  • Previously study on structural design of the main wing of the twenty-seat class WIG(Wing in Ground Effect) craft. In the final design, three spars construction was selected for safety in the critical flight load, and the Carbon-Epoxy material was selected for lightness and structural stability. In this study, the forced vibration analysis was performed on the composite main wing structure of the twenty-seat class WIG craft with two-stroke pusher type reciprocating engine. The vibration analysis based on the finite element method was performed using a commercial FEM code, MSC/NASTRAN. Excitations for the frequency response analysis were assumed as the H-mode(horizontal mode), the V-mode(vertical mode) and the X-mode(twisted mode) which are typical main vibration modes of engine. And excitations for the transient response analysis were assumed as the L-mode(longitudinal mode) with the oscillating propeller thrust which occurs in operation. According to the result of forced vibration analysis, structural design was modified to reduce the vibrations.

  • This paper presents a robust-optimal control strategy to improve the output-voltage error-tracking and control capability of a DC-DC boost converter. The proposed strategy employs an optimized Fractional-order Proportional-Integral (FoPI) controller that serves to eliminate oscillations, overshoots, undershoots and steady-state fluctuations. In order to significantly improve the error convergence-rate during a transient response, the FoPI controller is augmented with a pre-stage nonlinear error-modulator. The modulator combines the variations in the error and error-derivative via the signed-distance method. Then it feeds the aggregated-signal to a smooth sigmoidal control surface constituting an optimized hyperbolic secant function. The error-derivative is evaluated by measuring the output-capacitor current in order to compensate the hysteresis effect rendered by the parasitic impedances. The resulting modulated-signal is fed to the FoPI controller. The fixed controller parameters are meta-heuristically selected via a Particle-Swarm-Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The proposed control scheme exhibits rapid transits with improved damping in its response which aids in efficiently rejecting external disturbances such as load-transients and input-fluctuations. The superior robustness and time-optimality of the proposed control strategy is validated via experimental results.

  • In this study, the shock resistance of a gas turbine package subjected to a shock load caused by non-contact underwater explosion was investigated using numerical analysis. To perform shock analysis, the time-history shock load was calculated according to BV-043 (German Navy Regulation). The direct transient response analysis in the time domain for the simplified Whole Engine Model (WEM) was performed using the calculated shock load. In addition, the structural integrity of a detailed model was evaluated by considering the shock load transferred to each component. As a result, it was confirmed that the safety factor was at least 1.0 as compared with the reference stress. Finally, the structural and functional integrity of the Engine Management System (EMS) of the gas turbine package was verified through an actual shock test.

  • In order to achieve the high quality output voltage of single-phase voltage source inverters, in this paper an Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (ACSMC) is proposed. Firstly, the dynamics model of the single-phase inverter with lumped uncertainty including parameter variations and external disturbances is derived. Then, the conventional Sliding Mode Control (SMC) and Complementary Sliding Mode Control (CSMC) are introduced separately. However, when system parameters vary or external disturbance occurs, the controlling performance such as tracking error, response speed et al. always could not satisfy the requirements based on the SMC and CSMC methods. Consequently, an ACSMC is developed. The ACSMC is composed of a CSMC term, a compensating control term and a filter parameters estimator. The compensating control term is applied to compensate for the system uncertainties, the filter parameters estimator is used for on-line LC parameter estimation by the proposed adaptive law. The adaptive law is derived using the Lyapunov theorem to guarantee the closed-loop stability. In order to decrease the control system cost, an inductor current estimator is developed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controller is validated through Matlab/Simulink and experiments on a prototype single-phase inverter test bed with a TMS320LF28335 DSP. The simulation and experimental results show that compared to the conventional SMC and CSMC, the proposed ACSMC control strategy achieves more excellent performance such as fast transient response, small steady-state error, and low total harmonic distortion no matter under load step change, nonlinear load with inductor parameter variation or external disturbance.

  • The dynamic performance of air foil bearings relies on a coupling between a thin air film and an elastic foil structure. A number of successful analytical techniques to predict dynamic performance have been developed. However, the evaluation of its dynamic characteristic is still not enough because of the mechanical complexity of the foil structure and strong nonlinear behavior of friction force. This work presents a nonlinear transient analysis method to predict dynamic performance of foil bearings. In this method, time dependent Reynolds equation is used to calculate pressure distribution and a finite element method is used to model the bump foil structure. The analysis is treated with a direct implicit integration technique that can handle nonlinear problems and the stick-slip algorithm is used to consider friction force. Using this method the response to the mass unbalance excitation is investigated for various design parameters and operating conditions. The results of analysis show that foil bearing is very effective on the restriction of vibration at the resonance frequency compared to the rigid surface bearings and the effectiveness depends on the operating conditions, static load and a amount of mass unbalance. In addition, there exist optimum values of friction coefficient, bump foil stiffness and number of circumferential slit with regards to minimizing dynamic response at the resonance frequency. These optimum values are system dependent.

  • A structural dynamic analysis can be divided into a time domain analysis and a frequency domain analysis. The time domain analysis makes use of a direct integration method or a mode superposition method and the frequency domain analysis applies a DFT method. Generally the DFT method is more effective method in case of calculating response of periodic excitation. But in case of transient excitation exact solution can not be acquired. So, by modifying the response or increasing the period accuracy of solution can be enhanced. Accordingly this study analyzed dynamic responses of structures under aperiodic moving load in time domain and frequence domain. Consequently it is concluded that exact solution would be get enough using DFT method by increasing the duration of free vibration or modifying the dynamic response.

  • In many cases, open-type plate breakwaters use plates with multiple holes; the holes serve as energy dissipaters and weight reducers. Because of the multi-holes configuration, stress concentration should be considered during the design process. Among several design loading conditions, the loads from a possible collision with a man-made vessel or other unexpected events many damage a multi-perforated steel plate. In that case, the structural behavior of a multi-perforated steel plate is quite significant, and is not well understood. This study presents a collision analysis for a multi-perforated steel plate. First, four different perforation topologies (three with circles and one with squares) were selected to investigate the effect of different hole shapes on the structural response. Second, the wave force at a specific site was calculated and loaded onto a steel plate as a static load. The static stresses were used for reference values. Third, two rigid body impacters (cubical & cylindrical) were applied to the steel plates to investigate the transient stress responses. In addition, two different impacting angles ($45^{\circ}\;&\;90^{\circ}$) were selected to investigate the angle effect. From the collision analysis, the significance of the transient stresses was emphasized.

  • In this paper, the development of a cost-effective active power filter/uninterruptible power supply (APF/UPS) system with seamless mode transfer is described. The proposed scheme employs a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) voltage-source inverter and has two operational modes. First, when the source voltage is normal, the system operates as an APF, which compensates for the harmonics and power factor while boosting the DC-link voltage to be ready for the disturbance, without an additional DC charging circuit. A simple algorithm to detect the load current harmonics is also proposed. Second, when the source voltage is out of the normal range (owing to sag, swell, or outage), it operates a UPS, which controls the output voltage constantly by discharging the DC-link capacitor. Furthermore, a seamless transfer method for the single-phase inverter between the APF mode and the UPS mode is also proposed, in which an IGBT switch with diodes is used as a static bypass switch. Dissimilar to a conventional SCR switch, the IGBT switch can implement a seamless mode transfer. During the UPS operation, when the source voltage returns to the normal range, the system operates as an APF. The proposed system has good transient and steady-state response characteristics. The APF, charging circuit, and UPS systems are implemented in one inverter system. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is investigated with simulated and experimental results for a prototype APF/UPS system rated at 3 kVA.

  • This research analyzes bucket elevator roller chain pins by finite element (FE) analysis and static structural analysis for a lightweight pin design. The stress distribution of light weight roller chain pins under static load is analyzed for safety factors and damping effect. The results show that the stress distribution is higher on the plate than on the bush pin. In order to compare experimental and FE analysis results, a light weight design approach was used to produce a prototype base pin. Because the inner diameter of the pin was different, the impact damping effect was most appropriate when the inner diameter was 34.05 mm, and it is used as basic research data on the impact of the roller chain and sprocket.

  • The available power generated from the FC power plant may not be sufficient to meet sustained load demand, peak demand or transient events. An supercapacitor bank(SCB) can supply a large burst of power, but it cannot store a significant amount of energy. The combined use of FC and SCB has the potential for the better energy efficiency, reducing the cost of FC technology and improved dynamic response. In this paper, A single PEMFC and PEMFC operated in parallel with a SC bank are presented, A new dynamic model of PEMFC system, the converter and controller has been developed for stand-alone applications. The simulation results are presented using Matlab/Simulink, and SimPowerSystems environments. It is confirmed that the results show a good performance and stable DC-link voltage for proposed dynamic and mathematical models developed for the combined FC/SCB.
