  • The Library and Information Policy Committee announced a national comprehensive plan for all libraries in August, 2008. The plan includes the re-establishment of a subject-based national library system as one of the major policy challenges. Based on the preceding study (an analysis on systematization and the gaps in subject-based national libraries in major countries), this paper proposed three models: a centralized model focused on the NLK, a horizontally-linked model, and a long-term strategic model for subject-based national library systematization in Korea.

This research set the 270 prospective graduates its study subjects based on convenience sampling. It was found that the number of students who want to choose their further major-related careers as medical records technician was greatest among the research subjects, of whom 62.4% were satisfied with their major subject while there existed a little difference in major satisfaction by further career. In addition, the students who want to choose the career of medical records filer showed higher satisfaction with their major subject than those who want to choose other-major-related careers. In general characteristics among the influential factors of major satisfaction in major-related career choices of a students of health administration science department, the 2nd year classes' major satisfaction was found to be 4.13 times as high as the 3rd year classes while the major satisfaction of the group choosing their major subject spontaneously was found to be 8.04 times as significantly high as the group choosing their major subject involuntarily. As a result of the analysis of the influence on major satisfaction among the sub-province of major satisfaction, it was found that the group having high consciousness satisfaction was 3.93 times as significantly high as the group having low consciousness satisfaction. A logistic analysis of the influence of major satisfaction on further career choices, the major satisfaction of those wishing to choose their major-related career as a medical records technician was 2.06 times as significantly high as those who didn't choose a medical records filer as their career choice while the major satisfaction of the group spontaneously choosing the career of a medical records technician was 4.51 times as significantly high as that of the group involuntarily choosing the career of a medical records technician. There should be a plan for enhancing major satisfaction by each major-related career in consideration of the characteristics of health administration science department having diverse career choices.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of ego-resiliency and self-efficacy on paramedic students in J province. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 465 paramedic students from the J area recruited from September 25 to October 10, 2017. The questionnaire included general characteristics, ego-resiliency, self-efficacy, and satisfaction with their choice of the major subject. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and a multiple regression analysis. Results: As ego-resiliency and self-efficacy increased, satisfaction with their majoring subject also increased. Senior students had higher satisfaction than freshmen in relation to general characteristics. Students having 'interest in their major' owing to personal motivation of choice of major, had higher satisfaction than those having 'suggestion from other'. It is necessary to find a way to increase satisfaction of major and to inspire ego-resiliency and self-efficacy. Conclusion: Future studies should investigate ways to increase major satisfaction toward paramedics and to enhance their ego-resiliency and self-efficacy.

  • The name of the Courses of Fishing Technology and of Navigation, as the basic courses in the fisheries high schools and the merchant marine high schools, are unchanged from a viewpoint of keeping a time- honored tradition. According to transition of the industrial structure, the authors tried to examine closely the character, to realize the goal of education, to rationalize the substantial system of the major subjects of each course, and made some concrete proposals of teaching guidance for each subject. The existing 5 compulsory major subjects are reduced to 2, and the subjects of "Sea Training" and of "Fisheries Law" an, disused, and the subject of "Introduction to Ship" and "Introduction to Marine Engine" and "Introduction to Marine Communication" are merged into the "Introduction to Ship". As mentioned above, the level of subject matter become more simplified as well as the students' learning burden is lightened by reduction of the number of major subjects. In conclusion, guiding teachers of major subjects must previously establish the substantial teaching method and carry out the teaching activities taking into consideration of the students' intellectual level and the local requirement on the ground of thorough understanding the character. the goal and the substantial system of each revised subject.

  • To understand and analyze the variety of the subject access methods of OPACs, telephone interviews were administered to the computerized libraries in Seoul. Data was collected during 4 days in Feb. 1997, and 155 libraries were responded. It was found that 105 libraries are operating OPACs. Among the 105 libraries, almost of all provide classification number and title keyword access, however, only half of them provide subject name access. 18 libraries allow linking/browsing facility between classification number and subject name/keyword. The language of the subject name to oriental books is mainly Korean and that to the Western books is mainly English. LCSH is the major authority list used. 36 libraries, 2/3 of them are special libraries, subject name is assigned by librarian without control. Based on the results, problems and suggestions to enhance subject access capability are presented.

  • Indexes, especially subject indexes, are major tools for information retrieval. To enhance the retrieval effectiveness of subject indexes, the semantic and syntactic relationships of indexing languages are very important elements. This paper examines the afore-mentioned relationships, based on purely the syntax and semantics of Korean language. The outlines of this study are as follows: 1. The characteristics and usages of controlled vocabularies, particularly subject headings lists and thesaury, are reviewed. 2. The semantic relationships, such as equivalence, hierarchical and associative relationships, are defined, and their categories are investigated in detail. Accordingly, the usages of 'See' and 'See also' references are suggested circumstantially. 3. The syntactic relationships are also examined. Particularly, for the syntactic relationships of multiword indexing terms, two kinds of subject entry formats are compared. Since it is more rational for subject headings organized by the principle of context-dependency, the two-fine entry format is recommended for subject indexes. 4. Computerized production techniques of 'See' and 'See also' reference for the semantic relationships of indexing terms are presented. 5. Computerized production techniques of subject indexes representing the syntactic relationships of indexing terms are also presented.
