The Relationship between Leadership Life Skills, Social Competence, and Self-Regulation Ability of Scientifically Gifted and Regular Middle School Students (과학영재와 일반학생의 리더십 생활기술, 사회적 능력 및 자기조절능력 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between leadership life skills, social competence and self-regulation ability of scientifically gifted and regular middle school students. The subjects for this study were 351 middle school students in Busan. The results of this study were as follows: First, scientifically gifted students had higher significant differences in leadership life skills, social competence and self-regulation ability than regular middle school students. Second, there were significant positive correlations between leadership life skills, social competence and self-regulation ability. Third, social competence and self-regulation ability affected leadership life skills. This suggests that social competence and self-regulation ability are important variables to develop and improve leadership life skills of gifted students.

Self-Efficacy and Social Support as Predictors of Adjustment to College Students (지역 대학생의 자기효능감과 사회적지지가 대학생활 적응에 미치는 영향)

  • Self-efficacy and social supports are important variable influencing adjustment to college life. This study aims to identify the factors influencing adjustment to college life. Data were collected from 265 usable questionnaires among college students in Pyeongtek University. Results of a factor analysis yielded three dimensions of self-efficacy which were ability to start promotion/ social ability/ ability to carry out activities/ability to overcome hate experiences/ social sustainability. And results of factor analysis also yielded three dimensions of social supports which were family, friends, and professor supports. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that social ability/ ability to carry out activities/ability to overcome hate experiences and all of social support factors affected significantly for adjustment to college life. And female and attitude for students' major had a positive affect on adjustment to college life. Results suggested that self-efficacy, social supports, and aptitude for students' major should be considered in college management policy.

The relationship between masticatory ability and the quality of life oral health- related using OHIP-14 of the elderly (노인들의 저작 능력과 OHIP-14를 이용한 구강건강 관련 삶의 질과의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between masticatory ability and oral health-related quality of life using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) of the elderly. Total 195 elderly subjects were assessed for subjective masticatory ability, objective masticatory ability and OHIP-14 concerned with quality of life. When masticatory ability is low, the odds ratio(OR) of the quality of life is worse was increased. After adjusted age, residence, education, denture, odds ratio of subjective masticatory ability was 2.42(p<0.05) increased and odds ratio of objective masticatory ability was 7.58(p<0.001) increased. This study showed significant association between masticatory ability and the total OHIP-14 score of the quality of life of the elderly. Masticatory ability can affect quality of life oral health-related in elderly. While following up on various studies were carried out as a long-term, I hope it will be of help in improving the quality of life of the elderly with maintaining a healthy oral health.

Influence of Interpersonal Ability on College Life Adjustment in Freshman in Nursing College: Mediation Effect of Empathy Ability (간호대학 신입생의 대인관계 능력이 대학생활적응에 미치는 영향: 공감 능력의 매개효과)

  • This study is a descriptive research study aimed at confirming the mediating effect of empathy ability in the relationship between interpersonal ability and adjustment to college life for freshman in nursing college. The study subjects were 179 freshman from the nursing department of four universities. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from June 11 to June 18, 2018. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the interpersonal ability and empathy ability of the nursing college freshman were factors influencing the adjustment to college life, and that the empathy ability had a partial mediating effect in the relationship between the interpersonal ability and the adjustment to college life. These results suggest that it is necessary to develop and apply curriculum and extra-curricular programs that can enhance students' empathy ability as a way to improve the adjustment to college life in the freshman. Therefore, repeated studies including various variables related to college life adjustmente of freshmen in nursing colleges are needed in the future.

Relationship among Knowledge, Attitude, Self-Confidence and Performance Ability on Basic Life Support in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 기본소생술에 대한 지식, 태도, 수행자신감 및 수행능력과의 관계)

  • This study is a descriptive research that aimed to investigate the relationship among the knowledge, attitude, self-confidence, and ability to perform basic life support of nursing students, and to identify the factors affecting their performance ability of basic life support. The subjects in this study were 85 senior nursing students. And a questionnaire survey and an observation assessment for their ability to perform basic life support were conducted. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, Multiple Linear Regression with SPSS WIN 23.0 program. Performance ability on Basic life support was found to be in a significant positive correlation with knowledge, self-confidence. Factors affecting the ability to perform basic life support were knowledge, number of training sessions received, and last training time. Therefore, programs for repetitive basic life support training at 3-month intervals should be developed to maintain the performance ability of basic life support.

The Relationship Between Life-Learning Competency and Self-Directed Learning Ability, Problem-Solving Ability, and Academic Achievement of University Students in the Context of Higher Education

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether respondents showed gender differences in life- learning competency, self-directed learning ability, problem-solving ability, and academic achievement and to identify relationships among variables of university students in the context of higher education. To address those goal, the data set was analyzed that nationally collected from Korea Youth Competency Measurement and International Comparative Research III by National Youth Policy Institute in South Korea. 680 samples were used in the study that were 343 males and 337 females of university students. As results, statistically significant difference was showed in the participants' gender. Male university students were higher score than female university students in All variables. Also, learning agility in life-learning competency was strongly related to self-directed learning ability and problem-solving. Thinking skills in life-learning competency was strongly related to academic achievement in university students in higher education. In terms of learning strategy in the context of higher education, some suggestions have been made for university students.

Factors Influencing Nursing Students' Adjustment to College Life (간호대학생의 대학생활 적응 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to check the stress, stress and coping ability of nursing college students and to identify factors that influence college life adjustment. Method: This study was a descriptive research study to confirm the correlation between stress, stress response, coping ability, and college life adaptation of nursing college students, and to analyze the factors that influence college life adjustment. The data collection period was from August 17 to 23, 2020, for one week, the researcher directly explains the purpose and purpose of the study to 221 nursing college students nationwide, and online surveys to those who have agreed to participate in the study. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS Win 20.0 program. Results: Adaptation to college was negatively correlated with stress (r=-.285, p<.001), stress response (r=-.258, p<.001), and coping ability (r=.512, p<.001) had a positive correlation. The most significant factor influencing the study subjects' adaptation to college life was coping ability (β=.473, p<.001), followed by stress (β=-.185, p=.002) in the order of The explanatory power of the factors affecting the subject's adaptation to college life was 28.9%. Conclusion: As a result of this study, it means that nursing students' adaptation to college life has less stress and stress response, and higher coping ability increases college life adaptation. The factor that influenced the adjustment to college life was the most significant factor, followed by stress. In order for nursing students to adjust to college life smoothly, it is thought that coping measures to reduce stress and stress responses and overcome them are necessary.

The Effects of Information Utilization Ability on Life Satisfaction in the Elderly (노인의 정보 활용능력이 생활만족에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for practical measures to improve life satisfaction through appropriate information utilization ability for the elderly by specifically grasping the effect of information utilization ability of the elderly on life satisfaction. The subjects of this study were 220 elderly people aged 65 and over who live in J city, Chungbuk. In order to examine the effects of the information literacy of the elderly on life satisfaction, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. For statistical analysis, SPSS 20.0 program was used for analysis. The results of this study showed that information technology and information literacy were significant factors affecting life satisfaction among the information literacy abilities of the elderly. This means that the higher the information technology ability and information utilization ability in the information utilization ability of the elderly, the higher the life satisfaction. Especially, information literacy has a greater effect on life satisfaction than information technology ability. However, information provision ability and information criticism ability did not have a significant effect on life satisfaction. Based on the results of this study, policy suggestions are as follows: First, it is necessary to activate information education to improve the information literacy of the elderly. Second, it is necessary to build information infrastructure to improve the information technology ability of the elderly.

Ability of Daily Living, Depression and Quality of Life of the Industrial Accident Disabled (산업재해 장애인의 일상생활 수행능력, 우울 및 삶의 질)

  • The purpose of this study is to Identify the amount of ability of daily living, depression and quality of life and to examin the relationship among ability of daily living, depression and quality of life of the Indestrial Accident Disabled. Three hundred and forty five industrial accident disabled were randomly selected among who have stayed in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi area and who were confirmed as the disabled classified according to its severity from the first to fourteenth grade between January, 1998 to December, 2000. Data were collected for one month between August 1, 2001 to August 31, 2001. Each study team was consisted of two members of researcher among 20 members and interviewed the disabled individually by visiting their home. Collected data were analyzed from the frequency, percentages, Correlation, etc. The mean score of ability of daily living was 136.3 out of possible 147. The mean score of depression was 31.5 out of possible 64. The mean score of quality of life was 20.1 out of possible 32. The relationship between ability of daily living and depression was significantly correlated and between depression and quality of life was significantly correlated and between ability of daily living and quality of life was significantly correlated. The industrial accident disabled had been in bad health or faced by difficulties in daily activities even after the completion of therapy for the disability. Especially, they are depressed and perceive lowly their quality of life. So, the rehabilitation program for the disabled should be psychosocial oriented program and a comprehensive service.

THE EFFECT OF DENTURE PLACEMENT ON NUTRITION STATUS AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE URBAN ELDERLY (총의치 시술이 도시노인의 영양 및 삶의 질에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of denture placement on nutrition status and quality of life in the urban elderly Material and method : The first survey was conducted from 45 targeted elderly people(25 experimental group, 20 control). In the first survey, information on general characteristics, chewing ability, food intake and nutrient intake, anthropometric measurement, and degree of satisfaction in life were obtained. The second survey was conducted to evaluate the effect of denture placement with same method as the first survey. Results : Before denture placement, there are no statistical significant differences (in general characteristics, chewing ability, nutrient intake, anthropometric measurement, and degree of satisfaction in life) between experimental group and control. But after denture placement, survey shows that there is statistically significant difference in chewing ability between two groups. The experimental group have higher intake of energy, protein, carbohydrate, iron, and vitamin C. in nutrient intake. And after denture replacement, there is significant improvement in degree of satisfaction in life. After denture placement there are significant changes in agitation and attitude toward own aging according to Lawton's factor classification. Conclusion: In short, this study shows that chewing ability improvement of the elderly has strong positive effects to their food intake, nutrient status and quality of life.
