Resident Assessment Instrument MDS-HC(2.0version) was used for data collection. Data analysis for descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and multiple regression was made by SAS 6.2 Results: 34.7% of the subject had hearing impairment and 64.3% had visual impairment Among IADL. one half of them were dependent in ordinary house work and meal preparation. In the case of ADL. 13.9% of subjects were dependent in bathing and 8.9% in personal hygiene. There was significant difference in IADL performance by visual and hearing impairment On the other hand, ADL performance showed the significant difference. only in the case of hearing impairment. As the result of input of visual and hearing impairment in the process of regression. variances were increased from 3% to 11%. Conclusions: Large proportions of older people living in the community have visual and hearing impairment. It could be confirmed that hearing and vision were significant factors influencing on IADL performance of older people. Intervention and support policy for elderly needs to focus on improvement of visual and hearing impairment.

Successful rehabilitation with respect to the activities of daily living (ADL) requires accurate and effective assessment and training. A number of studies have emphasized the requirement for rehabilitation methods that are both relevant to the patients real world environment, and that can also be transferred to other daily living tasks. Virtual reality (VR) has a many advantage over other ADL rehabilitation techniques, and offers the potential to develop a human performance testing and training environment. Therefore, in this study, the virtual supermarket was developed and the possibility of using a VR system to assess and train cognitive ability in ADL investigated. This study demonstrates that, VR technology offers great promise in the field of ADL training.

Data was collected using questionnaires and measuring health risk indicators such as blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, blood sugar, body fat rate. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Result: The health promoting lifestyle performance showed a significant negative correlation with health risk indicators and depression. There was a significant negative correlation between activities of daily living and depression. Conclusion: Health promoting lifestyle which focus on regular physical check-up, medication, diet management, exercise, smoking cessation, drinking abstinence, and stress management should be developed to improve health risk indicator and depression of the in-house stroke patients.
The proper placement of work-coil is needed for heating the interior of an IH rice cooker uniformly. It is possible that the flavor of rice is better by heating it through the optimal placement of the work-coil of the IH rice cooker. This paper describes the procedure and the result of finding the optimal placement of the work-coil by analyzing the properties of the rising temperatures of the interior through Taguchi Method.

This study aims to evaluate the humidity control performance of low-priced generic ceramic panels that are used to control humidity. Temperature and humidity are monitored by using 'Living Lab' and the change of indoor relative humidity is measured and analyzed. According to the results of the study, the indoor relative humidity of rooms installed with ceramic panels was found to be low compared to that of living rooms by 2.2%RH (test period) and 3.2%RH (daily). In the case of maximum relative humidity, rooms installed with ceramic panels were found to be low by 6.9%RH. The results are attributable to the humidity absorption of ceramic panels. Accordingly, future ceramic panels need the improvement of performance and an appropriate construction area should be derived depending on indoor space.

Purpose : The purpose of this pilot study was to examine the effects of task-oriented training program on balance, activities of daily living(ADL) performance, and self-efficacy in stroke patients. Method : Two subjects with stroke in experimental group participated in the task-oriented training program, while two subjects with stroke in control group received traditional rehabilitation therapy for 4 weeks, 30 minutes per session, four times per week. The task-oriented training program consisted of four tasks with 4 difficulty levels. In two groups, balance was examined with using the Berg Balance Scale(BBS), ADL performance was examined with using the Modified Barthel Index(MBI), and Self Efficacy was evaluated with using the Self-Efficacy scale(SES) before and after 4-week training. Result : After 4 weeks training, all scores of measurement variables increased in both the experimental group and the control group, but the average rates of change differed between the two groups. After the training program, the scores of BBS, MBI, and SES in experimental group increased to 11.4%, 9.9%, 15.4%, respectively than pre-training. Conclusion : According to the results of this study, task-oriented training program might be proposed as a intervention to improve balance ability, ADL performance, and self-efficacy in stroke patients.
Objectives : To evaluate the effects of a strengthening exercise program on the physical activity, activities of daily living(ADL), social behavior and functional performance of the elderly in a home for the aged. Methods : We administered a survey questionnaire that consisted of questions to establish general characteristics, health habits and status, physical activity, ADL, and social behavior. Additionally, a physical fitness and functional performance examination was peformed on subjects who were 65 years old or older. Study subjects numbered 33 in the experimental group and 35 in the control group. For intervention, we used a strengthening exercise program of the upper and lower limbs for 12 weeks(5 times/week) using dumbbells and lead-packed weights. Results : After the strengthening exercise program, the scores of physical activity and social behavior were significantly higher than the control group and the before exercise measurements. Moreover, the variables of functional performance were significantly higher than in the control group or the before exercise records. Conclusion : These results Indicate that a strengthening exercise program can improve the score of physical activity, ADL and social behavior, as well as decrease the time(sec) of functional performance of the elderly in a home for the aged.
