Al-Co-N thin films, Al-Co-N/Al-N and Al-Co-N/Al-Co multilayers containing various amounts of Co content were deposited by using a two-facing targets type dc sputtering (TFTS) system. The films were also annealed successively and isothermally at different annealing temperatures. Irrespective of Co content and preparation methods, all the as-deposited films were observed non-magnetized. It was found that annealing conditions can control the magnetic and electrical properties as well as the microstructure of the films.

A thorough study about the influences of Mn substitution for Fe on the microstructure and magnetic characteristics of $Fe_{73.5-x}Mn-{x}Si_{13.5}B_{9}Nb_{3}Cu_1$ (x = 1, 3, 5) alloys prepared by the melt-spinning technique has been performed. Nanocomposites composed of nanoscale $(Fe,Mn)_{3}Si$ magnetic phase embedded in an amorphous matrix were obtained by annealing their amorphous alloys at $535^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The addition of Mn causes a slight increase in the mean grain size. The Curie temperatures of the initial amorphous phase and of the nanocrystals phase decreased, while the Curie temperature of the remaining amorphous phase remained nearly constant with increasing Mn content. Soft magnetic properties of the crystallized samples have been significantly improved by a proper thermal treatment. Accordingly, the giant magnetoimpedance effect is observed and ascribed to the increase of the magnetic permeability, and the decrease of the coercivity of the samples. The increased magnetic permeability is resulted from a decrease in the magnetocrystalline anisotropy and saturation magnetostriction.

The most common structure of the current transformer (CT) consists of a length of wire wrapped many times around a silicon steel ring passed over the circuit being measured. Therefore, the primary circuit of CT consists of a single turn of the conductor, with a secondary circuit of many tens or hundreds of turns. The primary winding may be a permanent part of the current transformer, with a heavy copper bar to carry the current through the magnetic core. However, when the large current flows into a wire, it is difficult to measure its magnitude of current because the core is saturated and the core shows magnetic nonlinear characteristics. Therefore, we proposed a newly designed CT which has an air gap in the core to decrease the generated magnetic flux. Adding the air gap in the magnetic path increases the total magnetic reluctance against the same magnetic motive force (MMF). Using a ferrite core instead of steel also causes the generation of low magnetic flux. These features can protect the magnetic saturation of the CT core compared with the steel core. This technique can help the design of the CT to obtain a special shape and size.

Novel soft magnetic materials can be achieved by altering material properties such as morphology, composition, crystallinity, and grain size of soft magnetic alloys. Especially, magnetic properties (i.e., saturation magnetization, coarcivity) of soft magnetics are significantly affected by grain boundaries which act as a control of magnetic domain wall movement. Thus, we herein develop a two-step electroless plating method to control morphology and grain size of FeCo films for excellent magnetic properties. Accordingly, the chemical composition to control the degree of polarization of FeCo alloys was altered by electroless deposition parameters; for example, electrolyte concentration and temperature. The grain size and crystallinity of FeCo alloys was dramatically affected by the reaction temperature because the grain growth mechanism dominantly occurs at $90^{\circ}C$ where as the neucleation only happens at $50^{\circ}C$. By simply controlling the temperature, the micron-sized FeCo grains embedded FeCo film was synthesized where the large grains allow high magnetization originated from larger magnetic domain with low corecivity and the nano-sized grains allow excellent soft magnetic properties due to the magnetic correlation length.
An artificially modulated magnetic Co/Pd multilayer is one of the promising candidates for high density magneto-optic (MO) recording media, due to a large Kerr rotation angle in the wavelength of a blue laser beam. However, since multilayer structure, as well as amorphous structure, is a non-equilibrium state in terms of free energy and a MO recording technology is a kind of thermal recording which is conducted around Curie temperature (Tc) of the recording media, when the Co/Pd mulilayer is used for the MO recording media, changes in the magnetic properties are occurred as the amorphous structure do. Therefore, the assessment of the magnetic properties in the Co/Pd multilayer during interdiffusion is crucially important both for basic research and applications. As the parameter of the magnetic properties in this research, saturation magnetization and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy energy of the Co/Pd multilayer are measured in terms of Ar sputtering pressure and heat treatment temperature. Form the results of the research, we find out that the magnetic exchange energy between Co and Pd sublayers strongly affects the changes in the magnetic properties of the Co/Pd multilayers during the interdiffusion in ferromagnetic state. This discovery will provide the understanding of the magnetic exchange energy in the Co/Pd multilayer structure and suggest the operating temperature range for MO recording in the Co/Pd multilayer for the basic research and applications, respectively.
Magnetic properties at low-temperatures can diagnose the presence of certain magnetic minerals in rocks. At the Verwey transition temperature ($T_v$, ~105~120 K), magnetite transforms from monoclinic to cubic structure as the temperature increases. At the isotropic point ($T_i$, ~135 K), magnetocrystalline anisotropic constant of magnetite passes through zero (from negative to positive) as the temperature decreases so that its optimal remanence acquisition axis changes from [111] to [001]. A sharp remanence drop was observed at $T_v$ during warming of LTSIRM (low-temperature saturation isothermal remanent magnetization). For cooling of RTSIRM (room-temperature saturation isothermal remanent magnetization), the remanence decreased on passing $T_i$ and $T_v$. On warming of RTSIRM, remanence recovery becomes more prominent as the average grain size of magnetite increases. In summary, the SIRM memory decreases with increasing grain size of magnetite. A similar, but rather gradual, remanence transition occurs for natural samples due to contribution of cations other than Fe. As a non-destructive tool, low-temperature magnetic behavior is sensitive to unravel the magnetic remanence carriers in terrestrial rocks or meteorites.
In order to fabricate magnetoresistive sensor, Fe-Ni and Co-Ni alleys were evaporated on the slide glass and the silicon wafers. Saturation magnetic induction($B_{s}$), coercive field strength($H_{c}$) and magnetoresistance were measured for fabricated samples. The evaporated Fe-Ni thin films show that the saturation magnetic induction was 0.65 T, and coercive field strength was 0.379 A/cm, and this value was changed to 0.370 A/cm(//), 0.390 A/cm(${\bot}$), respectively after magnetic annealing. For the measurement of coercive field strength, magnetizing frequency of 1 kHz was used. For the fabricated sensor element, the change of magnetoresistance (${\Delta}R/R$) was excessively unstable due to oxidation in the process of fabrication. The evaporated Co-Ni alloy thin films show that saturation magnetic induction was 0.66 T, and coercive field strengthes were 5.895 A/cm(//), 5.898 A/cm(${\bot}$), respectively, after magnetic annelaing. The change of magnetoresistance(${\Delta}R/R$) was $3.6{\sim}3.7%$ of which value was excessively stable to room temperature. Fe-Ni thin film could have many problems due to large affinity in the process of fabrication of magnetoresistance sensor, but Co-Ni thin film could be a suitable material for fabrication of magnetoresistance sensor, because of its small affinity and definite magnetoresistance effects.

In this study, we fabricate an integrated microfluidic chip with a planar Hall effect (PHE) sensor for single magnetic bead detection. The PHE sensor was constructed with a junction size of $10{\mu}m{\times}10{\mu}m$ using a trilayer structure of Ta(3 nm)/NiFe(10 nm)/Cu(1.2 nm)/IrMn(10 nm)/Ta(3 nm). The sensitivity of the PHE sensor was 19.86 ${\mu}V/Oe$. A diameter of 8.18 ${\mu}m$ magnetic beads was used, of which the saturation magnetization was ~2.1 emu/g. The magnetic susceptibility ${\chi}$ of these magnetic beads was calculated to be ~0.14. The diluted magnetic beads solution was introduced to the microfluidic channel attributing a single bead flow and simultaneously the PHE sensor voltage was measured to be 0.35 ${\mu}V$. The integrated microchip was able to detect a magnetic moment of $1.98{\times}10^{-10}$ emu.
Nanocrystalline materials of Ni and Ni-Cu alloy have been synthesized by the pulsed wire evaporation (PWE) method and these abnormal magnetic properties in the magnetic ordered state have been characterized using both VSM and SQUID in the range of high and low magnetic fields. Ni and Ni-Cu particles with an average size of 20 to 80 nm were found to influence magnetic hysterisis behavior and the results of powder neutron diffraction patterns and saturation magnetization curves are shown to indicate the absence of the NiO phase. The shifted hysterisis loop and irreversibility of the magnetization curve in the high field region were observed in the magnetic-ordered state of both Ni and Ni-Cu. The virgin magnetization curve for Ni slightly spillover on the limited hysterisis loop ($\pm$20kOe). This irreversibility in the high field of 50 kOe can be explained by non-col-linear behavior and the existence of the metastable states of the magnetization at the surface layer (or core) of the particle in the applied magnetic field. Immiscible alloy of Cu-Ni was also found to show irreversibility having two different magnetic phases.

In odder to investigate the magnetic properties of CoCr-based bilayered thin films on kind of underlayer, we introduced amorphous Si layer to Co-Cr(-Ta) magnetic layer as underlayer. First, we prepared CoCr and CoCrTa single layer using the Facing Targets Sputtering system to investigate theirs properties. It was revealed that with increasing the film thickness of CoCr, CoCrTa single layer, crystalline orientation and perpendicular coercivity was improved. The CoCrTa thin film showed bettor crystalline and magnetic characteristics than CoCr thin film. As a result of investigating magnetic properties of CoCr and CoCrTa magnetic layer on introducing the Si underlayer, perpendicular coercivity and saturation magnetization of CoCr/Si and CoCrTa/Si bilayered thin film were decreased due to the increased grain size and diffusion of Si atoms to magnetic layer. And they showed constant with increasing the film thickness of Si thin film. However, in case of CoCrTa/Si bilayered thin film, in-plane coercivity was controlled low at about 250Oe. The c-axis orientations of CoCr/si and CoCrTa/Si bilayered thin film showed a good crystalline characteristics as about $2^{\circ}$.
