  • The distribution of the sum of n independent random variables having exponential distributions with different parameters ${\beta}_i$ ($i=1,2,{\ldots},n$) is given in [2], [3], [4] and [6]. In [1], by using Laplace transform, Jasiulewicz and Kordecki generalized the results obtained by Sen and Balakrishnan in [6] and established a formula for the distribution of this sum without conditions on the parameters ${\beta}_i$. The aim of this note is to present a method to find the distribution of the sum of n independent exponentially distributed random variables with different parameters. Our method can also be used to handle the case when all ${\beta}_i$ are the same.

  • Based on first-order shear deformation theory, a wave propagation model of graphene platelets reinforced metal foams (GPLRMFs) circular plates is built in this paper. The expressions of phase-/group- velocities and wave number are obtained by using Laplace integral transformation and Hankel integral transformation. The effects of GPLs pattern, foams distribution, GPLs weight fraction and foam coefficient on the phase and group velocity of GPLRMFs circular plates are discussed in detail. It can be inferred that GPLs distribution have great impacts on the wave propagation problems, and Porosity-I type distribution has the largest phase velocity and group velocity, followed by Porosity-III, and finally Porosity-II; With the increase of the GPLs weight fraction, the phase- and group- velocities for the GPLRMFs circular plate will be increased; With the increase of the foam coefficient, the phase- and group- velocities for the GPLRMFs circular plate will be decreased.

  • In this paper, a simple analytical model for deriving the I-V characteristics of a cylindrical surrounding gate SOI MOSFET with intrinsic silicon core is suggested. The Poisson equation in the intrinsic silicon core and the Laplace equation in the gate oxide layer are solved analytically. The surface potentials at both source and drain ends are obtained by means of the bisection method. From them, the surface potential distribution is used to describe the I-V characteristics in a closed-form. Simulation results seem to show the dependencies of the I-V characteristics on the various device parameters and applied bias voltages within a range of satisfactory accuracy.

  • In this study, an enhanced first-order shear deformation theory is proposed to efficiently and accurately predict the thermo-mechanical-viscoelastic coupled behavior of laminated composite structures. To this end, transverse shearstress and displacement fields are independently assumed, and the strain-energy relationship between these fields issystematically established using the mixed variational theorem (MVT). In MVT, the transverse shear stress fields are obtained from the third-order zigzag model, whereas the displacement fields of the conventional first-order model are considered to amplify the benefits of numerical efficiency. Additionally, a transverse displacement field with a smooth parabolic distribution is introduced to accurately predict the thermal behavior of composite structures. Furthermore, the concept of Laplace transformation is newly employed to simplify the viscoelastic problem, similar to the linear-elastic problem. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed theory, the numerical results obtained herein were compared with those available in the literature.

  • Software reliability in the software development process is an important issue. Software process improvement helps in finishing with reliable software product. Infinite failure NHPP software reliability models presented in the literature exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, we were proposed the reliability model with the exponential and inverse exponential distribution, which made out efficiency application for software reliability. Algorithm to estimate the parameters used to maximum likelihood estimator and bisection method, model selection based on mean square error (MSE) and coefficient of determination($R^2$), for the sake of efficient model, were employed. Analysis of failure, using real data set for the sake of proposing the exponential and inverse exponential distribution, was employed. This analysis of failure data compared with the exponential and inverse exponential distribution property. In order to insurance for the reliability of data, Laplace trend test was employed. In this study, the inverse exponential distribution model is also efficient in terms of reliability because it (the coefficient of determination is 80% or more) in the field of the conventional model can be used as an alternative could be confirmed. From this paper, the software developers have to consider life distribution by prior knowledge of the software to identify failure modes which can be able to help.

  • Infinite failure NHPP models for a record value satisfies mode proposed in the literature exhibit either monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, propose comparative study of software reliability model using Erlang distribution, Rayleigh and Gumbel distribution. Equations to estimate the parameters using maximum likelihood estimation of infinite failure NHPP model based on failure data collected in the form of interfailure times are developed. For the sake of proposing distribution, we used to the special pattern. Analysis of failure data set using arithmetic and Laplace trend tests, goodness-of-fit test, bias tests is presented.

  • The thermodynamic instability of bubbles in wet-foam colloidal suspension is due to the substantial area of their gas/liquid interface. Several physical processes lead to gas diffusion from smaller to larger bubbles, resulting in a coarsening and Ostwald ripening of wet foam. This includes a narrowing of the bubble size distribution. The distribution and microstructure of porous ceramics, the adsorption free energy and Laplace pressure of $Al_2O_3$ particle-stabilized colloidal suspension, and $SiO_2$ content were investigated for tailoring the bubble size. Wet-foam stability of more than 80% is related to the degree of hydrophobicity with contact angles of $62-70^{\circ}$ achieved from the surfactant. The contact angle replaces part of the highly energetic interface and lowers the free energy of the system. This leads to an apparent increase in the surface tension (26-33 mN/m) of the colloidal suspension.

  • The main goal of this paper is to study an extension of random summations of independent and identically distributed random variables when the number of summands in random summation is a partial sum of n independent, identically distributed, non-negative integer-valued random variables. Some characterizations of random summations are considered. The central limit theorems and weak law of large numbers for extended random summations are established. Some weak limit theorems related to geometric random sums, binomial random sums and negative-binomial random sums are also investigated as asymptotic behaviors of extended random summations.

  • The two-dimensional deformation of a homogeneous, isotropic thermoelastic half-space with voids with variable modulus of elasticity and thermal conductivity subjected to thermomechanical boundary conditions has been investigated. The formulation is applied to the coupled theory(CT) as well as generalized theories: Lord and Shulman theory with one relaxation time(LS), Green and Lindsay theory with two relaxation times(GL) Chandrasekharaiah and Tzou theory with dual phase lag(C-T) of thermoelasticity. The Laplace and Fourier transforms techniques are used to solve the problem. As an application, concentrated/uniformly distributed mechanical or thermal sources have been considered to illustrate the utility of the approach. The integral transforms have been inverted by using a numerical inversion technique to obtain the components of displacement, stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution in the physical domain. The effect of dependence of modulus of elasticity on the components of stress, changes in volume fraction field and temperature distribution are illustrated graphically for a specific model. Different special cases are also deduced.

  • In this study, a digital terrain analysis had been performed for a mountainous watershed having wetlands. In order to consider the impact for wetland in the flow determination algorithm, the Laplace equation is implemented into the upslope accounting algorithm of wetness computation scheme. The computational algorithm of wetland to spatial contribution of downslope area and wetness was also developed to evaluate spatially distributed runoff due to the presence of wetland. Developed schemes were applied to Wangpichun watershed located Chuncuk mountain at Ulzingun, South Korea. Both spatial distribution of wetness and its histogram indicate that the developed scheme provides feasible consideration of wetland impact in spatial hydrologic analysis. The impact of wetland to downslope propagation pattern is also useful to evaluate spatially distributed runoff distribution.
