  • Objective: To compare condylar position and morphology among different vertical skeletal patterns. Methods: Diagnostic cone-beam computed tomography images of 60 adult patients (120 temporomandibular joints) who visited the orthodontic clinic of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital were reviewed. The subjects were divided into three equal groups according to the mandibular plane angle: hypodivergent, normodivergent, and hyperdivergent groups. Morphology of the condyle and mandibular fossa and condylar position were compared among the groups. Results: The hypodivergent and hyperdivergent groups showed significant differences in superior joint spaces, antero-posterior condyle width, medio-lateral condyle width, condyle head angle, and condylar shapes. Conclusions: Condylar position and morphology vary according to vertical facial morphology. This relationship should be considered for predicting and establishing a proper treatment plan for temporomandibular diseases during orthodontic treatment.

  • Traditionally, load flows have been calculated using the Gauss-Seidel and Newton-Raphson Method. DistFlow Method which is proposed by Wu and Baran is superior to the other two methods because it does not require the admittance matrix calculation to optimize the distribution system. This paper introduces a new alternative algorithm to the DistFlow Method which is slow and complex to find solutions as the number of lateral and sublateral increases. The proposed load flow method can construct System Jacobian easily. We can minimize the off-diagonal elements of the branch Jacobian and submatrices in the System Jacobian. Simulation results show that progressive performances of the proposed algorithm have a better convergence time.

  • We investigated light absorption layer effect on metal-induced lateral crystallization (MILC) growth rate and MILC thin films transistors (TFTs). As annealing method, we used scanning-rapid thermal annealing (RTA). MILC growth rate which was crystallized by light absorption layer and using scanning-RTA was 3 times than normal MILC which was without light absorption layer growth rate. Also we compared MILC TFTs characteristics which were combined to light absorption layer with conventional MILC TFTs. After scanning-RTA process, MILC-TFTs which were with light absorption layer were superior to conventional MILC-TFTs. With this new MILC-TFTs structure, we could reduced crystallization time and obtain good electrical properties.

  • In this study a structure with viscoelastic and viscous dampers with identical damping coefficient subjected to stationary seismic and wind load were analyzed in time and frequency-domain to compare motion control capability of viscous and viscoelastic dampers. The dampers were placed based on story drift and acceleration obtained from RMS responses. According to the analysis results, the motion control capability of viscous dampers turned out to be superior to that of the viscoelastic dampers for the case of seismic load. On the contrary, in case of wind load, the viscoelastic dampers were more effective in the mitigation of dynamic responses. However, it was also found that the differences were in a narrow margin.

  • Seven columns laterally reinforced with either mechanically anchored crossties or conventional crossties under cyclic loading are tested. 4 columns are specimens for flexural strength and 3 columns are for shear strength. Main variable is anchorage types of crossties. Conventional hooks, 180$^{\circ}$ standard hook-mechanical anchorage and all mechanical anchorage type are used. The specimens are tested under 10$\%$ axial load of nominal axial capacity of the columns combined with increasing lateral load. From the flexure test, it is found that columns with mechanical anchorages exhibit superior performance in terms of ductility and energy dissipation. The crossties with mechanical anchorages reduce buckling length of longitudinal rebar. From the shear test, it is found that. 3 specimens exhibit almost the same strength, displacement, and shear failure mode at ductility factor =2.

  • A non-conservative robust Kalman filter (NCRKF) is applied to flight data to identify the aerodynamic derivatives of an unmanned autonomous vehicle (UAV). The NCRKF is formulated using UAV lateral motion data and then compared with results from the conventional Kalman filter (KF) and the recursive least square (RLS) method. A superior performance for the NCRKF is demonstrated by simulation and real flight data. The NCRKF is especially effective in large uncertainties in vehicle modeling and in measuring flight data. Thus, it is expected to be useful in missile and aircraft parameter identification.

  • In recent years, the deterioration of reinforced concrete structures has become a serious problem in civil engineering fields. This situation is mainly due to corrosion of steel reinforcing bars embedded in concrete. Recently, there has been a greatly increased demand for the use of FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) in civil engineering field due to their superior mechanical and physical properties. This paper presents an experimental study on the behavior of concrete bridge deck reinforced with FRP Box, FRP Plate, and FRP Re-bar. In tlIe study, mechanical properties of FRP Box, FRP Plate, GFRP Re-bar, and CFRP Grid have been investigated. Full scale one-way deck slab was tested under four point lateral load (equivalent to actual wheel load of DB-24 including impact). Load-deflection and load-strain data were collected through LVDT's and strain gages attached to the specimen.

  • A flat plate-column connection is susceptible to brittle punching shear failure, which may result in the necessity of shear reinforcement. In previous, experimental tests were performed to study the capacity of slab-column connections strengthened with various shear reinforcement, and the capacity of the specimens with lattice reinforcement are superior to the others. In present study, to study for effects of details of lattice reinforcement, experimental studies was performed. Main parameters are the amount of lattice shear reinforcement, arrangement of lattice and the effect of flexural re-bar. And capacity of the specimen with small amount of lattice reinforcement was higher than the capacity of other shear reinforcement.

  • Power transistors to be used in Power Integrated Circuits(PIC) are required to have low on resistance, fast switching speed, and high breakdown voltage. The lateral IGBTs(LIGBTs)are promising power devices for high voltage PIC applications, because of its superior device characteristics. In this paper, dual cathode LIGBT(DCIGBT) for high voltage is presented. We have verified the effectiveness of high blocking voltage in the new device by using two dimensional devices simulator. We have analyzed the forward blocking characteristics , the latch up performance and turn off characteristics of the proposed structure. Specially, we have focused forward blocking of LIGBT. The forward blocking voltage of conventional LIGBT and the proposed LIGBT are 120V and 165V, respectively. . The forward blocking characteristics of the proposed LIGBT is better than that of the conventional LIGBT. This forward blocking comparison exhibits a 1.5 times improvement in the proposed LIGBT.

  • The abducens nerve (AN; cranial nerve VI) exits the brainstem at the inferior pontine sulcus, pierces the dura of the posterior cranial fossa, passes through the cavernous sinus in close contact to the internal carotid artery (ICA) and traverses the superior orbital fissure to reach the orbit to innervate the lateral rectus muscle. At its exit from the brainstem, the AN includes only axons from lower motor neurons in the abducens nucleus. However, as the AN crosses the ICA it receives a number of branches from the internal carotid sympathetic plexus. The arrangement, neurochemical profile and function of these sympathetic axons running along the AN remain unresolved. Herein, we use gross dissection and microscopic study of hematoxylin and eosin-stained sections and sections with tyrosine hydroxylase immunolabeling. Our results suggest the AN receives multiple bundles of unmyelinated axons that use norepinephrine as a neurotransmitter consistent with postganglionic sympathetic axons.
