  • Currently, in the course of introducing rolling stocks, RAMS standard and management by system engineering method apply to rolling stock system. Technical elements and results applied in system introduction phase are just used in acquisition stage, and these are not applied to the standard in railway site. Therefore, it is difficult to apply to standardized technology and quality assurance measure. Due to the establishment of the EU, railway operation system is internationalized and the international railway standards are being discussed in various ways. In addition, standardization is expanded from manufacture to operation and maintenance. It is to provide consistent standard in quality, cost calculation of maintenance technology, maintenance technology and quality assurance in case of international railway safety incidents. Therefore, this study is to find technology, quality and cost management model to be used for choosing railway-operation guidance by considering how technologies & quality have changed in system life cycle, compared with estimated standards, based on the technologies & quality-related result in the process of getting new rolling stocks and management guidance for operation & maintenance process.

  • As railroad industry face the new Renaissance era, effective and efficient maintenance methods for rolling stock operation are required with advanced railroad technology. All kinds of railroad systems such as high speed long distance train, metropolitan mass transit and light rail require systematic maintenance technology in order to maintain the safe railroad operation. Simulation models for detailed operations of the sample maintenance center are developed. In this study, standard maintenance procedures, layout, equipments and number of workers of Siheung Metropolitan Railroad Maintenance Rolling Stock Depot are considered. The proposed simulation models are developed using simulation package ARENA. Three simulation analysis using the developed simulation model are done. First, the bottleneck operation is identified. Second, the relationship between maintenance center size, number of workers and cycle time is analyzed. Lastly, the scheduling performances between PERT/CPM and Critical Chain Project Management(CCPM) are compared.

  • The QOS(Quality of Service) recognized by the customer will become the most important thing under the competitive telecommunications market. Korea Telecom is going to develop many system to manage the telecommunication network, to improve the level of QOS, and to increase the revenue. Operation and Maintenance Adiministration System is one of the systems developed to meet those purposes efficiently. This system gathers qualities data from telephone offices or operation centers and analyze the results of QOS improvement activities and evaluate overall QOS. And also system makes it possible to improve the cost/effectiveness of operation and maintenance of telecommunication network. Operation and Maintenance Administration System has four functional modules, i.e., the user interface module, the database management module, the QOS management module, and the database conversion module. The purpose of this study is to develop the QOS management program, one of the four functional modules of the system,using FOCUS 4GL/DBMS. Since Operation and Maintenance Administration System is developed using FOCUS 4GL, every user can handle and maintain the system very easily and reduce system backlogs.

  • This paper describes the development of a robotic maintenance system for use in a maintenance operation of the nozzle dam in a water chamber of a steam generator at the Kori nuclear power plant in Korea. The robotic maintenance system was designed to minimize the personnel exposure to a hazardous radioactive environment. This robotic maintenance system is operated by a teleoperated control which was designed to perform the nozzle dam maintenance tasks in a remote manner without endangering the human workers. Specific maintenance tasks involve the transportation, insertion, and removal of nozzle dams in a water chamber inside a steam generator via a narrow man-way entrance port. The developed robotic maintenance system has two major subsystems: a two degrees of freedom guiding device acting as the main guiding arm and a master-slave manipulator with a kinematic dissimilarity. The mechanical design considerations, control system, and capabilities of the robotic maintenance system are presented. Finally, a graphical representation of the nozzle dam maintenance processes in a simulated work environment are also demonstrated.

  • In this paper, we present the cost measurement metrics for the operation management and service improvement besides the general maintenance. The cost measurement metrics of the operation management and service improvement are based on the metrics that are classified and summarized precedent studies and complemented by empirical measuring indicators, and we propose the maintenance cost estimation model based on this metrics. The maintenance costs can be calculated detailedly, because the proposed metrics can be used selectively, depending on the scope of the information system maintenance. The effectiveness of the proposed maintenance cost measurement metrics and cost estimation model is verified by comparison between existing studies and our research.

  • By means of analyzing the problems in monitoring plan, design, installation, operation based on maintenance monitoring system installed in subway tunnel section, the methods of improvement were proposed for applying to subway monitoring maintenance effectively in future. The choice of the better monitoring system, the operating method of monitoring system, the confidence and continuity of maintenance monitoring, the performance of responsible monitoring supervision in the phase of the planning of monitoring and design were proposed. The problem and developed plan in the different monitoring systems, the calibration and correction of monitoring system, the analysis for the results and plan for maintenance in the phase of installation of monitoring system and operation were also proposed.

  • The remote operation of the Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process (ACP) is analyzed by using the 3D graphic simulation tools. The ACP equipment operates in intense radiation fields as well as in a high temperature. Thus, the equipment should be designed in consideration of the remote handling and maintenance. As well as suitable remote handling and maintenance method needs to be provided. To provide such remote operation technology, we developed the graphic simulator which provides the capability of verifying the remote operability of the ACP without fabrication of the process equipment. In other words, by applying virtual reality to the remote maintenance operation, a remote operation task can be simulated in a computer, not in a real environment. In this way the graphic simulator can substantially reduce the design cost of the remote operation process and the equipment. Also it can provide new operation concept that is more reliable, easier to implement, and easier to understand.

  • Systemic management is required at each phase of the C4I system life cycle to achieve information advantage in the battlefield through stable operation of the C4I system under the NCOE. In particular, the maintenance phase is the longest period of the C4I system life cycle, and it is easy to utilize and analyze data such as faults that occur during system operation. However, according to the previous research, the maintenance is evaluated as a phase in which the definition and management of comprehensive indicators are insufficient compared to other phase. In this paper, we propose the method of C4I Maintenance Priority decision using Maintenance metric. As a result of modifying the Naval Tactical C4I System's preventive maintenance cycle according to the priority, the total number of faults is reduced and the maintenance efficiency is improved.

  • Advanced EMU have been enhanced in terms of safe transport and maintainability. It is a new urban railway technology that enables an operation institution to cut repair and maintenance costs and customers to use convenient service at lower costs based on IT technology. If a development vehicle of Advanced EMU is completed, it will be used to test the entire advanced EMU system through sufficient performance check and reliability check prior to operation in commercial line. It will also verify efficiency, safety, punctuality and energy efficiency of transport. Accordingly, it is necessary to figure how to repair and maintain vehicles to enhance safety of Advanced EMU system in cooperation with operation during the period of comprehensive evaluation on the operation of a development vehicle in a test line. In this paper, we investigated the maintenance program of Advanced EMU on test operation in Dabul line. The test condition and operation environment of Advanced EMU in Daebul line was analyzed.

Optimal Preventive Maintenance Period in Complex Systems in Considering Components Reliability Characteristic (하부 구성품의 신뢰도 특성을 고려한 복합 시스템의 최적 예방정비 주기 산출)

  • Generally the life-cycle cost of complex systems composed of several sub systems or equipments such as train, aircraft weapon systems is spent much more during operation and maintenance phase than development phase. The maintenance cost for maintaining the availability and extending the life span of systems comprise a large proportion of systems operation cost. The cycle of preventive maintenance affects operation and maintenance cost a lot. In this study we introduce a way minimizing life-cycle cost of systems by calculating more reliable preventive maintenance period than the results of previous study using systems reliability data considered the reliability and failure effect ratio of sub-systems or components. We can solve the preventive maintenance period problem known as NP-Hard as quick as possible by using modified genetic algorithm than using other models introduced in previous study.
