The elementary school needs to foster convergence thinking. The middle school needs to educate common basic literacy education and the high school needs both the common education and the free choice of subjects by students. Thirdly, the separation of the liberal arts and natural sciences was caused by the separate thinking of custom, tradition and study and the separate exam application on liberal arts and natural science of college scholastic ability test. The solution about separation problem of liberal arts and natural sciences have been proposed to improve mathematics education and teachers' convergence education competency. With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the liberal arts education of universities has been called for fundamental innovation in its content and methods. H university has continuously made efforts to improve its general education curriculum with the goal of satisfying students' needs as well as the demands of the times. Its efforts can be summarized as the harmonization of competency-based education and the traditional liberal arts education. In more detail, it has tried to meet the demands of Ministry of Education which requests each university to establish its general education system focusing on key competencies. Simultaneously, it also radically changed its education system based on the guidelines of the Korea National Institute for General Education(KONIGE). The starting point of those changes was the basic consulting by KONIGE in 2017. According to the consulting report, H university introduced comprehensive and overall revision of its liberal arts education curriculum, increasing its liberal arts credit requirements from 22 to 28 credits in 2019. It has also reorganized and reclassified its liberal arts courses by introducing distributive elective classes. In 2020, in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, H university altered its curriculum once more in order to establish a competency-based general education curriculum. Under the new curriculum, all requirement subjects are completely matched with key competencies of H university. It also includes newly opened courses and subject areas such as "Social Service" and "Global Citizenship." Through these changes, H university hopes that its general education contributes to fostering students equipped with key competencies, who can face actively this challenging period.

In university liberal arts education, learners' achievement goals are an important research topic, and this also applies to liberal arts software education. In this paper, we analyzed changes in learning motivation of learners taking liberal arts software courses according to course classification using a 3 × 2 achievement goal model. The analysis was conducted on a discussion-oriented class taken together by learners receiving credits for different purposes, such as required and elective. As a result, it was confirmed that learners begin the semester with similar achievement goals. However, the avoidance goals of learners taking elective courses decreased, showing a significant difference at the end of the semester. It was a different result from the existing liberal arts software education studies that pointed to mandatory enrollment as the cause of lack of motivation to learn. In addition, it was confirmed that learners who take elective courses relatively focus on achievement rather than competition.

The importance and necessity of software(SW) education as a liberal arts was fully recognized by society. However, according to the previous research results, learners' motivation to learn in SW liberal arts was kept low for various reasons. Therefore, understanding the learning motivation and its changeability in SW liberal arts is necessary, but the related studies are not sufficient. In this paper, we analyzed changes in achievement goals using a 3 × 2 achievement goal model to examine changeability of achievement goals in a SW liberal arts class during one semester. As a result, we confirmed that the achievement goals were stable at both the group level and the individual level, but the order of each achievement goal was different from that of the previous studies. We also confirmed that the mastery goal of the classroom goal structure had a higher correlation with most achievement goals, but the performance goals had a correlation with some avoidance goals only. This means that additional research is needed for each key classroom goal structure type in SW education because the learning motivation in SW liberal arts has different aspect from the other existing liberal arts classes.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a character education program based on self-reflection using a liberal arts course at university. To this end, a single treatment group pre- and post-design was conducted in which data were collected at the beginning and end of the semester for 18 students. For statistical estimation suitable for a small sample size, a non-parametric test was performed to examine the significant mean changes of the data. This program was found to significantly improve the level of self-compassion, life satisfaction, and mental well-being of university students. Based on the above results, it was discussed that the liberal arts course for character education based on self-reflection could be useful as a character education for university students, and the implications and suggestions of the results of this study were presented.

In this paper, we made an investigation into the awareness of mathematics by college students, they took a course in mathematics as the liberal arts. Mathematics as the liberal arts is divided into 2 types: mathematics focused on calculus or statistics, and living mathematics except them. We researched mathematics as the liberal arts on a curriculum in several universities and analyzed them. From these results, we suggest the improvement of mathematics as the liberal arts in university.
