  • In this study, two mathematical models are first constructed to analyze vibration characteristics of a gear train - spindle system of an NC lathe gear box. One is a lumped parameter model which is used for calculating natural frequencies of the torsional vibration, the other is a finite element model for analyzing lateral vibration and critical speeds of the spindle system. In addition, this study examines some possible resonance conditions such as gear mesh frequencies, 1X shaft rpm frequencies over whole operating speed range, and so on. The results may be helpful to design a machine tool gear box with low noise and vibration.

  • Currently about 60 contries in the world require earthquake resistant structural design in case of multistory building constructions. In these cases the equivalent lateral force procedure is commonly adopted because of its simplicity and convenience. This procedure, however, is developed based mainly on the first vibration mode response of building structure. The dynamic analysis of tall building shows that the effect of higher modes of vibration on the response of the building can not be neglected. In this paper, the effect of higher modes of vibration on seismic response is evaluated through modal analysis of tall building structures. On the basis of evaluation results, an improved procedure is to be proposed for the extended application of the equivalent lateral force procedure.

  • In this paper, the vibration for a pickup actuator is described by mathematically analyzing its suspension configuration and motion, confined to lateral and torsional directions of suspensions. In order to prove the accuracy of this result, it is compared to a finite element analysis. Also it is shown that modal frequencies can be modified by changing design parameters in mathematical motion expressions.

Optimal lateral load pattern for pushover analysis of building structures

  • Pushover analysis captures the behavior of a structure from fully elastic to collapse. In this analysis, the structure is subjected to increasing lateral load with constant gravity one. Neglecting the effects of the higher modes and the changes in the vibration characteristics during the nonlinear analysis are the main obstacles of the proposed lateral load patterns. To overcome these drawbacks, whereas some methods have been presented to achieve updated lateral load distribution, these methods are not precisely capable to predict the response of structures, precisely. In this study, a new method based on optimization procedure is developed to obtain a lateral load pattern for which the difference between the floor displacements of pushover and Nonlinear Dynamic Analyses (NDA) is minimal. For this purpose, an optimization problem is considered and the genetic algorithm is applied to calculate optimal lateral load pattern. Three special moment resisting steel frames with different dynamic characteristics are simulated and their optimal load patterns are derived. The floor displacements of these frames subjected to the proposed and conventional load patterns are acquired and the accuracy of them is evaluated via comparing with NDA responses. The outcomes reveal that the proposed lateral load distribution is more accurate than the previous ones.

  • This study shows the vibration characteristics of an actuator with six wire-suspensions, used in optical pickups of optical disc drives (ODDs). In this paper, the vibration characteristics of this beam structure is induced mathematically. To obtain vibration modes of focusing direction, the vibration analysis is achieved in lateral and longitudinal directions of the structure. The accuracy of induced vibration characteristics is proved by comparing mode frequencies with a finite element analysis. Finally, it is shown that mode shapes can be modified by changing design parameters in mathematical expressions.

차륜답면 형상변화에 따른 KTX의 동특성 (Effects of Wheel Profile on KTX Dynamic Characteristics)

  • The running safety of a railway vehicle depends on the design parameters and contact condition between wheel and rail. In this study, the effect of the conicity of wheel tread is analyzed using ADAMS/RAIL software on running situation. Modal analysis shows in 0.6 Hz natural frequency of lateral mode in fully arranged the KTX cars. The excessive vibration of the tail cars occurs in the 17th car as the speed and the stiffness of the secondary suspension increases, and especially for 1/40 conicity of the GV40 wheel. Also, the analysis shows that combination of wheel profile, GV40 for power cars and XP55 for passenger cars can reduce the lateral vibration of the tail cars.

  • When operating NC lathe, gear box which is equipped with gear train and spindle sometimes generates loud noise and excessive vibrations. In order to identify their causes, In this study, torsional and lateral vibration characteristics including critical speeds of the gear train-spindle system are first analyzed by using torsional and lateral vibration models of the gear train and shafts. Natural frequencies and modes of the gear box structure are also analyzed by impulse hammer test. Furthermore, measured vibration and noise signals are analyzed and compared with theoretical analysis results. At last it is concluded that the cause of the excessive mise and vibration is the resonance between gear meshing frequency including its side bands, shaft bending and torsional vibration frequencies, and the natural frequencies of th gear box structure. Consequently the noise and vibration levels are greatly reduced by avoiding resonance between them through the redesign of the gear module.

  • This paper presents the characteristics of lateral vibrations of rotor system supported by hydrodynamic journal bearings. Finite element model is developed for the dynamic analysis of rotor system. Hydrodynamic bearings are modeled with the distributed springs and dampers in shape of the 2nd order polynomials in the direction of bearing width. Experiments are conducted to measure the natural frequency, and experimental results are compared with the theoretical results that are calculated using the point model and distributed model. Theoretical results using the distributed model agrees better with the measured results as bearing width increases. Also, this method is applied to actual three-stage turbo blower model. Then, critical speed and forced vibration analysis are performed.

유압동력 조향시스템의 동역학 모델링을 통한 시미진동 해석 (Shimmy Vibration Analysis of Steering Wheel including Hydraulic Power Steering System)

  • The power steering system has been adopted in most vehicle system for an easy maneuverability. In this paper, a hydraulic power steering(HPS) model for the computer simulation is developed and used to power steering simulation. The simulation shows that the steering wheel torque with HPS model is less than that without HPS model. In addition, the shimmy vibration at the steering wheel is also simulated and compared to the test data. The lateral displacement of the steering wheel is calculated by imposing the lateral acceleration of the knuckle as a vibration input. The frequency response of the steering wheel is in a good agreement to the test data.

  • 우리나라 최초의 정지궤도위성 개발을 위하여 발사 시 발생하는 진동환경을 지상에서 구현하기 위한 전체 시스템 구축 및 검증이 요청되었다. 정지궤도위성은 기존 개발 위성대비 중량이 대폭 증가하여 수직 가진시스템의 경우, 신규 가진시스템 개발이 필요하였다. 수평 가진시스템은 고정용 치구와 슬립테이블의 열특성 차이에 따른 확인 및 수평방향 가진 시스템의 모멘트 성능 검증이 요청되었다. 또한 데이터 습득 요구 채널의 증가로 인하여 신규로 제어 및 습득 시스템을 구축하였다. 본 연구에서는 진동환경 시스템 전체에 대한 검증 과정 및 안정성 향상을 위해 적용한 여러 기법들을 소개하고자 한다.
