  • The low frequency noise, including infra-sound is known to affect human physiology and psychology. Guidelines and measurement method of low frequency noise has been introduced in several countries in order to evaluate low frequency noise. In this work, low frequency characteristics of Daejeon subway was investigated in terms of the noise level and spectrum in the interior of running subway car and the subway station. The interior sound pressure level of the passenger car was between 60 and 102 dB in the frequency range of $1{\sim}250$ Hz.

  • This paper proposes a 2.4 GHz RF oscillator with a very low close-in phase noise performance. This is composed of a low frequency crystal oscillator and three frequency multipliers such as two doubler (X2) and one tripler (X3). The proposed oscillator is implemented as a hybrid type circuit design using a discrete silicon bipolar transistor. The measurement results of the proposed oscillator structure show -115 dBc/Hz close-in phase noise at 10 kHz offset frequency, while only dissipating 5 mW from a 1-V supply. Its close-in phase noise level is very close to that of a low frequency crystal oscillator with little degradation of noise performance. The proposed structure which is consisted of a low frequency crystal oscillator and a frequency multiplier provides new method to implement a low power low close-in phase noise RF local oscillator.

  • In this paper, it is confirmed that the metrics used to evaluate image quality can be applied to low-light images. Due to the nature of low-illumination images, factors related to light create various noise patterns, and the smaller the amount of light, the more severe the noise. Therefore, in situations where it is difficult to obtain a clean image without noise, the quality of a low-illuminance image from which noise has been removed is often judged by the human eye. In this paper, noise in low-illuminance images for which ground truth cannot be obtained is removed using Noise2Noise, and spatial resolution and radial resolution are evaluated using ISO 12233 charts and colorchecker as metrics such as MTF and SNR. It can be shown that the quality of the low-illuminance image, which has been evaluated mainly for qualitative evaluation, can also be evaluated quantitatively.

  • Hydraulic breaker is currently used for many civil engineering areas owing to the ease of changing the tooling mechanism. However, due to a high noise level, it has been one of notorious sources of environmental noise and the prevailing environmental concerns force the manufacturers to reduce the radiated noise levee during operations. To comply with such concerns, the present study is focused on designing and developing a low-noise hydraulic breaker For this purpose, sound sources are identified and relative contributions are rated. Acoustic enclosure. sealing systems, and low-nolle type chisel have been developed and applied to the actual machine. As a result, the radiated noise from the developed low-noose hydraulic breaker is reduced more than 13 dB(A) In comparison with the conventional hydraulic bleaker.

  • This paper describes a 2.5V, 320MHz low-noise and low-power Phase Locked Loop(PLL) using a noise-rejected Voltage Controlled ring Oscillator(VCO) fabricated in a TSMC 0.25um CMOS technology. In order to improve the power consumption and oscillation frequency of the PLL, The VCO consist of three-stage fully differential delay cells that can obtain the characteristic of high speed, low power and low phase noise. The VCO operates at 7MHz -670MHz. The oscillator consumes l.58mA from a 320MHz frequency and 2.5V supply. When the PLL with fully-differential ring VCO is locked 320MHz, the jitter and phase noise measured 26ps (rms), 157ps (p-p) and -97.09dB at 100kHz offset. We introduce and analysis the conditions in which ring VCO can oscillate for low-power operation.

  • Low frequency exhaust noise of marine diesel engine is one of the most important noise sources in vessels. However, conventional absorptive silencers are ineffective to control exhaust noise because of low absorption in the low frequency range. In the paper, exhaust noise control of marine diesel engine was studied by using the hybrid silencer, which was composed of virtually divided array of concentric hole-cavity resonators and conventional absorptive silencer. A series of tests including field tests were performed to investigate the acoustic performance of the hybrid silencer. Consequently, its high performance of 5${\sim}$10 dB noise reduction in the low frequency range was confirmed and it is expected to be very helpful in reducing the exhaust noise of marine diesel engine.

  • In this paper, characteristics of infrasound and low-frequency noise emission from large modern wind turbines are experimentally investigated. The sound measurement procedures of IEC 61400-11 and ISO 7196 are utilized to field test and evaluation of noise emission from each of 1.5 MW and 660 kW wind turbines using the stall regulation and the pitch control for the power regulation, respectively. It was found that the G-weighted SPLs of low-frequency noise including infrasound shows positive correlation with the wind speeds, irrespective of methods of power regulation. This highlights the potential complaint of local community against the infrasound and low-frequency noise of wind turbines. The comparison of measured data with the existing hearing thresholds and criteria curves shows that it is highly probable that the low-frequency noise from the 1.5 MW and 660 kW wind turbines in the frequency range over 30 Hz leads to the psychological complaint of ordinary adults, and that the infrasound in the frequency range from 5 Hz to 8 Hz causes the complaint by rattling the house fitting such as doors and windows.

  • Compressor is a major noise source of air-conditioner. Especially, its low frequency band noise below 1000㎐ is very important because it will not be attenuated by passing through the cover panel and heat exchanger in air-conditioner. The factors affecting the low frequency band noise are studied by geometric similarity along with several experiments, and the low frequency noise is closely related with the discharge holes of muffler as well as the cavity of lower shell. • A method of deminishing low frequency noise by acoustic acoupling with compliant wall is described. The coupled governing equations and boundary conditions are derived and solved. The coupled system shows very interesting behavior in the low frequency region; in the low frequency, acoustic wave doesn't propagate, but decay to satisfy the boundary condition with the compliant wall. Henceforth using this mechanism, we propose a method of reducing low frequency noise, which is infact related with the physical properties of compliant wall. The method has been experimentally verified.

  • In this paper, a novel circuit topology of a low-noise amplifier tunable at 1.8GHz band for PCS and 2.4GHz band for WLAN using a CMOS active inductor is proposed. This circuit topology to reduce higher noise figure of the low noise amplifier with the CMOS active load is analyzed. Furthermore, the noise canceling technique is adopted to reduce more the noise figure. The noise figure of the proposed circuit topology is analyzed and simulated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process technology. Thus, the simulation results exhibit that the noise performance enhancement of the tunable low noise amplifier is about 3.4dB, which is mainly due to the proposed new circuit topology.
