In this paper, we will analyse the thermo-elastic behavior of the plate element of a structure arranged in a climatically aggressive environment (extreme temperature), we use a refined four-variable thick plate theory to take the shear effect into consideration, the proposed theory less computationally expensive and more accurate so that it incorporates the shear effect into the formulation. The plate is assumed to be simply supported on its four edges, so exact (closed-form) solutions are found according to the Navier expansion, and the governing stability equations and associated boundary conditions of the problem are obtained via the virtual works principle. The plate studied ismade of laminated composite materials, so a parametric study is needed to see the effect of different types of parameters and coupling on the critical temperature value causing thermo-elastic instability of the plate and also on the natural frequency of free vibration, as well as for other parameters such as anisotropy, slenderness and aspect ratio of the plate and finally the lamination angle. Numerical results are obtained for specially orthotropic and antisymmetrical plates and are compared with those obtained by othertheoriesin the literature to validate the analysis approach used.
The composite sandwich plate is constructed by combining two laminated facings with high strength and a thick core of light weight material. The governing equations for the analysis of bending of simply supported sandwich plates with laminated facings are derived and analysed using the analytical method including the local shear deformations. The accuracy of the approach is ascertained by comparing solutions from the sandwich plate theory with composite facings to the laminate plate theory. Since the present analysis considers the bending stiffness of the core and also the transverse shear deformations of the laminated facings, it is expected that the analysis is capable to analyze the general anisotropic laminated plates with global shear deformations.
In this study, nonlinear response of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) plate under low-velocity impact based on the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach in thermal conditions is studied. The governing equations are derived based on higher-order shear deformation plate theory (HSDT) under von $K\acute{a}rm\acute{a}n$ geometrical nonlinearity assumptions. The finite element method with 15 DOF at each node and Newmark's numerical integration method is applied to solve the governing equations. Four types of distributions of the uniaxially aligned reinforcement material through the thickness of the plates are considered. Material properties of the CNT and matrix are assumed to be temperature dependent. Contact force between the impactor and the laminated plate is obtained with the aid of the modified nonlinear Hertzian contact law models. In the numerical example, the effect of layup (stacking sequence) and lamination angle as well as the effect of temperature variations, distribution of CNTs, volume fraction of the CNTs, the mass and the velocity of the impactor in a constant energy level and boundary conditions on the impact response of the CNTRC laminated plates are investigated in details.
The size-dependent vibration analysis of a cross-/angle-ply laminated composite plate when embedded on the Pasternak elastic foundation and exposed to an in-plane magnetic field are investigated by adopting an analytical eigenvalue approach. The formulation, which is based on refined-hyperbolic-shear-deformation-plate theory in conjunction with the Eringen Nonlocal Differential Model (ENDM), is tested against considering problems for which numerical/analytical solutions available in the literature. The findings of this study demonstrated the role of magnetic field, size effect, elastic foundation coefficients, geometry, moduli ratio, lay-up numbers and fiber orientations on the nonlocal frequency of cross-/angle-ply laminated composite plates.

The finite element analysis of plate and shell structures has been one of the major research interests for many years because of the technological importance of such structures. Quite often these structures are constructed by laminated composites. This is due to the high specific stiffness and strength of composite structures. The main objective of this paper is to extend the use of an improved degenerated shell element to the large displacement analysis of plates and shells with laminated composites. The total Lagrangian approach has been chosen for the definition of the deformation and the solution to the nonlinear equilibrium equations is obtained by the Newton-Raphson method.
In this paper presents bending characteristic of single wall carbon nanotube reinforced functionally graded composite (SWCNTRC-FG) plates. The finite element implementation of bending analysis of laminated composite plate via well-established higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT). A seven degree of freedom and $C^0$ continuity finite element model using eight noded isoperimetric elements is developed for precise computation of deflection and stresses of SWCNTRC plate subjected to sinusoidal transverse load. The finite element implementation is carried out through a finite element code developed in MATLAB. The results obtained by present approach are compared with the results available in the literatures. The effective material properties of the laminated SWCNTRC plate are used by Mori-Tanaka method. Numerical results have been obtained with different parameters, width-to-thickness ratio (a/h), stress distribution profile along thickness direction, different SWCNTRC-FG plate, boundary condition, through the thickness (z/h) ratio, volume fraction of SWCNT.

In the present study, modelling and vibration control of axially moving laminated Carbon nanotubes/fiber/polymer composite (CNTFPC) plate under initial tension are investigated. Orthotropic visco-Pasternak foundation is developed to consider the influences of orthotropy angle, damping coefficient, normal and shear modulus. The governing equations of the laminated CNTFPC plates are derived based on new form of first-order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT) which is simpler than the conventional one due to reducing the number of unknowns and governing equations, and significantly, it does not require a shear correction factor. Halpin-Tsai model is utilized to evaluate the material properties of two-phase composite consist of uniformly distributed and randomly oriented CNTs through the epoxy resin matrix. Afterwards, the structural properties of CNT reinforced polymer matrix which is assumed as a new matrix and then reinforced with E-Glass fiber are calculated by fiber micromechanics approach. Employing Hamilton's principle, the equations of motion are obtained and solved by Hybrid analytical numerical method. Results indicate that the critical speed of moving laminated CNTFPC plate can be improved by adding appropriate values of CNTs. These findings can be used in design and manufacturing of marine vessels and aircrafts.
The free vibration characteristics of corrugated laminated composite plates with axial stiffeners is investigated using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. The plate is stiffened by beams with open cross-section area. The equivalent homogenization model is used for the corrugated laminated composite plates. This homogenization model is treated a corrugated plate as an orthotropic plate that has different material properties in two perpendicular directions. The motion of equivalent plate is represented on the basis of the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) to account for the effect of rotary inertia and transverse shear deformation. Stiffeners are considered as discrete elements to predict the local vibration mode to be generated by the presence of stiffeners. To validate the proposed analytical approach, natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes from the analytical method are compared with those from the FEA by ANSYS.
A methodology to design symmetrically laminated fibre-reinforced structures under transverse loads for minimum weight, with manufacturing uncertainty in the ply angle, is described. The ply angle and the ply thickness are the design variables, and the Tsai-Wu failure criteria is the design constraint implemented. It is assumed that the probability of any tolerance value occurring within the tolerance band, compared with any other, is equal, and thus the approach is a worst-case scenario approach. The finite element method, based on Mindlin plate and shell theory, is implemented, and thus effects like bending-twisting coupling are accounted for. The Golden Section method is used as the search algorithm, but the methodology is flexible enough to allow any appropriate finite element formulation, search algorithm and failure criterion to be substituted. In order to demonstrate the procedure, laminated plates with varying aspect ratios and boundary conditions are optimally designed and compared.

This study presents a governing equations of bending behavior of anisotropic sandwich plates with multi-layered laminated composite faces. Based on zig-zag models for through thickness deformations, the shear deformation of composite faces is included. All edges of plate are assumed to be simply supported. Results of the bending analysis under lateral loads are presented for the influence of various lay up sequences of antisymmetric angle-ply laminated faces. The accuracy of the approach is ascertained by comparing solutions from the sandwich plates theory with composite faces to the laminated plates theory. Since the present analysis considers the bending stiffness of the core and also the transverse shear deformations of the laminated faces, the proposed method showed higher than that calculated according to the general laminated plates theory. The information presented might be useful to design sandwich plates structure with polymer matrix composite faces.
