This study investigated how pre-service English teachers perceive the effects of machine teaching on their English writing competence. 35 Korean students who are majoring in English education participated in this study. The participants used machine translators for one of the required courses related to English composition. A survey and focus group interview were conducted at the end of the course. They were asked to answer to what degree they perceive the effects of machine translators on their writing in terms of lexical, sentential, and discourse levels. Furthermore, their perspectives on the effects of machine translation on English teaching including limitations of machine translators, were interviewed in more detail. The results show that the participants perceive machine translators quite positively in terms of improving their writing competence, but they also point out some critical limitations of machine translators. These findings have some pedagogical implications for English writing course instructors, English teacher educators, and program developers.

A light-weight enough to be portable yet functionally complete hand-writing machine was designed with hardware assembled and software implemented. The machine simulating human hand-writing not only allows identical massive scriptings on papers in human's proxy, but also offers emotional appearance as if the script was directly hand-written in ink. The features of human writing were independently put together to complete the action of scripting. The writing style could be altered in order to mimic a person's own specific writing style. The present work demonstrates that the assembled hand-writing machine was able to duplicate writing of scripts in almost parallel lines in consistent manner. The machine can be used in the emotional marketing area where seasonal greetings or thank-you cards are to be sent in massive manner. The pen-holding machine can also find an emotional application such as writing a short greeting note on a plastic lid on a disposable coffee cup in coffee-selling stores.

This study aimed to investigate beginner-level learners' use of translators in L2 writing, and shed light on its validity in writing performance through their responses on the necessity, reliability and limitation of machine translation. 117 university students from beginner-level L2 writing classes participated in the survey. Additionally, 11 of them were interviewed about their answers. The survey and interview data revealed varying viewpoints such as reliability and effects as well as reasons for choosing translator-assisted writing. The vast majority(76.1%) used web-based machine translators for their writing activities, and employed various strategies to help their insufficient L2 skills and to increase their motivation and confidence. On the other hand, they exhibited its detrimental effects including it could lead to plagiarism, and interfere with the learning process unless they post-edited the given translation. However, translators were viewed as a new, efficient, and valid educational tool for effective and successful L2 writing.

In this paper, we introduce an automatic scoring system for middle-school level writing test based on using machine learning techniques. We discuss overall process and features for building an automatic English writing scoring system. A "concept answer" which represents an abstract meaning of text is newly introduced in order to evaluate the elaboration of a student's answer. In this work, multiple machine learning algorithms are adopted for scoring English writings. We suggest a decision process "optimal combination" which optimally combines multiple outputs of machine learning algorithms and generates a final single output in order to improve the performance of the automatic scoring. By experiments with actual test data, we evaluate the performance of overall automated English writing scoring system.

Recently, open source automatic machine learning solutions have been applied in many fields. To apply open source automated machine learning to real world problems, you need to write code with expertise in machine learning. Writing code without machine learning knowledge is challenging. To solve this problem, the automatic machine learning solutions provided by startups are made easy to use with a clean user interface. In this paper, we review automatic machine learning solutions of startups.

AI-powered robot news is drawing attention as artificial intelligence technology is fully spread in the news distribution field. Robot news still has many technical and ethical problems, but academic research on this is insufficient. This study analyzes the issue of robot writing in artificial intelligent based robot journalism industry using SWOT analysis. As a result, the advantages of big data processes, accurate information gathering, high efficiency and disadvantages such as lack of independent arguments and lack of evidence and opportunities for technical development, government support, academic development, and industrial applications, and threats such as uncritical acceptance and lack of talent have been found. This study suggests three future-oriented directions, such as human-machine collaboration, intelligent news, and chat-bot, through previous studies on the development direction of robot journalism-based article writing.

In this paper, we modeled the methods and steps of reflective writing education that effectively utilizes GPT to enable actual classes. In this paper, we sought a teaching model that can be effectively utilized in self-reflective writing education in a reality where it is physically and practically difficult to prevent the use of an artificial intelligence writing machine called GPT. First, in the preparation stage, we made students understand the operating principles of GPT and educated the application team, while suggesting a teaching method using GPT to model and personalize writing ideas. Afterwards, an example of the task was given. Second, in the stage of using GPT, we showed how to model and internalize writing ideas using GPT according to the process of outlining, paragraphing, and reviewing reflective writing. Third, in the organizing stage, the instructor helped learners edit and make final edits to their writing and presented a process of organizing and reflecting.

This study was carried out in an L2 writing class using machine translation. The aim of this study was to explore what types of errors are identified the most frequently in the Korean-to-English machine translation output and what causes those errors. The participants were seven EFL university students who completed three writing tasks throughout the semester. The findings of data analysis indicated that the most common errors were seen in sentence structure and mechanics, and those errors in the translated texts were caused by the errors in the Korean source texts.

최근 인공지능의 새로운 기술들이 하루가 다르게 발전하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인공지능 교육과 글쓰기 교육을 연계하여 초등학생들의 어휘력 향상을 위한 수업을 설계하고자 한다. 그 방법으로는 본 수업에 앞서 어휘 10문제를 테스트하여 실험에 참가하기 전의 어휘력을 점검한다. 그 후 머신러닝 포키즈를 이용하여 여러 감정에 해당되는 단어들을 다양하게 훈련하도록 하였고, 그 후 관련된 어휘 10문제를 다시 테스트 하였다. 실험 결과 실험에 참가하기 전에는 100점 만점에 58.8점으로 나왔으나 훈련 후의 결과는 평균 68점으로 모든 학생의 성적이 좋아지는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 어휘력 문항수가 적은 점과 10명의 실험참가자로 일반화할 수 없는 한계가 있다. 향후 초등교재 한권을 선정하여 어휘를 모두 분석한 후 가장 많이 등장하는 어휘를 골라내어 테스트하여 좀 더 통계적으로 의미 있는 분석을 하고자 한다.

With the recent rise in the use of AI-based online translation tools, interest in their methods and effects on education has grown. This study involved 30 prospective elementary school teachers who completed an English writing task using an AI-based online translation tool. The study focused on assessing the impact of these tools on English writing skills and their practical applications. It examined the usability, educational value, and the advantages and disadvantages of the AI translation tool. Through data collected via writing tests, surveys, and interviews, the study revealed that the use of translation tools positively affects English writing skills. From the learners' perspective, these tools were perceived to provide support and convenience for learning. However, there was also recognition of the need for educational strategies to effectively use these tools, alongside concerns about methods to enhance the completeness or accuracy of translations and the potential for over-reliance on the tools. The study concluded that for effective utilization of translation tools, the implementation of educational strategies and the role of the teacher are crucial.
