  • A conventional active-clamp forward (ACF) converter is a favorable candidate in low-to-medium power applications. However, the switches suffer from high voltage stress, i.e., sum of the input voltage and the reset capacitor voltage. Therefore, it is not suitable for high input voltage applications such as a front-end converter of which the input voltage is about 400-$V_{dc}$. To solve this problem, three-switch ACF (TS-ACF) converter, which employs two main switches and one auxiliary switch with low voltage stress, is proposed. Utilizing low-voltage rated switches, the proposed converter is promising for high input voltage applications with high efficiency and low cost.

  • This paper describes that the resonant tank type DC-DC converter consist of reactor and capacitor resonant tank circuit for increased the output current. This circuit configuration is composed of the resonant tank circuit used resonant capacitor and reactor and the capacitor connected in switch are a common using by resonance capacitor and ZVS(Zero Voltage Switching) capacitor. Therefore, the proposed converter can reduce a switching losses, noise, and voltage stress at turn-on and turn-on and has an advantage which is able to operating safely in load short, because DC reactor is connected with resonance reactor in order to supply a fixed current with low ripple from DC power supply. The analysis of proposed circuit uses normalized parameters and characteristic estimation is generally described the proposed circuit with the characteristics of power and output voltage etc. Also, design is based on the characteristic estmations in each step. Hence, We conform a rightfulness theoretical analysis by comparing a theoretical values and experimental values obtained from experiment.

  • This paper proposes a bridgeless half-bridge AC-DC converter with high-efficiency. The proposed converter integrates the bridgeless power factor correction (PFC) circuit with the asymmetrical pulse-width modulated (APWM) half-bridge DC-DC converter. It provides the isolated DC output voltage from the AC line voltage without using any full-bridge diode rectifier. Conduction losses are lowered with a simple circuit structure. Switching losses are also reduced by achieving zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the power switches. By using series-connected two transformers, the proposed converter provides a low-profile and high power density for AC-DC converters. The performance of the proposed converter is verified from a 250 W (48 V / 5.2 A) experimental prototype circuit at $90 \;V_{rms}$ line voltage.

  • The high efficiency power management IC(PMIC) with DT-CMOS(Dynamic Threshold voltage MOSFET) switching device for portable application is proposed in this paper. Because portable applications need high output voltages and low output voltage, Boost converter and Buck converter are embedded in One-chip. PMIC is controlled with PWM control method in order to have high power efficiency at high current level. DTMOS with low on-resistance is designed to decrease conduction loss. Boost converter and Buck converter, are based on Voltage-mode PWM control circuits and low on-resistance switching device, achieved the high efficiency near 92.1% and 95%, respectively, at 100mA output current. And Step-down DC-DC converter in stand-by mode below 1mA is designed with LDO in order to achive high efficiency.

  • This paper proposed an optimized design of a dual active bridge converter for a low-voltage charger. The dual active bridge converter among various bi-directional DC/DC converters is a high-efficiency isolated bi-directional converter. In the general design, when the battery voltage is high, the ZVS region is reduced. In contrast, when the battery voltage is low, the efficiency is low due to high conduction loss. In order to increase the ZVS region and the power conversion efficiency, depending on the battery voltage, variable switching frequency method is applied. At the same duty, the same power is obtained regardless of the battery voltage using the variable switching frequency method. The proposed method was applied to a 5kW prototype converter, and the experimental results were analyzed and verified.

  • This paper proposes a modularized charge equalization converter for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) lithium-ion battery cells, in which the intra-module and the inter-module equalizer are Implemented. Considering the high voltage HEV battery pack, over approximately 300V, the proposed equalization circuit modularizes the entire $M^*N$ cells; in other words, M modules in the string and N cells in each module. With this modularization, low voltage stress on all the electronic devices, below roughly 64V, can be obtained. In the intra-module equalization, a current-fed DC/DC converter with cell selection switches is employed. By conducting these selection switches, concentrated charging of the specific under charged cells can be performed. On the other hand, the inter-module equalizer makes use of a voltage-fed DC/DC converter for bi-directional equalization. In the proposed circuit, these two converters can share the MOSFET switch so that low cost and small size can be achieved. In addition, the absence of any additional reset circuitry in the inter-module equalizer allows for further size reduction, concurrently conducting the multiple cell selection switches allows for shorter equalization time, and employing the optimal power rating design rule allows fur high power density to be obtained. Experimental results of an implemented prototype show that the proposed equalization scheme has the promised cell balancing performance for the 7Ah HEV lithium-ion battery string while maintaining low voltage stress, low cost, small size, and short equalization time.

  • The starter of the turbo generator is composed of a high speed generator(HSG), an inverter and a boost converter instead of a gearbox, a DC motor and a low-voltage battery in the starter of the turbo shaft generation system. Because turbo generator is needed a high speed motoring at start-up, high speed generator has a low leakage inductance and inverter need a high DC link voltage. In this study, for developing the stater of a turbo generator, a boost converter with a high capacity was developed to convert high voltage from a low battery voltage. And for controlling a high frequency current to be injected to a motor winding with a low leakage inductance, the inverter with a high precision and a high speed operation was designed and for a stable ignition, the starting algorithm of a turbo generator was proposed. Turbo generator was started by the starter developed to verify the performances.

  • It is well known that series arc faults in Low Voltage DC (LVDC) distribution system occur at unintended points of discontinuity within an electrical circuit. These faults can make circuit breakers not respond timely due to low fault current. It, therefore, is needed to detect the series fault for protecting circuits from electrical fires. This paper proposes a novel scheme to detect the series arc fault using Wavelet Singular Value Decomposition (WSVD) and state diagram. In this paper, the fault detector developed is designed by using three criterion factors based on the RMS value of Singular value of Approximation (SA), Sum of the absolute value of Detail (SD), and state diagram. LVDC distribution system including AC/DC and DC/DC converter is modeled to verify the proposed scheme using ElectroMagnetic Transient Program (EMTP) software. EMTP/MODELS is also utilized to implement the series arc model and WSVD. Simulation results according to various conditions clearly show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • A new resonant pulse converter for energy harvesting is proposed. The converter transfers energy from a low-voltage AC current to a battery. The low-voltage AC current source is an equivalent of the piezoelectric generator, which converts the mechanical energy to the electric energy. The converter consists of a full-bridge rectifier having four N-type MOSFETs and a boost converter haying N-type MOSFET and P-type MOSFET instead of diode. Switching of MOSFETs utilizes the capability of the $3^{rd}$ regional operation. The operational principles and switching method for the power control of the converter are investigated with the consideration of effects of the parasitic capacitances of MOSFETs. Simulation and experiment are performed to prove the analysis of the converter operation and to show the possibility of the $\mu$W energy harvesting.
