needs of GIS education for local government officers, propose cyber GIS courses and curriculums according to the level of officers.
The street trees in the urban areas provide an comfortable environment to the pedestrians and drivers and play important roles to absorb the carbons. Therefore, it is necessary to acquire and manage efficiently the location, height, and crown width of street trees. This study suggests a methodology to provide quantitative information of the street trees in urban areas including the quantity, location, height, and crown width of the trees. Therefore, it is more appropriate to add functionality of changing size of the crown width of the trees in the method. In addition, the positions of the street trees were selected using the fact that street trees are generally planted along the road in a straight line. An experiment on extracting street trees was conducted in parts of Osan-si, Gyeonggi-do and the suitability of the suggested methodology was evaluated by comparing the results to a 1/1,000 digital map. Through the experimental results, the minimum, maximum, and the root mean square errors of the position of street trees were 0.5m, 1.9m, and approximately ${\pm}0.4m$, respectively.
