Fabrication of Electrically Switchable Bragg Gratings of The Transmission Mode From Holographic Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystals

  • Holographic transmission gratings were performed by an Ar-laser( ${\lambda}$=514nm) intensity, the ratio fo LC contents to the surfactant. The addition of the surfactant to the LC and pre-polymer systems causes the droplet to maintain the ideal size at the high fraction(over 40wt%) of the LC contents that induce the films to be fabricated with high diffraction efficiency than that of no surfactant series. The image of these films was examined using a charge coupled device (CCD). We also studied the angular selectivity plots which support the important role in the multiplexer channel (MUX). Eventually, we showed the reconstructive optical image recorded in this transmission mode of HPDLCs.

4-cyano-3,5-difluorophenol의 새로운 합성법 (A facile synthesis of 4-cyano-3,5-difluorophenol)

  • 액정재료의 중간체로 사용되는 4-cyano-3,5-difluorophenol를 3,5-difluorophenol을 출발물질로 하여 요오드 치환반응 및 시안화학반응으로 이루어지는 2 단계로 합성하였다. 생성된 4-cyano-3,5-difluorophenol은 분광학적 방법으로 분석하여 표준 시료와 비교 확인되었다.

  • In an inclined enclosure with the upper part cooled and the lower part heated, quantitative data of the temperature and velocity are obtained simultaneously using thermo-sensitive liquid crystals. Experimental results are Presented for Pr=909. aspect ratios of 1/14. 2/14 and 3/14, angle of inclination, 0$\leq$$\theta$$\leq$45 to the horizontal line. The numerical results are obtained in the same conditions as experiments by the finite volume method and its results are compared with experimental results. It is found that the number of cell is decreased with increasing the angle of inclination. and a unicell is formed at nearby 6=30$^{circ}$ which is not affected by the aspect ratio.

  • Experimentally, the aligned direction of AFLCs in electro-optic cells having both the substrates rubbed along the same direction is skewed by a few degrees from the rebbing direction. To explain why, we proposed "Torsional Rigid Body Model" and interpreted their skewing angle as the action of short pitch with the large shear stress. That is, the azimuthal an anchoring strength (about 35 dyn/cm) in the cell is much larger than the maximum shear stress (about 10$^{-6}$ dyn/cm) for the original pitch and so forbids the optic axis to skew. On the side hand, the strength is smaller than the maximum shear stress (about 42 dyn/cm) for short pitch and then allows the optic axis to skew.

  • In this study, the vertical type LPE system has been developed by fully hand-made. The temperature fluctuation and minimum cooling rate of this LPE system are within $\pm$0.05$^{\circ}C$ and 0.15$^{\circ}C$/min, respectively. It is considered that these properties are enough to grow III-V semiconductor compounds single crystals by liquid phase epitaxy method. Futhermore in this study. 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ GaInAsP/InP single crystal growing has been carried out by this system. It has been obtained that the growing rate was about 0.72${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/min for InP binary layer and 0.36${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/min for GaInAsP quarternary layer under 0.6$^{\circ}C$/min cooling rate condition.

Optimization of the growth of $CaF_2$ crystals by model experiments and numerical simulation

  • High purity single crystalline calcium fluoride ($CaF_2$) has excellent optical transmission characteristics down to deep UV and is therefore selected as the main optical material for the next generation of lithography apparatus operating at wavelength of 157 nm. The growth of large sized $CaF_2$ single crystals with the required properties for this optical application can be achieved only by optimizing the crystal growth process by the aid of numerical simulation. This needs especially a precise calculation of the heat transport and temperature distribution in the solid and liquid $CaF_2$ under crystal growth conditions. As $CaF_2$ is considered to be semitransparent, the internal radiative heat transfer in $CaF_2$ plays an decisive role in the simulation of the heat transport. On the other hand it is very difficult to obtain quantitative experimental data for evaluating numerical models as $CaF_2$ is extremely corrosive at high temperatures. In this work we present a newly developed experimental technique to perform temperature measurements in $CaF_2$-crystal as well as in the melt under conditions of crystal growth process. These experimental results are compared to calculated temperature data, which were obtained by using different numerical models concerning the internal heat transfer in semitransparent $CaF_2$. It will be shown, that an advanced model, which was developed by the authors, gives a much better agreement with experimental data as a standard model, which was taken from the literature.

Bacillus thuringiensis BT17 균주를 이용한 인시목 유충 방제용 미생물 살충제 생산 (Production of Microbial Insecticide Using Bacillus thuringiensis BT17 for the Control of Lepidopteran Larvae)

  • 살충성 독소 결정을 생산하는 Bacillus thuringiensis BT17 균주를 분리하였으며, 16S rRNA 유전자 분석 결과 B. thuringiensis serovar colmeri로 동정하였다. BT17 균주는 인시목 유충에 대해 살충성을 보이는 결정성 독소를 soybean meal과 skim milk를 포함하는 배지에서 $30^{\circ}C$, 280 rpm으로 36시간 진탕배양하였을 때 효율적으로 생산하였다. 200 L fermentor에서 배양하였을 때 균수는 24시간에 최대가 되었으나 독소 결정의 수는 36시간까지 증가하였다. 액상의 미생물 살충제 제품을 제조하였으며, 배양액을 $20^{\circ}C$에서 3개월간 보관시 독소 결정의 수는 보관 초기보다 2배까지 증가하였다. BT17 균주가 포함된 살충제 제품의 효능은 파밤나방보다 배추좀나방에서 좋았으며 동물에 대한 독성은 거의 없었다.

상평형도를 이용한 Mn-Zn 페라이트 단결정 조성 조절 (Composition-control of Mn-Zn Ferrite Single Crystal Using a Phase Diagram)

  • Mn-Zn 페라이트 단결정 성장시 일반적인 Bridgman법에서 조성변동 문제가 발생한다. 상평형도를 이용하여 원료 조성을 A, B로 분리하여 조성 B 원료를 단결정 성장 속도와 동일하게 투입함으로써 조성변동 문제를 해결하였다. 실험변수를 바탕으로 A조성을 52 mol% $Fe_2O_3$, 30 mol% MnO, 18 mol% ZnO로 선정하였고, 원하는 단결정 조성인 B 조성을 53 mol% $Fe_2O_3$, 28.5 mol% MnO, 18.5 mol% ZnO로 선정하여 직경 60mm, 길이 300mm 단결정을 성장시켰다. 성장된 단결정은 조성 B 원료 정제가 투입된 30~270mm 부위에서 조성 변도 없이 균일하게 B 조성과 비슷한 조성을 가졌으며, 이에 따라 주파수 5 MHz에서의 투자율값도 균일하게 600 근처로 높게 나타났다.

  • 콜로이드는 거시적으로 균일한 성질을 갖는 입자분산계이다. 콜로이드 입자는 다양한 입자분산계의 모델로서 많은 기초연구가 이루어져 왔을 뿐만 아니라, 산업적으로 다양하게 응용이 되었다. 최근에는 나노-바이오 관련 연구에 적용되어 새롭게 각광을 받고 있는 나노 소재중 하나이다. 본 총설에서는 입자 분산계의 정의 및 분류에 대해 간략히 기술하고, 나노-바이오 응용을 위한 표면 성질 및 표면 개질방법에 대해 다룰 것이다. 또한, 기존의 구형의 입자분산계에서 더 나아가, 모양과 크기가 제어된 입자 분산계의 합성에 관한 최근 결과를 소개하였다. 마지막으로, 콜로이드 입자의 나노-바이오 응용분야로서, 금속 콜로이드 잉크와, 3차원 콜로이드 결정을 활용한 나노-바이오 센서, 및 2차원 콜로이드 구조를 이용한 패턴제작과 응용 연구에 대해 살펴보았다.

Elution profiles of metronidazole from calcium sulfate beads

  • Background: Antibiotic beads are used to treat local bacterial infections by delivering high drug concentrations to infected tissue. Objectives: This study examined the elution characteristics of metronidazole from metronidazole-calcium sulfate (MCa) and metronidazole-calcium-potassium sulfate (MCaK) beads over 20 days and the antibacterial efficacy of the beads after storage. Methods: The MCa and MCaK beads were prepared by mixing 250 mg of metronidazole and 10 g of calcium sulfate hemihydrate with water and a 3% potassium sulfate solution, respectively. The beads were placed in phosphate-buffered saline for the elution study. The metronidazole eluents were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. The microstructures were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the antimicrobial activity was evaluated by a microbioassay. Results: For the 20-day study, the total amount of metronidazole released was greater in the MCa beads than in the MCaK beads by 6.61 ± 0.48 mg (89.11% ± 3.04%) and 4.65 ± 0.36 mg (73.11% ± 4.38%), respectively. The amounts of eluted drugs from the MCa and MCaK beads were higher than the minimum inhibitory concentration at 0.5 ㎍/mL against anaerobic bacteria at both 20 days and 14 days. SEM showed that calcium crystals on the outer surface had dissolved after elution, and thinner calcium crystals were prominent in the MCaK beads. The MCa and MCaK beads exhibited antibacterial activity after setting, followed by storage at room temperature or 4℃ for 21 days. Conclusions: The MCa beads could release more drug than the MCaK beads, but all eluted metronidazole amounts were effective in controlling bacterial infections. Both metronidazole beads could be stored at ambient temperature or in a refrigerator.
