  • Objectives: This literature review seeks to identify the current status of the liberal arts education of dental hygiene majors offered by universities in Korea and the U.S. and provide a comparative analysis of the data on liberal arts education in both countries. Methods: From April 3, 2017 to May 1, 2017, research data on curriculum topics were collected from 60 selected universities. The data were collected from university websites, which also provided the universities' emails and dental hygiene major descriptions. We calculated the descriptive statistics of the variables and performed independent t-tests on the data. Results: In all the domains of the NCS and K-CESA, the dental hygiene major currently offers courses on language and communication and general education, focusing on self-management and development. Few universities offer subjects from other disciplines. Conclusions: Pro-actively exploring strategies is a prerequisite to the systematic operation of standardized dental hygiene education. It is imperative to conduct research consistently on relevant topics, such as teaching methods, general education standards, and connectivity between major subjects and the goals and effects of exposure to a general education.

  • This study aim to evaluate dietary quality and nutritional status according to the consumption of health functional food using Nutrition Quotient for Korean elderly (NQ-E) for 288 elderly people attending senior welfare centers in Gyeonggi-do. The questionnaire consisted of items about general information, health functional food, and Nutrition Quotient for Korean elderly (NQ-E). Chi-squared test, Fisher's exact tests, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) were performed using the SAS program ver. 9.4. Among the male and female subjects, the female subjects consumed more health functional food. The results of the dietary quality and nutritional status difference according to the intake of health functional food showed significant differences only in the areas of variety and abstinence among nutrition quotient factors for men, while no significant differences were observed in any of the nutrition quotient factors for women. In conclusion, focused-nutrition education program and useful guideline is needed for promoting adequate consumption of health functional foods in elderly.

  • There is an increasing number of competency-based major courses organized and operated to develop various competencies. Here, competencies include key competencies/major competencies in the evaluation of basic competency diagnosis in universities, Program Outcomes of engineering education certification, and NCS competency units. The Ministry of Education's evaluation of basic university competency requires all major courses to be organized and operated to improve the major competency of the department, and major courses in the department that operates engineering education certification should be linked to Program Outcomes. Various types of competency-based major courses should be educated to improve related competencies, and educational performance should be measured by selecting a competency evaluation method that allows students to check the level of achievement in consideration of both the process and results of performance. Therefore, this paper examines the types of competency evaluation used to measure educational performance in major subjects related to competency, proposes an evaluation method that synthesizes and measures various types of competencies at the subject level, and presents examples of applying them to major subjects.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of teachers attended at the first environmental education program for certificate of the second-major regarding environmental education and to provide reference materials for development of environmental education program and environmental textbooks. A survey methodology was used in the study. A survey, having 13 items, was developed by the researchers. The subjects consisted of 80 teachers. Teachers revealed their opinions about six categories of the survey including environmental subjects, environmental problems, middle school environmental textbook, their knowledge concerning environment, the time taught in school about environment, and teachers education. Results from teachers' data suggested directions for improvement of environmental education program and environmental textbooks.

  • To cultivate talented people with creative and convergent thinking skills to live in the era of the 4th industrial revolution, the national curriculum of Korea is gradually emphasizing convergence education and software education. To meet the demands of the times, this paper suggests subject-convergent teaching-learning materials for educating core principles of Support Vector Machines, especially targeting elementary learners. Based on analysis of the national curriculum, achievement standards of three subjects are integrated. After printable worksheets for traditional face-to-face classes had developed, they were transformed to online interactive worksheets for non-face-to-face classes. The teaching-learning materials are expected to promote the growth of the learners' academic motivation and knowledge.

  • We developed a remote control system for the 16" reflecting telescope at KNUO (Kongiu National University Observatory). This system is a close loop system. The electronic control part used TCS-196 of the Korea Astronomy Observatory, the mechanical part was developed directly in this research. The pointing accuracy of this system was ${\pm}$50" in the hour angle direction, ${\pm}$40" in the declination direction after mount modeling. The tracking accuracy was about 1"/min. This pilot test result means that this system is suitable for research or education of astronomical fields.

  • Writing education for the students who major in natural sciences and engineering is concentrated on just writing in liberal education. So, this article study the condition and practical solution of writing education with a focus on natural sciences and engineering. This article researches the condition of writing in these majors of Seoul National University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University. As a result, students keenly feel the necessity of writing in this major, but SNU does not offer such courses and few teachers that could teach it. To solve this, we propose that writing teachers of liberal education give feedback on the reports of the capstone research subject 3 or 4 times, which corresponds to 1 credit. This solution would be applicable to most universities in practice, though it is not final method.

  • here are many cases that take a software education as a required course for non-major students in university curriculums. However, non-major students are experiencing various difficulties in the process of learning programming languages, and there is also the opposite opinion in terms of their effectiveness. In this study, we developed a design based software education model (DBSEM) and curriculum to solve these problems and applied it to undergraduate non-undergraduate students for the last 8 years. In the proposed method, we provide a specialized educational tool such as 'block-based programming tool', but developed 'core module' and 'concept learning module' for computational thinking and applied 'prototype design module' and coding strategy based on it. As a result, non-major undergraduates could easily learn block-based scripting tools and acquire core concepts of computational thinking.

  • In line with the social changes due to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, foreign countries are strengthening information education for the future of education. This study analyzed the current status of software (SW) and artificial intelligence (AI) education among different types of information education programs in elementary schools of major foreign countries, and compared them with the education provided in Korea. Compared to major foreign countries, Korea allocated very little time for software education in elementary schools, making it difficult to sufficiently cover all areas of the curriculum achievement standards. In addition, other countries recognized the importance of artificial intelligence, an important technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and were providing artificial intelligence education on the basis of software education at the national level. The Korean government is also planning on providing the education at national level, but it was identified that the information education of elementary schools have many problematic issues. This study emphasized the need to establish an information curriculum for elementary schools as a way to address these issues.

  • The purpose of this study is to find some directions for students' future and Home Economics Education. Juniors and Seniors majoring in Home Economics were selected from 4 Universities in Chungbuk Province and the questionnare survey was used. The results of this study are as follows : 1. Most of respondents were defined the H.E. as the academic subject, and 50.2% of them regarded H.E. as a necessary subject regardless of whether it is their major or not. 2. Though the most general motives of choosing H.E. as their major were recommendation of their parents/neighbors or their school record, they are satisfied with their major. 3. The strongest reason majoring in H.E. was that it is helpful to living, and some students didn't show any interest because H.E. was not considered as a realistic study. 4. Many respondents answered that male students have to learn H.E., and thought that H.E. Education is much influential to one's living. 5. 59.6% of respondents replied that cultural studies related to H.E. are opened at the universities, and 90.6% of them thought subjects related to H.E. should be opened as cultural studies. 6. After graduation, 48.3% of respondents will choose their jobs related to their major, and they prefer to be a teacher, a dietition and a fashion designer in its order. 7. 44.3% of respondents thought that H.E. is neglected and 50.7% of them answered that the research by industrial-educational cooperation is necessary. 8. Many students majoring in H.E. took an optimistic view about H.E.'s future as a study.
