Coarse granular material is used as important fill material in most of large embankments such as railway, road, dam and so on. Therefore, the accurate design parameters of the coarse granular material are necessarily required in design and construction. The behavior of the coarse granular material was not well understood because of the lack of large testing equipment capable of coarse granular material. A large triaxial testing system was developed in this research, capable of large specimens of 500 mm, 300 mm and 150 mm in diameter. In the new large triaxial testing system, the load cell is installed inside the triaxial cell and axial displacement is measured locally on a specimen in order to improve control and measurement in small strain level. Urethane specimens of 300 mm and 50 mm in diameter were prepared. The large triaxial tests were performed on the 300 mm diameter urethane specimens while RC/TS and impact echo tests on the 50 mm diameter urethane specimens to verify this testing system. In this verification test results, we could ascertain the reasonable test results of the KRRI large triaxial testing system.

In railroad operation, turnout is the device designed to provide very critical functions of moving the train to the neighboring rail. It's the only movable section among the rail and track equipment, which has a complicated structure and as rapid movement between the wheel and rail during operation is unavoidable, the safety and the vibration caused by the impact load of the passing train becomes always the major concern. Response to rail vibration tends to vary depending on physical properties of the rail, rail base and the ground, making it difficult to estimate the quantitative outcome through the measurement. Thus, experimental or empirical approach, rather than an analytic method, has been more commonly employed to deal with the ground vibration. To predict the vibration of the turnout, an experimental value and the measured values are applied in parallel to the factors with a high degree of uncertainty. This study hence was intended to compare and analyze the vibration values measured at the crossing part of manganese turnout by type of train and turnout and distance, as well as predict the intensity of vibration generated at the crossing part of manganese turnout when tilting train accelerates.

The carrying capacity of existing concrete structures is evaluated by the measured data from displacement and strain gauges for given loads and the results of numerical analysis that are compared with the measured ones. Consequently, this process could be accomplished in doing the direct measurement of residual stress on existing concrete. This study is concerned with the development of IITC (Instrumented Indentation Technique for Concrete) system which is based on the experimental stress analysis technique using non-destructive test method to evaluate the residual stress of concrete structures depending on the types of applied loadings in analysing indentation load - indentation depth curve derived experimentally on concrete surface. As a result, in this paper, almost all of systematized H/W and S/W were newly developed to estimate the residual stresses of concrete structures. Thus, the creation of new experimental equations for deriving residual stresses and automatical calculations of residual stresses using the empirical formula can lead to evaluate the structural resistances conveniently in the structures from construction phase to maintenance stage.
A hydraulic tensile test machine (HSTM) is one of the devices used to obtain the flow stress of a material during high-speed elongation. This paper first describes some features of a newly built HSTM. The improvement histories of the upper and lower jigs, which are the most vital parts of the HSTM, are also presented. We have frequently witnessed test failures with 1st generation jigs and specimens due to slip between the jig and specimen. 2nd generation jigs provide more stable test results, but the use of a longer upper jig induces excessive vibration and consequently makes it difficult to attach an environment chamber. 3rd generation jigs have some advances in terms of the symmetric fastening between the upper jig and specimen, as well as an exemption from direct contact between the lower jig and specimen. The performance of an environment chamber is verified by high and low temperature tests. A high-speed displacement measurement system is introduced based on a high-speed camera and motion-tracking software with aid of a surface grid device for the specimen.

Existing LDMOS power amplifier that used class-AB and doherty system shows 55% of efficiency in 60MHz narrow band. Because RRH has been applied to power amplifier at base station. It is required that over 100MHz expanded band and more than 60% high efficiency power amplifier. In this paper we designed class-J power amplifier using LDMOS FET which has over 60% high efficiency characteristic in 200MHz. The output matching circuit of designed class-J power amplifier has been optimized to contain pure reactance at second harmonic load and has low quality factor Q. As a measurement result of the amplifier, when we input continuous wave signal, we checked 62~70% of power added efficiency(PAE) in 2.06~2.2GHz including WCDMA frequency as a 10W class-J power amplifier.
The Ting Kau Bridge in Hong Kong is a cable-stayed bridge comprising two main spans and two side spans. The bridge deck is supported by three towers, an end pier and an abutment. Each of the three towers consists of a single reinforced concrete mast strengthened by transverse cables and struts. The bridge deck is supported by four inclined planes of cables emanating from anchorages at the tower tops. In view of the heavy traffic on the bridge, and threats from typhoons and earthquakes originated in areas nearby, the dynamic behaviour of long-span cable-supported bridges in the region is always an important consideration in their design. Baseline finite element models of various levels of sophistication have been built not only to match the bridge geometry and cable forces specified on the as-constructed drawings but also to be calibrated using the vibration measurement data captured by the Wind and Structural Health Monitoring System. This paper further describes the analysis of axle loading data, as well as the generation of random axle loads and simulation of vibrations of the bridge using the finite element models. Various factors affecting the vehicular loading on the bridge will also be examined.

In 22.9[kV]-y distribution systems, underground cables are provided with multiple-point ground in which each coaxial-neutral line of the distribution cable lines(A, B, C phases) is 3-wire common grounded. In the underground cable distribution systems, circulating current flows in the coaxial-neutral lines and its magnitude amounts to about $40{\sim}50[%]$ load currents, even though loads are balanced. Power loss due to the circulating current consequently reaches to about 76[%] total losses occurred in all conductor lines. This power loss provokes additional temperature rise of the underground cable lines and finally results in 20[%] reduction of the current capacity of the cables. This paper presents a new ground method to overcome such a problem. The proposed method eliminates the circulating current flowing in the coaxial-neutral line effectively. Measurement results confirmed from the practical site-test show validity and effectiveness of this research.

Taipei 101 Tower, which has 101 stories with height of 508 m, is located in Taipei where typhoons and earthquakes commonly occur. It is currently the second tallest building in the world. Therefore, the dynamic performance of the super-tall building under strong wind actions requires particular attentions. In this study, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) integrated with a new inflow turbulence generator and a new sub-grid scale (SGS) model was conducted to simulate the wind loads on the super-tall building. Three-dimensional finite element model of Taipei 101 Tower was established and used to evaluate the wind-induced responses of the high-rise structure based on the simulated wind forces. The numerical results were found to be consistent with those measured from a vibration monitoring system installed in the building. Furthermore, the equivalent static wind loads on the building, which were computed by the time-domain and frequency-domain analysis, respectively, were in satisfactory agreement with available wind tunnel testing results. It has been demonstrated through the validation studies that the numerical framework presented in this paper, including the recommended SGS model, the inflow turbulence generation technique and associated numerical treatments, is a useful tool for evaluation of the wind loads and wind-induced responses of tall buildings.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the present study was to examine changes caused by asymmetric bag carrying methods to carry the bag with one shoulder only to plantar pressure during walking. METHODS: Twenty three normal adults without any gait problem participated in the present study. Experimental conditions used consisted of walking without carrying any bag(condition 1), walking wearing a bag on both shouders (condition 2), and walking wearing a bag on the right shoulder(condition 3) and the weight of the bag was set to 15% of each subject's body weight. All the subjects were instructed to participate in all experiments under these three conditions and plantar pressures were measured from the subjects' right and left feet using an F-scan system while the subjects were walking under the three conditions. To analyze the measured plantar pressure, the sole was divided into seven areas (Hallux, Toe, Met1, Met23, Met45, Mid foot and Heel) and maximum plantar pressures in individual areas were measured. RESULTS: The results of measurement of plantar pressures under three walking conditions did not show significant changes in any areas of the left and right feet except for the mid foot area of the right food. The asymmetry between the left and right feet was examined and the results showed significant differences only in area Met23 under condition 2 and did not show significant differences in any other areas. CONCLUSION: On comprehensively considering the results of the present study, it could be seen that asymmetric bag carrying did not have large effects on changes in plantar pressure during walking compared to symmetric carrying. The reason for this is considered to be posture adjusting mechanisms against load positions.
The process of designing and building a human-powered aircraft (HPA) and its performance analysis are introduced in this paper. Light Bros, the Chungnam National University HPA team, has developed Volante, a HPA, to compete in the 2012 exhibition of human-powered aircraft hosted by Korea Aerospace Research Institute. The power train system is composed of a two-blade propeller and Bevel-type gear and the ground test bed is built to simulate the operation. A study has been made to find a efficient propeller based upon the test result of thrust and power available from a pilot under various propeller conditions and running time. The load and structural analysis is conducted for the glider-shaped wing made of composite material which has very high aspect ratio. The spar is analyzed using finite element modeling followed by the comparison of its displacement and strain on structural test. As a result, the performance and safety is confirmed.
