리더십 유형과 조직성과와의 관계 분석 - 미국 오클라호마주 의용소방대를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Relationship between Leadership Styles and Organizational Outcome in Oklahoma's Volunteer Fire Department)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 미국 의용소방대 조직에서 의용소방대장의 주도적인 리더십 유형을 확인하고 소방대장의 리더십 유형과 조직성과간의 관계를 분석하는데 있다. 본 연구는 미국 중남부에 위치한 오클라호마주 의용소방대원 205명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구결과, 가장 일반적인 의용소방대장 리더십 유형은 변혁적 리더십인 것으로 나타났다. 두 번째는 거래적 리더십으로 분류되었고 방임형 리더십은 가장 낮은 빈도의 유형으로 분석되었다. 본 연구에서 변혁적 리더십과 거래적 리더십은 조직성과와 정(正)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 방임형 리더십은 조직성과와 부(負)의 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 현재의 의용소방대장과의 근무연수가 증가할수록 자신들의 리더에 대해 변혁적, 거래적 리더십 능력이 감소한다고 평가하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

프랜차이즈에서 리더십스타일의 선행요인과 성과요인에 관한 연구 (A Study on Antecedents and the Consequences of Leadership Styles for Korean the Franchise System)

  • 본 연구는 1980년대 이후 관심을 끌고 있는 리더십연구를 프랜차이즈시스템의 본부와 가맹점관계에 적용하였다. 연구의 목적은 여러 선행연구 및 자료에서 나타난 핵심이슈들 즉, 윤리성, 정보기술, 그리고 조직문화를 리더십의 선행요인으로 보고 이들과 리더십스타일 및 성과 간 관계를 규명하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 프랜차이즈의 3개 업종, 즉 외식업, 서비스업, 도소매업의 가맹점 220업소의 점주를 대상으로 자료를 수집 분석한 결과 거래적 조직문화가 리더십을 강화시키고, 기술역량은 변혁적 리더십만을, 윤리성은 경로리더십유형에 관계없이 모두 영향을 미쳤다. 리더십의 성과에는 변혁적 리더십은 재무적 성과를 강화시키나 거래적 리더십은 관계시민행동을 강화시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 프랜차이즈본부가 거래관계를 중시한 과업지향적 문화를 조성하여 리더십을 강화하고 윤리성의 확립과 기술역량을 축적해야 하며 변혁적 리더십과 거래적 리더십을 선택적으로 발휘하여 재무적 성과와 관계시민행동을 촉진해야함을 나타내 보였다. 본 연구는 "리더십조건은 만들어 질수 있다"는 메시지의 전달과 정부의 유통정책에 경로리더의 양성과 활용기반을 마련하며 윤리교육과 윤리가이드라인이 필요함에 대한 단서를 제공하였다.

공대생들의 창의적 문제해결유형별 셀프리더십과 통제소재 (Creative Problem Solving Style, Self-leadership and Locus of Control in the Korean Engineering College Students)

  • 본 연구는 공대생들을 대상으로 창의적 문제해결유형별로 셀프리더십과 통제소재의 특성을 파악함으로써 문제해결능력과 과제수행을 증진시키고 효과적인 팀을 구성, 관리하는데 도움을 주기 위해 수행되었다. 창의적 문제해결유형의 3가지 차원(변화에 대한 지향, 일처리 방식, 의사결정의 중심)에 대해 각 차원을 구성하는 2가지 유형(혁신-개량, 외적처리-내적처리, 사람중심-과제중심)에 속하는 학생들을 분류하고, 문제해결유형과 성별에 따른 셀프리더십과 통제소재에 차이가 있는지를 알아보기 위해 이원분산분석을 실시했다. 문제해결유형의 주효과는 각 차원별로 다르게 나타났고, 성별의 주효과 및 성별과 문제해결 유형의 상호작용효과는 모든 척도에서 나타나지 않았다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 제언이 논의되었다.

리더십 유형에 따른 미용종사자 직무만족에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Relationship between Leadership Styles and Job Satisfaction of the Beauty Salon Workers)

  • It is apparent that managing a beauty salon lays weight on human resource due to its strudtural nature. Among others a beauty salon has, human resource nay be the most important which affects success of its business because most business of a beauty salon is fulfilled between man of 'customer' and man of 'employee'. Thus, this study analyzes on effects of job satisfaction by leadership styles. Besides, this study tries to find out what style of president's leadership is desirable to promote employee's job satisfaction. To sum up, findings are as follows. First, leadership with high consideration and structure shows a higher job satisfaction, an administrative policy, and working condition. Second, while the leadership styles do not influence duty.

여성 리더의 성 역할과 신뢰가 조직 유효성에 미치는 영향: 교육교재 유통기업을 대상으로 (Women Leaders: Gender Roles, Trust, and Effects on Organizational Performance in Educational Material Distribution Enterprises)

  • Purpose - Since the early 1990s, it has been observed that the number and substance of studies on female leadership have been increasing. One of the reasons for this development may be concerned with the increasing number of female labor market participants as well as the greater opportunities for them to take higher positions in various organizations. In addition to this, the transition from mechanistic organizational structures that emphasize authority, control, and efficiency toward organic ones that focus on environmental adaptability, equality, and trust has also encouraged research on female leadership. The research tendency is based on the assumption that male and female leaders tend to exhibit different leadership styles according to their gender differences. Recent research has cast doubt on this assumption, by showing that the sociological gender roles of men and women are independent such that some female leaders show authoritative and control-oriented leadership, which were once considered to be male leadership styles. Research design, data, and methodology - This research attempts to carry out an empirical study on the gender-related leadership styles of female leaders and to examine their effect on group performance in the K business organization. This study also focuses on leader attributes such as trust, and it aims to discover whether these attributes should be regarded as independent or as moderating variables between leadership styles and performance. For these purposes, this study generated four hypotheses based on a review of the literature and it tested them using a survey. Female workers in the sales departments of the K Company, all of whom are women, were asked to provide answers to the presented questionnaires. This study hypothesizes that the type of gender roles played by women leaders will affect the job satisfaction and organizational commitment among the members of the sales group, and that the level of trust that is garnered by women leaders will also affect the types of gender roles that they play as well as employee job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Results - The results of this study show that both androgynous and masculine leadership styles are superior to the feminine leadership style in terms of employee job satisfaction and organizational commitment. However, contrary to our expectations, this study fails to show the superiority of the androgynous leadership style over the masculine leadership style. Moreover, there are no significant differences between these two leadership styles with regard to group performance. Conclusions - This study shows that it is important that different attributes of leaders, such as how trusted they are, be treated as moderating variables between leadership and performance rather than as independent variables. Finally, as this is the first attempt to view the role of the gender in a new perspective, the managerial implications of this study for leadership research, as well as its limitations, are presented. Suggestions for future related research are also proposed.

A Study of the Roles of Leadership Styles and Attitudes with Social Responsibility for the 4th Industrial Revolution

  • The 4th Industrial Revolution (FIR) has already begun. Corporations have to fulfill their social responsibilities to the FIR. This study explores the leadership and attitudes required in the FIR era for companies to fulfill their social responsibilities. In the FIR era, workers should have certain attitudes, such as self-efficacy, expectancy, and acceptance of change. If workers have these attitudes, they will be able to make a difference in the future. This study suggests the leadership styles that are needed to improve these attitudes. Participation, creativity, delegation of leadership, and inspirational motivation of leaders involves organizational change and improvement of organizational performance. This paper demonstrates the kind of leadership that is more important for each attitude through statistical analysis. Furthermore, when workers have these attitudes, not only the future, but also their current performance can be improved. To explain this relationship, the paper describes the effect of attitudes on job satisfaction. If workers have certain attitudes, their current and future performance will improve. As a result of the research, all four leadership styles had positive effects on attitudes toward FIR, and attitudes showed a mediating effect on the relationship between leadership styles and job satisfaction. In addition, it has been proven that the role of participative and delegating leadership, which is more member-oriented leadership, is more important. Leadership will enable workers to have a particular attitude through member-centered leadership, and workers will be able to increase current and future performance. Through these efforts, companies will be able to increase their performance in the current and FIR era, and fulfill their social responsibilities more faithfully. Therefore, in the FIR era, companies will play an important role in the development of society, and create new values.

Leadership Styles and Customer Loyalty: A Lesson from Emerging Southeast Asia's Airlines Industry

  • This study provides the empirical testing to test the influences of contemporary leadership styles (i.e., transactional and transformational) on job satisfaction and customer satisfaction as the mediating variable between job satisfaction and customer loyalty. The approach utilized in this study was a quantitative research design using a survey model. The participants of this study were recruited from 160 front-liners in the airline's industry in Indonesia. This study employed 160 front liners (flight attendants, reservation/ticketing, and check-in-counter officers) who worked in Branch Office/General Sales Agent of Indonesian commercial airlines. The studied airlines serve domestic routes based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Furthermore, the data were examined the four developed hypotheses by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The primary results are: First, in the context of job satisfaction, both leadership styles (i.e., transactional and transformational) have similar influences; Second, job satisfaction affects customer satisfaction positively and significant, Third, customer loyalty is driven by passengers' satisfaction when they are utilizing the airline services. The findings imply that the working-role encouragement is essential to maximize the productivity of front-liners to serve their customer well. This research supports on developing the general knowledge based on leadership styles in the context of the airline's industry in managing the human resources strategically.

공대생들의 협동학습에서 학습양식유형 및 셀프리더십과 팀 수행 (Learning Style, Self-leadership and Team Performance in the Cooperative Learning of Engineering College Students)

  • 본 연구는 협동학습에서 팀 프로젝트를 수행하는 공대생들을 대상으로 학습양식유형 및 셀프리더십이 팀 수행 성적과 어떤 관련성이 있는 지를 파악함으로써 협동학습 효과의 극대화를 위한 기초소양교육 프로그램을 구성하는 데 도움이 되는 기초정보를 제공하기 위해 수행되었다. 팀 수행 성적이 상, 하위 30%에 해당하는 집단 간에 학습양식유형의 분포를 비교한 결과, 상위권 집단의 약 70%가 수렴자와 적응자에 해당된 반면, 하위권 집단의 약 67%가 적응자와 분산자에 해당되었다. 또한 상위권 학생들의 셀프리더십이 전반적으로 높았고, 특히 자기관찰, 자기처벌, 자연적 보상, 성공적 수행 상상하기, 자기대화, 신념과 가정분석 전략을 더 잘 실천하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 제한점과 후속연구를 위한 제언이 논의되었다.

팔로워십 특성 조절효과가 IT중소기업의 리더십유형과 임파워먼트에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Followership to Leadership Styles and Empowerment in IT SMEs)

  • The purpose of this study is to highlight the effects of the two leadership styles, namely: transformational leadership and transactional leadership, on the different types of followership through analyzing their impact in the productivity and competitiveness of human resources in IT SMEs. The paper focuses on determining whether transformational leadership or transactional leadership is more effective as shown by the levels of empowerment derived from these two types of leadership under study. From this study, alien, role model and passive types of followership, transformational leadership appears to be more influential for personal empowerment. As for group level of empowerment, the transformational type of leadership shows higher effectiveness in alien, role model, passive, and practical types of followership. On the other hand, transactional leadership yields positive impact on practical and conformist types of followership. In summary, personal empowerment plays a direct impact on group empowerment. Thus, with the exception of conformist type of followership, transformational leadership has more impact in human resources of IT SMEs.

Learning Leadership Skills from Professionals in the Construction Industry

  • Organizational personnel must have well-developed interpersonal skills to deal with the different stakeholders and departments, to work at different levels in the hierarchy, and to meet varying performance requirements. Many leadership development and mentoring programs are designed to expose students as well as construction professionals to contemporary leadership techniques and skills. Leadership skills generally separate into three decision-making styles with varying degrees: 1) Autocratic, 2) Participate, and 3) Free-rein. This paper describes the study of leadership styles among 174 construction professionals and addresses the most appropriate leadership style for a project executive and a project manager in relation to compare with the characteristic leadership style and job functions. The study supports the growing importance of leadership skills as a component of managerial functions and provides a benchmark to identify a dominant leadership skill for a specific managerial position.
