  • In this paper, two receive diversity combining techniques are proposed for single-carrier Sequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA)-based cooperative relay systems when DFT spreading sizes for mobile station (MS) and relay station (RS) are different. A simplified-MRC (5-MRC) technique performs diversity combining in the time domain using the estimated channel weight and initial values obtained by SC-FDMA signal detection. An interference rejection-MRC (IR-MRC) technique performs diversity combining in the frequency domain by adjusting DFT spreading size in the receiver. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed receive diversity combining techniques achieve a significant performance gain over the conventional MRC technique with zero forcing (ZF) detector.

  • Baseflow which is one of the unmeasurable components of streamflow and slowly flows through underground is important for water resource management. Despite various separation methods from researches preceded, it is difficult to find a significant separation method for baseflow separation. This study applied the MRC method and developed the improved approach to separate baseflow from total streamflow hydrograph. Previous researchers utilized the whole streamflow data of study period at once to derive synthetic MRCs causing unreliable results. This study has been proceeded with total nine areas with gauging stations. Each three areas are selected from 3 domestic major watersheds. Tool for drawing MRC had been used to draw MRCs of each area. First, synthetic MRC for whole period and two other MRCs were drawn following two different criteria. Two criteria were set by different conditions, one is flow condition and the other is seasonality. The whole streamflow was classified according to seasonality and flow conditions, and MRCs had been drawn with a specialized program. The MRCs for flow conditions had low R2 and similar trend to recession segments. On the other hand, the seasonal MRCs were eligible for the baseflow separation that properly reflects the seasonal variability of baseflow. Comparing two methods of assuming MRC for baseflow separation, seasonal MRC was more effective for relieving overestimating tendency of synthetic MRC. Flow condition MRCs had large distribution of the flow and this means accurate MRC could not be found. Baseflow separation using seasonal MRC is showing more reliability than the other one however, if certain technique added up to the flow condition MRC method to stabilize distribution of the streamflow, the flow conditions method could secure reliability as much as seasonal MRC method.

  • Hybrid beamformer composed of Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) based scheme followed by Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) is proposed to overcome the degradation due to inaccurate channel estimation caused by insufficient pilot power, which happens in conventional Single-Input Multiple-Output (SIMO) Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) reverse link. The proposed scheme could provide more accurate channel estimation and interference reduction at the expense of diversity gam in the spatially correlated SIMO channel. As a result, hybrid scheme outperforms conventional MRC beamformer for six or more antennas in the channel environment, in which Angle-of-Spread (AOS) is within 30$^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, we propose a receive diversity method for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems with cochannel interference. In the method, combining is done in the frequency domain by using the subcarrier based maximum ratio combining (MRC) method. For MRC, we exploit the power of cochannel interference as well as the power of channel noise. The accuracy of the power estimate of interference plus noise is enhanced by averaging the initial estimates over the correlated subchannels where the coherency between the subchannel gains comes from the limited delay spread of the channel. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields 2-3.5dB gain of signal to noise ratio compared to the conventional MRC method and less than 1 dB difference to the ideal case.

  • Background: Dust clouds blown by the wind from the arid deserts of Mongolia and Northeast China are known as Asian dust storms. Ambient particulate matter with a diameter <10 ${\mu}m$ ($PM_{10}$) is associated with the exacerbation of respiratory diseases and increased mortality of heart and lung disease patients. The fibrotic effects of $PM_{10}$ of Asian dust to pulmonary fibroblast cells are unknown. This study examined the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), TGF-${\beta}$, NF-${\kappa}B$, PDGF-$\alpha$ and Fibronectin in fibroblasts exposed to Asian dust particles. Methods: Air samples were collected using a high volume air sampler (Sibata model HV500F) with an air flow of 500 L/min for at least 6 hours. The MRC-5 cells were exposed to 0, 50 and 100 ${\mu}g/mL$ of $PM_{10}$ for 24 hours. ROS was detected by measuring the level of oxidized DCF using FACS. TGF-$\beta$, NF-${\kappa}B$, PDGF-$\alpha$ and fibronectin were detected by western blotting. Results: There was no increase in the ROS, TGF-$\beta$ and PDGF-$\alpha$ levels in the MRC-5 cells exposed to $PM_{10}$. The NF-${\kappa}B$ level was higher in the MRC-5 cells exposed to 50 and 100 ${\mu}g/mL$ of $PM_{10}$ for 24 hours. The fibronectin level in the MRC-5 cells after 24 hours incubation with 50 ${\mu}g/mL$ $PM_{10}$ was significantly higher than the control group ($PM_{10}$ 50 ${\mu}g/mL$ 113.27${\pm}$8.65 of control, p=0.005). Conclusion: $PM_{10}$ from Asian dust increases the activation of NF-${\kappa}B$ and fibronectin expression in MRC-5 fibroblast cells.

  • We derive and analyze the exact closed-form expression for the average bit error probability (BEP) of M-ary square quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) for diversity reception in frequency-nonselective Nakagami fading. A maximal ratio combining (MRC) diversity technique with independent or correlated fading cases are considered. Numerical results demonstrate error performance improvement with the use of MRC diversity reception. The presented new expressions offer a convenient way to evaluate the performance of M-ary square QAM with an MRC diversity combiner for various cases of practical interest.

  • The purpose of this paper is to theoretically analysis of performance of MRC diversity for detection of M-ary signals on the Rician fading channels. To do it, the difference between the approximation to bit error probability and the exact bit error rate (BER) in evaluating the performance of MPSK signals is investigated by numerical analyses. In addition, the performance evaluation of MDPSK signals in the independent branch diversity is performed by an integral-form expression in case of when MDPSK signal in MRC system is experiencing the Rician fading.

  • Objective: Since IVF program was first established, various types of media and culture systems have been developed either in-house or commercially. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of in-house Maria Research Center (MRC) media to that of commercially available Sydney IVF media in human day 3 embryo transfer cycles. Methods: Three hundred sixty nine couples were included in this prospective, randomized, and comparative study. All couples undergoing IVF treatment at the Maria Fertility Hospital were randomly assigned to either Sydney IVF (n=178) or MRC (n=191) media. Results: No difference was observed between the MRC media and Sydney IVF media groups with respect to fertilization rate (74.4% vs. 75.5%). The clinical pregnancy and implantation rates of MRC media (47.1% and 20.0%, respectively) were also similar to those of Sydney IVF media (44.4% and 19.4%, respectively). However, the proportion of embryos with good quality on day 3 was significantly higher in the MRC media group than the Sydney IVF media group (50.2% vs. 43.2%) ($p$ <0.05). Conclusion: MRC media were as effective as Sydney IVF media for sustaining embryo development and pregnancy rates. The present study implies that MRC media can be a suitable alternative to commercially available media for human IVF-ET program.

  • In multicarrier code division multiple access(MC-CDMA), the total system bandwidth is divided into a number of sub-bands, where each subband may use direct-sequence(DS) spreading and each subband signal is transmitted using a subcarrier frequency. In this paper, the system performance analysis of MC-CDMA using to gain combining(EGC) and maximal ratio combining(MRC) method over frequency selective Nakagami-m fading channel is analyzed. In the proposed system, a data sequence is serial-to-parallel converted, and MC-CDMA is used on each of the parallel data streams. The data streams are spread at both the symbol fraction level and at the chip level by the transmitter. In this paper, the compare to analysis, two standard diversity combining techniques, EGC and MRC, The good performance of system using to MRC more than EGC
