Development of Short-Term Load Forecasting Method by Analysis of Load Characteristics during Chuseok Holiday (추석 연휴 전력수요 특성 분석을 통한 단기전력 수요예측 기법 개발)

  • The accurate short-term load forecasting is essential for the efficient power system operation and the system marginal price decision of the electricity market. So far, errors of load forecasting for Chuseok Holiday are very big compared with forecasting errors for the other special days. In order to improve the accuracy of load forecasting for Chuseok Holiday, selection of input data, the daily normalized load patterns and load forecasting model are investigated. The efficient data selection and daily normalized load pattern based on fuzzy linear regression model is proposed. The proposed load forecasting method for Chuseok Holiday is tested in recent 5 years from 2006 to 2010, and improved the accuracy of the load forecasting compared with the former research.

  • Short-term electric load forecasting of power systems is essential for the power system stability and the efficient power system operation. An accurate load forecasting scheme improves the power system security and saves some economic losses in power system operations. Due to scarcity of the historical same type of holiday load data, most big electric load forecasting errors occur on load forecasting for the holidays. The fuzzy linear regression model has showed good accuracy for the load forecasting of the holidays. However, it is not good enough to forecast the load of the election day. The concept of the load variation rate for the load forecasting of the election day is introduced. The proposed algorithm shows its good accuracy in that the average percentage error for the short-term 24 hourly loads forecasting of the election days is 2.27%. The accuracy of the proposed 24 hourly loads forecasting of the election days is compared with the fuzzy linear regression method. The proposed method gives much better forecasting accuracy with overall average error of 2.27%, which improved about average error of 2% as compared to the fuzzy linear regression method.

  • This paper proposes a combined very-short-term and short-term multi-variate time-series model for 24 hour load forecasting. First, the best model for very-short-term and short-term load forecasting is selected by considering the least error value, and then they are combined by the optimal forecasting time. The actual load data of industry complex is used to show the effectiveness of the proposed model. As a result the load forecasting accuracy of the combined model has increased more than a single model for 24 hour load forecasting.

  • This paper proposes an improved algorithm of the daily peak load forecasting for Korean Thanksgiving Day and the Lunar New Year's day. So far, many studies on the short-term load forecasting have been made to improve the accuracy of the load forecasting. However, the large errors of the load forecasting occur i case of Korean Thanksgiving Day and the Lunar New Year's Day. In order to reduce the errors of the load forecasting, the fuzzy linear regression method is introduced and a good selection method of the past load pattern is presented. Test results show that the proposed algorithm improves the accuracy of the load forecasting.

  • An accurate load forecasting is essential for economics and stability power system operation. Due to high relationship between the electric power load and the electric power price, the participants of the competitive power market are very interested in load forecasting. The percentage errors of load forecasting for holidays is relatively large. In order to improve the accuarcy of load forecasting for holidays, this paper proposed load forecasting method for holidays using a fuzzy least squares linear regression algorithm. The proposed algorithm is tested for load forecasting for holidays in 1996, 1997, and 2000. The test results show that the proposed algorithm is better than the algorithm using fuzzy linear regression.

  • In this paper, a short-term load forecasting expert system considering the load variation due to the change in temperature is presented. The change in temperature is an important load variation factor that varies the normal load pattern. The conventional load forecasting methods by artificial neural networks have used the technique where the temperature variables were included in the input neurons of artificial neural networks. However, simply adding the input units of temperature data may make the forecasting accuracy worse, since the accuracy of the load forecasting in this method depends on the accuracy of weather forecasting. In this paper, the fuzzy expert system that modifies the forecasted load using fuzzy rules representing the relations of load and temperature is presented and compared with a conventional load forecasting technique. In the test case of 1991, the proposed model provided a more accurate forecast than the conventional technique.

  • Load forecasting is essential in the electricity market for the participants to manage the market efficiently and stably. A wide variety of techniques/algorithms for load forecasting has been reported in many literatures. These techniques are as follows: multiple linear regression, stochastic time series, general exponential smoothing, state space and Kalman filter, knowledge-based expert system approach (fuzzy method and artificial neural network). These techniques have improved the accuracy of the load forecasting. In recent 10 years, many researchers have focused on artificial neural network and fuzzy method for the load forecasting. In this paper, we propose an algorithm of a hybrid load forecasting method using fuzzy linear regression and general exponential smoothing and considering the sensitivities of the temperature. In order to consider the lower load of weekends and Monday than weekdays, fuzzy linear regression method is proposed. The temperature sensitivity is used to improve the accuracy of the load forecasting through the relation of the daily load and temperature. And the normal load of weekdays is easily forecasted by general exponential smoothing method. Test results show that the proposed algorithm improves the accuracy of the load forecasting in 1996.

  • This study presents the electrical load forecasting and error correction method using a real building load pattern, and the way to manage the energy storage system with forecasting results for economical load operation. To make a unique pattern of target load, we performed the Hierarchical clustering that is one of the data mining techniques, defined load pattern(group) and forecasted the demand load according to the clustering result of electrical load through the previous study. In this paper, we propose the new reference demand for improving a predictive accuracy of load demand forecasting. In addition we study an error correction method for response of load events in demand load forecasting, and verify the effects of proposed correction method through EMS scheduling simulation with load forecasting correction.

A Study on the Load Forecasting Methods of Peak Electricity Demand Controller (최대수요전력 관리 장치의 부하 예측에 관한 연구)

  • Demand Controller is a load control device that monitor the current power consumption and calculate the forecast power to not exceed the power set by consumer. Accurate demand forecasting is important because of controlling the load use the way that sound a warning and then blocking the load when if forecasted demand exceed the power set by consumer. When if consumer with fluctuating power consumption use the existing forecasting method, management of demand control has the disadvantage of not stable. In this paper, load forecasting of the unit of seconds using the Exponential Smoothing Methods, ARIMA model, Kalman Filter is proposed. Also simulation of load forecasting of the unit of the seconds methods and existing forecasting methods is performed and analyzed the accuracy. As a result of simulation, the accuracy of load forecasting methods in seconds is higher.

  • High accuracy of the load forecasting for power systems improves the security of the power system and generation cost. However, the forecasting problem is difficult to handle due to the nonlinear and the random-like behavior of system loads as well as weather conditions and variation of economical environments. So far. many studies on the problem have been made to improve the prediction accuracy using deterministic, stochastic, knowledge based and artificial neural net(ANN) method. In the conventional load forecasting method, the load forecasting maximum error occurred for the holidays on Saturday and Monday. In order to reduce the load forecasting error of the daily peak load for the holidays on Saturday and Monday, fuzzy concept and linear regression theory have been adopted into the load forecasting problem. The proposed algorithm shows its good accuracy that the average percentage errors are 2.11% in 1996 and 2.84% in 1997.
