대용량 DNA서열 처리를 위한 서픽스 트리 생성 알고리즘의 개발 (Suffix Tree Constructing Algorithm for Large DNA Sequences Analysis)

  • 서픽스 트리는 데이터의 내부구조를 자세히 나타내고 선형시간 탐색이 가능한 효과적인 자료구조로서 DNA 서열분석 등에 유용하다. 그러나 서열을 서픽스 트리로 구축하는 경우 트리의 크기가 원본의 최소 30배 이상으로 커지므로 테라바이트(TB)급의 대용량 DNA 서열의 경우에 메모리상의 응용은 매우 어려운 문제점이 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 디스크를 이용한 대용량 DNA의 서픽스 트리 응용기법을 제시한다. 이때 DNA 서열구조를 고려한 서픽스 트리 선형 탐색 특성 유지를 보장한다. 이를 검증하기 위하여 9G Byte의 유전자 단편 서열을 이용해 424G Byte의 서픽스 트리를 디스크에 구축한 다음, 임의의 질의 서열에 대해 KMP알고리즘과 비교한 결과 질의 응답시간에서 우수한 성능을 보였다.

  • New towns and large multi-family housing complexes are being built in the capital region of Korea, with the goal of creating safe and pedestrian-friendly cities. Traffic accidents in such residential complexes, however, is on the rise, creating social problems. While there have been many previous studies on problems with pedestrian environment; there is a dearth of studies that take design-based approach to ensure safety in pedestrian environment within residential complexes. Therefore, this study aims to prevent traffic accidents by properly planning pedestrian environment within multi-family housing complexes, in addition to emphasizing theories related to planning safer pedestrian environment in general. This study found the following design directions required to improve the design theory of pedestrian safety in multi-family housing complexes: (1) Linking traffic facilities and residential complex spaces in Korea; (2) Considering implementation of United Kingdom road systems; (3) Establishing appropriate objectives for each residential complex based on case study. In response to these findings, the study selected the A84BL complex in Hwaseong Dongtan 2 Complex located in Dongtan-myeon, Hwaseong-si in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Items that can be implemented, as well as spatial design directions, were discussed with a focus on private vehicles, pedestrians, and service vehicles.

Axiomatic design study for automatic ship-to-ship mooring system for container operations in open sea

  • To provide more rational design solutions at conceptual design level, axiomatic design method has been applied to solve critical part of a new engineering problem called Mobile Harbor. In the implementation, the Mobile Harbor, a functional harbor system that consists of a vessel with container crane approaches to a container ship anchored in the open sea and establishes a secure mooring between the two vessels to carry out loading and unloading of containers. For this moving harbor system to be able to operate successfully, a reliable and safe strategy to moor and maintain constant distance between the two vessels in winds and waves is required. The design process of automatic ship-to-ship mooring system to satisfy the requirements of establishing and maintaining secure mooring has been managed using axiomatic design principles. Properly defining and disseminating Functional Requirements, clarifying interface requirements between its subsystems, and identifying potential conflict, i.e. functional coupling, at the earliest stage of design as much as possible are all part of what need to be managed in a system design project. In this paper, we discuss the automatic docking system design project under the umbrella of KAIST mobile harbor project to illustrate how the Axiomatic Design process can facilitate design projects for a large and complex engineering system. The solidified design is presented as a result.

비선형 시스템의 상태변수 추정기법 동향 (A Survey on State Estimation of Nonlinear Systems)

  • This article reviews various state estimation methods for nonlinear systems, particularly with a perspective of a process control engineer. Nonlinear state estimation methods can be classified into the following two categories: stochastic approaches and deterministic approaches. The current review compares the Bayesian approach, which is mainly a stochastic approach, and the MHE (Moving Horizon Estimation) approach, which is mainly a deterministic approach. Though both methods are reviewed, emphasis is given to the latter as it is particularly well-suited to highly nonlinear systems with slow sampling rates, which are common in chemical process applications. Recent developments in underlying theories and supporting numerical algorithms for MHE are reviewed. Thanks to these developments, applications to large-scale and complex chemical processes are beginning to show up but they are still limited at this point owing to the high numerical complexity of the method.

통신시스템을 위한 공유메모리 기반 ORB 연동 프로토콜의 설계 (Design of Shared Memory-based Inter-ORB Protocol for Communication Systems)

  • 통신시스템 소프트웨어는 대단히 크고 복잡하기 때문에, 소프트웨어 재사용성, 하드에어 투명성, 응용에 따른 소프트웨어 재구축의 용이성과 고성능을 위한 컴포넌트 기반 구조를 요구하고 있다. 이런 요구사항을 만족시키기 위하여, 기존 CORBA IIOP의 성능과 통신방식에 대한 분석을 통해 통신시스템에 적합한 공유 메모리 기반의 CORBA 연동 프로토콜을 설계하였다. 설계된 프로토콜은 동일한 인터페이스를 지원하며 동일 시스템 환경에서의 메시지 전송 오버헤드를 최소화시킨다. 다른 프로토콜과의 비교시험 결과 새로운 프로토콜은 약15%-200%의 성능향상을 보여주고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에 제시된 프로토콜은 통신시스템을 위한 CORBA 기반의 컴포넌트 소프트웨어 개발을 위해 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

UPFC Device: Optimal Location and Parameter Setting to Reduce Losses in Electric-Power Systems Using a Genetic-algorithm Method

  • Ensuring the secure operation of power systems has become an important and critical matter during the present time, along with the development of large, complex and load-increasing systems. Security constraints such as the thermal limits of transmission lines and bus-voltage limits must be satisfied under all of a system’s operational conditions. An alternative solution to improve the security of a power system is the employment of Flexible Alternating-Current Transmission Systems (FACTS). FACTS devices can reduce the flows of heavily loaded lines, maintain the bus voltages at desired levels, and improve the stability of a power network. The Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is a versatile FACTS device that can independently or simultaneously control the active power, the reactive power and the bus voltage; however, to achieve such functionality, it is very important to determine the optimal location of the UPFC device, with the appropriate parameter setting, in the power system. In this paper, a genetic algorithm (GA) method is applied to determine the optimal location of the UPFC device in a network for the enhancement of the power-system loadability and the minimization of the active power loss in the transmission line. To verify our approach, simulations were performed on the IEEE 14 Bus, 30 Bus, and 57 Bus test systems. The proposed work was implemented in the MATLAB platform.

텔레메트리 시스템을 위한 PLL 기반의 시각동기 알고리즘 (Phase Locked Loop based Time Synchronization Algorithm for Telemetry System)

  • 본 논문에서는 텔레메트리 시스템에 적용하기 위한 PLL 기반의 시각동기 알고리즘을 제시하고 FPGA 로직을 구현하였다. 텔레메트리 시스템에서 대형 비행체의 경우 각각의 분산 획득 장치들을 통해 상태정보를 계측하여 실시간으로 비행 상태를 분석해야하므로 정밀도 향상을 위한 장치 및 시스템 간의 시각 동기의 중요성이 커지고 있다. 이 때문에 시각동기 기법으로 타 시각동기 방법보다 복잡도가 적고, 동기를 위한 추가적인 메시지 전송을 최소화하여 데이터 처리에 적은 시간이 소요되는 PLL 기반의 시각동기 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 타당성을 확인하기 위해 python 시뮬레이션을 수행하였으며 최종적으로 FPGA 내에 VHDL 로직을 구현하여 시각 동기 성능을 확인하였다.

XML을 이용한 이기종 CAD 조립체 DMU시스템의 설계 (An XML-based Digital Mock-Up System for Heterogeneous Multi-CAD Assembly)

  • As many engineers and technicians are involved in the design process of large scale and/or complex products, there are a lot of miss matches and interferences due to designers' faults and several kinds of CAD systems. Recently, CAD systems are applied to verify and check the assembly process. Digital Mock-Up(DMU) system, a tool to build a virtual mock-up in the design stage, has been used to prevent the interferences and miss matches during precision design processes. Using the virtual assembly tool, engineers are able to design precision and interference free parts without physical mock-ups. Instead of a single CAD source, several CAD systems are used to design a complex product. Several organizations are involved in the distributed design environment for heterogeneous multi-CAD assembly. XML and the lightweight CAD file are proposed for the multi-CAD assembly. XML data contains hierarchy of the heterogenenous multi-CAD assembly. STEP PDM schema and STEP ISO 10303-28 formations are applied to construct the XML data. The lightweight CAD file produced from various CAD files through ACIS kernel and InterOp not only contains mesn, B-Rep and topological data, but also is used to visualize CAD data and to verify dimensions. Developed system is executed on the desktop computers. It does not require commercial CAD systems to visualize 3D assembly data. Real-time interference and fitness checks, dimensional verification, and design and assembly verification are performed on the developed system. Assembly of heterogeneous models for a car is conducted to verify the effectiveness of the developed DMU system on the Internet.

Combination rules and critical seismic response of steel buildings modeled as complex MDOF systems

  • The Maximum seismic responses of steel buildings with perimeter moment resisting frames (MRF), modeled as complex MDOF systems, are estimated for several incidence angles of the horizontal components and the critical one is identified. The accuracy of the existing rules to combine the effects of the individual components is also studied. Two and three components are considered. The critical response does not occur for principal components and the corresponding incidence angle varies from one earthquake to another. The critical response can be estimated as 1.40 and 1.10 times that of the principal components, for axial load and interstory shears, respectively. The rules underestimate the axial load but reasonably overestimate the shears. The rules are not always inaccurate in the estimation of the combined response for correlated components. On the other hand, totally uncorrelated (principal) components are not always related to an accurate estimation. The correlation of the individual effects (${\rho}$) may be significant, even for principal components. The rules are not always associated to an inaccurate estimation for large values of ${\rho}$, and small values of ${\rho}$ are not always related to an accurate estimation. Only for perfectly uncorrelated harmonic excitations and elastic analysis of SDOF systems, the individual effects of the components are uncorrelated and the rules accurately estimate the combined response. The degree of correlation of the components, the type of structural system, the response parameter under consideration, the location of the structural member and the level of structural deformation must be considered while estimating the level of underestimation or overestimation.

사고영향평가를 이용한 지하 매설 배관 사고 시 긴급차단밸브에 의한 피해 범위 감소에 관한 연구 (A Consequence Analysis of the Mitigation Impact on Emergency Shut-off Valves for Accidents of Underground Pipelines)

  • 현재 울산국가산업단지에는 생산량의 증대와 이송의 편의를 위해 막대한 규모의 지하매설배관이 설치되어 있다. 현재 울산국가산업단지에는 62개 사에 총 1,293km의 지하배관이 설치되어 있으며, 이 중에서 상당수는 사업장 외부에 설치되어 있다. 최근 3년간 울산국가산업단지에서는 5건의 누출사고가 발생하였으며, 대응시간은 평균 8시간 이상 걸렸다. 이러한 사고대응의 지체는 심각한 2차 사고로 이어질 수 있으며, 이는 지역주민들에게 큰 위험을 줄 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 지하매설배관에 긴급차단장치를 설치하는 경우 사고영향평가를 통해 얼마나 누출사고의 영향이 경감되는지 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 긴급차단장치 설치가 지하매설배관의 누출사고의 피해를 줄이는 데 큰 역할을 할 수 있음을 검증하였다. 향후, 지하매설배관의 안전성 향상을 위해 시급히 긴급차단장치의 설치를 입법화하고 실행되어야 할 것이다.
