  • Ethernet has been given a greater attention recently due to tendency of unifying most of transmission technique to ethernet. This paper studied the design of MAC which contains high layer interface, transmit engine, flow control block, receive engine, reconciliation sublayer, configuration block, statistics block, and XGMll interface block. Performance evaluation was performed using C language for 10cbps ethernet Data Link to design the optimum hardware, then internal FIFO and initial parameters were evaluated. When offered load is $95\%$, the size of the internal FIFO is required 512-word. When offered load is $97\%$, the size of the internal FIFO is required 1024-word. Based on the result of performance evaluation, MAC was designed in VHDL Language and verified using simulator. MAC core that processes 64-bit data, operates at 168.549MHz and hence supports the maximum 10.78Gbps. The designed MAC core is applicable to an area that needs a high-speed data processing of 10Gbps or more.

  • USB has arguably become the most successful PC peripheral interconnect ever defined. As appearing UWB, wireless USB (WUSB) emerges very popular technology. However, the distributed Medium Access Control (MAC) does not harmonize with the topology of WUSB. In this paper, we address a novel MAC protocol for conformity with WUSB. The protocol is to handle negotiation on Distributed Reservation Protocol (DRP) including the channel time slot of WUSB.

  • In this paper, we propose a design methodology of IEEE 802.11n MAC which aims to achieve the higher throughput of more than 100Mbps in downlink as measured at the MAC-SAP and present the implementation results of MAC using the proposed design methodology. With our proposed methodology, different from the conventional design flow which has the separate codes for the protocol validation, for the network simulation, and for the system implementation, the unified code can be used for the network simulation and the implementation of software and hardware. Our MAC architecture is partitioned into two parts, Upper-layer MAC and Lower-layer MAC, in order to achieve the high efficiency for the new features of IEEE 802.11n standard. They are implemented in software and hardware respectively. The implemented MAC is tested on ARM based FPGA board.

  • Opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) allows unlicensed users to share licensed spectrum in space and time with no or little interference to primary users, with bring new research challenges in MAC design. We propose a cognitive MAC protocol using statistical channel information and selecting appropriate idle channel for transmission. The protocol based on the CSMA/CA, exploits statistics of spectrum usage for decision making on channel access. Idle channel availability, spectrum hole sufficiency and available channel condition will be included in algorithm statistical information. The model include the control channel and data channel, the transmitter negotiates with receiver on transmission parameters through control channel, statistical decision results (successful rate of transmission) from exchanged transmission parameters of control channel should pass the threshold and decide the data transmission with spectrum hole on data channel. The proposed protocol's simulation will show that proposed protocol does improve the throughput performance via traditional opportunistic spectrum access MAC protocol.

  • Main design issues for MAC (Medium Access Control) protocol in underwater sensor networks are long propagation delay caused by the low speed of sound, difficult synchronization, and energy-limited node's life. We aimed to mitigate the problems of strict synchronization and channel inefficiency of TDMA and also the throughput degradation induced by unavoidable collisions in contention based MAC protocols. This proposed protocol improved not only the energy efficiency by adopting a sleep-mode, but also the throughput by reducing collisions and increasing channel efficiency.

  • In this paper we propose a traffic aware Demand Wakeup MAC(TADW-MAC) protocol, in which low data delay and high throughput can be achieved, for wireless sensor networks. With the TADW-MAC protocol, the problem of the DW-MAC protocol, which schedules only one packet to deliver during the Sleep period in a multi-hop transmission is resolved. DW-MAC is not adequate for the applications such as object tracking and fire detection, in which busty data should be transmitted in a limited time when an event occurs [6-8]. When an event occurs, duty cycle can be adjusted in the TADW-MAC protocol to get less energy consumption and low latency. The duty cycle mechanism has been widely used to save energy consumption of sensor node due to idle listening in wireless sensor networks. But additional delay in packet transmission may be increased in the mechanism. Our simulation results show that TADW-MAC outperforms RMAC and DW-MAC in terms of energy efficiency while achieving low latency.

  • The directional medium access control (MAC) protocol improves the throughput of mobile ad hoc networks but has a deafness problem and requires location information for neighboring nodes. In the dual-channel directional MAC protocol [12], the use of omnidirectional packets does not require the exact location of destination node. In this letter, we propose a tone dual-channel MAC protocol with directional antennas to improve the throughput of mobile ad hoc networks. In the proposed MAC protocol, we use a directional CTS and an out-of-band directional DATA tone with a new blocking algorithm to improve the spatial reuse. We confirm the throughput performance of the proposed MAC protocol by computer simulations using the Qualnet simulator.

  • Bidirectional cable TV networks using HFC(Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) networks need MAC (Medium access control) protocols to have efficient access in upstream channels. In this paper, we have studied and evaluated several contention resolution algorithms and mapping of higher layer traffic described in IEEE 802.14 and MCNS (Multimedial Cable Network System) MAC protocols with respect to IP, ABR and CBR traffic types. IEEE 802.14 MAC protocol demonstrates better performance for transmitting ATM cells while the MCNS MAC protocols for the IP traffic.
