  • In this paper we prove Ekeland's variational principle in the setting of locally complete spaces for lower semi continuous functions from above and bounded below. We use this theorem to prove Caristi's fixed point theorem in the same setting and also for lower semi continuous functions.

  • New classes of multifunctions called fuzzy upper and fuzzy lower semi-irresolute (semi-continuous) multifunctions in fuzzy topological spaces are introduced in this paper. We also obtain some characterizations of this class and some basic interesting properties of such fuzzy multifunctions. We discuss mutual relationship and also relationship with other existing such multifunctions.

  • In this paper, we focus on the convex-valued selection theorem out of four main selection theorems; zero-dimensional, convex-valued, compact-valued, finite-dimensional theorems based on Michael's papers. We prove some theorems about lower semi-continuous set-valued mappings, and derive some applications to closed continuous set-valued mappings and to functional analysis. We also give a partial solution to the open problem posed by Engelking, Heath, and Michael.

  • We study categorical properties of the category SWQOS (S$\^$U/WQOS, S$\^$L/WQOS, resp) of (upper, lower, resp.) semi-continuous quasi-ordered spaces and the subcategory SWPOS (S$\^$U/WPOS, S$\^$L/WPOS, resp.) of (upper, lower, resp.) semicontinuous partially ordered spaces. We show that the categories S$\^$U/WPOS, S$\^$L/WPOS and SWPOS are closed under the formation of initial mono-sources in the category TQOS of topological quasi-ordered spaces, and they we mono-topological, complete and cocomplete epireflective subcategories of the category TQOS. We obtain their MacNeille and universal initial completions, as well as those of subcatego.ies S$\^$U/WQOS(S$\^$L/WQOS) and SWQOS, in which the topologies are T$\_$0/ and T$_1$, respectively.

  • Let U and V be nonempty compact subsets of two Hausdorff topological vector spaces. Suppose that a function $J : U \times V \to R$ is such that for each $\upsilon \in V, J(\cdot, \upsilon)$ is lower semi-continuous and convex on U, and for each $ u \in U, J(u, \cdot)$ is upper semi-continuous and concave on V.

  • Let X, Y be normed linear spaces, and let p$_{1}$, p.sub 2/ be lower semi-continuous fuzzy norms on X, Y respectively, and have the bounded supports on X, Y respectively. In this paper, we prove that if Y is conplete, the set of all fuzzy continuous linear maps from X into Y is a fuzzy complete fuzzy normed linear space.

  • The focus of this research is to realize the function which is equivalent to the active suspension system, with controlling semi-active suspension through the attenuation of power variable damper in lower cost and smaller energy. Actually some semi-active suspension systems have been adopted, but they are not sufficient in performance. The authors intended to develop more effective and practical system and applied the optimal control technique. The results of experiments with practical suspension system showed a degree of improvement of comfortableness.

  • Semi-active control systems have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years because these systems can operate on battery power alone, proving advantageous during seismic events when the main power source of the structure may likely fail. The behavior of semi-active devices is often highly non-linear and requires suitable and efficient control algorithm. This paper presents the comparative study and performance of variable semi-active friction dampers by using recently proposed predictive control law with direct output feedback. In this control law, the variable slip force of semi-active variable friction damper is kept slightly lower than the critical friction force, which allows the damper to remain in the slip state during an earthquake, resulting in improved energy dissipation capability. This control algorithm is able to produce a continuous and smooth slip forces for a variable friction damper. The numerical examples include a structure controlled with multiple variable semi-active friction dampers and with multiple passive friction dampers. A parameter, gain multiplier defined as the ratio of damper force to critical damper control force, is investigated under four different real earthquake ground motions, which plays an important role in the present control algorithm of the damper. The numerically evaluated optimum parametric value is considered for the analysis of the structure with dampers. The numerical results of the variable friction dampers show better performance over the passive dampers in reducing the seismic response of structures.
