한국형 차세대 자기부상열차 개발을 위한 선진기술분석 및 국내연구현황 (Status of Advanced Tecnhologies and Domestic Researches for Development of Korean Next Generation Maglev)

  • This paper presents the status of advanced technologies and domestic researches for development of Korean next generation maglev. Generally, two specific configurations such as the EMS (Electromagnetic Suspension) with LSM (Linear Synchronous Motor) and EDS (Electrodynamic Suspension) with LSM can be employed as a propulsion and levitation device of high-speed maglev. Worldwide high-speed maglev developments refer to projects such as the German Transrapid with EMS, the Japanese MLX with EDS, and the U.S. Inductrack with PM (Permanent Magnet) EDS maglev system. In this paper, the propulsion and levitation systems of these world wide high-speed maglev have been reviewed and analysed.

LQ제어 기법을 활용한 자기부상열차 부상제어기 설계에 관한 연구 (Study of Design for Maglev Levitation Controller based on LQ theory)

  • The levitation system of Maglev is composed with electro-magnet, power supplier, controller and sensor. The complex interactions between above subcomponents define the characteristics of electromagnetic suspension of the vehicle. In this study, to understand the influence of controller on the running performance of Maglev, the new controller based on LQ theory will be designed and be simulated with simplified vehicle model. Then the influence of controller on the characteristics of electromagnetic suspension will be reviewed through comparison with existing control algorithm of our prototype vehicle.

  • Magnetic fields (MF) generated both on board the vehicle and along the guideway provide levitation and propulsion forces. High speed maglev trains adopt electromagnet or superconducting magnet to realize levitation and propulsion functions. However, stray fields existing in passenger compartment and regions surrounding the vehicle and guideway have effect on passengers and environment. To investigate stray magnetic field effect, model of Transrapid and MLX are studied.

Study on separation of nonferrous metal utilizing magneto-Archimedes method

  • In order to improve resource value, separation of nonferrous metals obtained from crushed materials of home appliances is required. In this study, we aimed to develop a continuous separation system by magneto-Archimedes method using magnetic fluid as a medium and the permanent magnet as a magnetic field source. Firstly, the separation conditions were examined in which only copper is settled and the difference in levitation positions between aluminum and other metals are over 1 cm. Based on the results, levitation experiment of each metal and separation experiment from the mixture of nonferrous metals were confirmed. The separation experiment showed that the continuous separation of copper and aluminum from a mixture of nonferrous metals is possible.

Study of a Hybrid Magnet Array for an Electrodynamic Maglev Control

  • This paper introduces an innovative hybrid array consisting of both permanent and electro magnets. It will enable us to develop an active control mechanism for underdamped electro-dynamic suspension (EDS) Maglev systems. The proposed scheme is based on the Halbach array configuration which takes the major technical advantage from the original Halbach characteristics: a strongly concentrated magnetic field on one side of the array and a cancelled field on the opposite side. In addition, the unique feature of the proposed concept only differs from the Halbach array with permanent magnets. The total magnetic field of the array can be actively controlled through the current of the electro-magnet's coils. As a result, the magnetic force produced by the proposed hybrid array can also be controlled actively. This study focuses on the magnetic characteristics and capability of the proposed array as compared to the basic Halbach concept. The results show that the proposed array is capable of producing not only an equivalent suspension force of the basic Halbach permanent magnet array but also a controlled mode. Consequently, the effectiveness of the proposed array confirms that this study can be used as a technical framework to develop an active control mechanism for an EDS Maglev system.

  • The attraction force is an important parameter for permanent-magnet(PM) linear machines. This paper aims to analysis lumped magnetic circuit model of a magnetic levitation system. It accounts for the fringing effect and leakage flux which may greatly affect the accuracy of the analytical model for the optimal lumped magnetic circuit model. consequentially it will be able to apply to prospective permanent-magnet(PM) linear machines for accurate analysis.

  • For designing a flywheel system using superconductor, it is necessary to understand the basic characteristics of the classical superconductor bearing. It is difficult to expect the characteristics of superconductor bearings using models that have been introduced up to now. In the "Frozen image" concept, the farce between the permanent magnet and the superconductor can be divided into two forces between permanent magnet and two imaginary magnets in the superconductor; one represents attraction farce and the other represents a repulsion force. We calculated the characteristics of two superconductor bearings, such as an axial, the radial stiffness and the levitation force. This calculation method was very helpful to expect the characteristics of the superconductor bearings. Using this model, we established the optimum condition for the superconductor bearing.r bearing.

  • The controller for magnetically suspended vehicles considering the speed characteristics is presented. Generally, the attraction force of magnet is determined by input current and air gap. However, when MAGLEV runs at high speed, induced eddy currents in the rail decrease the attraction force. Thus control characteristics of MAGLEV become deteriorated. Therefore, the variation of attraction force according to speed must be considered. Thus we analyzed the speed characteristics of the magnet by FEM. Also, we study on the control characteristics according to speeds, and design the controller considering the decline of levitation force using Neural Network.

초고속튜브열차 추진/부상용 LSM의 설계 기법 및 특성 분석 연구 (A study on a design method and characteristic analysis of a LSM for a propulsion/levitation of the high-speed tube train)

  • Since it started the researches on a maglev train on 1960, Germany and Japan arrived to putting to practical use level and accomplished most tests from their test-line. Korea is in progress the preparation for a practical use of low-speed maglev train in 110 [km/h] class and Korea Railroad Research Institute(KRRI) is in progress of a research about core technology of maglev system for high-speed tube train of 700 [km/h] class. In this paper, authors suggest an effective design method of Linear Synchronous Motor(LSM) for high-speed tube train of 700 [km/h] class which has a wound type electro-magnet. Then, authors calculate a variety of properties by changing speed of the LSM model which is designed by a method based on some theoretical equations. Then, authors verify the validity of the method based on some theoretical equations through a verification of property values by Finite Element Method(FEM) analysis method. Finally, in order to design a shape of pole-shoe part of LSM electro-magnet which is hard to design with a basic design method, authors analyze a transition of property values by changing a pole-shoe width and current of the electro-magnet through an analytical method by FEM.

  • A nonlinear controller based on feedback linearization method is proposed for an electromagnetic suspension system. After exactly linearizing the system with nonlinear feedback, linear control technique is applied. Modeling of stagger typed magnet is introduced and controlled for not only levitation, but guidance. By the feedback linearization, the nonlinear, MIMO system is linearized and decoupled, so we can use linear control law. The simulation of this system control skim is demonstrated. Robustness properties of the proposed controller with respect to the load variations and external disturbance is also analyzed for a multi input multi output system. In this properties, the boundary of variation is proposed.
