Improvement of Fuel Economy in a Diesel Engine by Application of Low Pressure EGR System (디젤 엔진의 연비 향상을 위한 저압 배기재순환 시스템의 적용에 관한 연구)

  • LP(low pressure)-EGR system was investigated to evaluate its potential on fuel economy improvement and NOx emission reduction in a diesel engine. A diesel engine was tested for the evaluation of LP-EGR system at both of steady-state and transient test. For a transient test, control logic for LP-EGR valve operation was developed and a NEDC mode test was conducted by using a vehicle status simulation test. The steady-state results showed that LP-EGR system can reduce more NOx emission or fuel consumption comparing to the conventional HP(high pressure)-EGR. From the NEDC mode test, this LP-EGR system showed a possibility to improve fuel economy without a penalty of emissions.

Low Power Design of a MIPI Digital D-PHY for the Mobile Signal Interface (모바일 기기 신호 인터페이스용 MIPI 디지털 D-PHY의 저전력 설계)

  • In this paper, we design digital D-PHY link chip controling DSI (Display Serial Interface) that meets MIPI (Mobile Industry Processor Interface) standard. The D-PHY supports a high-speed (HS) mode for fast data traffic and a low-power (LP) mode for control transactions. For low power consumption, the unit blocks in digital D-PHY are optionally switched using the clock gating technique. The proposed low power digital D-PHY is simulated and compared with conven tional one about power consumption on each transaction mode. As a result, power consumptions of TX, RX, and total in HS mode decrease 74%, 31%, and 50%, respectively. In LP mode, power reduction rates of TX, RX, and total are 79%, 40%, and 51.5%, separately. We implemented the low power MIPI D-PHY digital chip using $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS process under 1.2V supply.

단일 모드 광섬유의 길이에 따른 유효차단파장의 특성 측정

  • The effective cutoff wavelength of $LP_11$mode is measured as a function of fiber length for three types of single-mode optical fiber which have different characteristics in the index profile or the coating structure. The measured cutoff wavelength decreased linearly in a logarithmic scale of fiber length as increasing fiber length, and eventually became constant after 3km for two fiber types. It is found that the length dependence of cutoff wavelength is due to a mode coupling between the $LP_01$ and $LP_11$ modes.

Tunable Mechanically Formed Long-Period Fiber Gratings using Periodically Arrayed Metal Wires (금속선의 주기적인 배열을 이용하여 기계적으로 형성한 파장 가변 장주기 광섬유 격자)

  • In this paper, we have presented mechanically formed long-period fiber gratings using periodically arrayed brass wires with a $250-{\mu}m$ diameter and realized the function of current-controlled wavelength-tuning. With the thermo-optic effect of the surrounding medium around the fiber cladding, the continuous displacement of the resonance wavelengths is achieved through the resistant heat of the wire which changes the refractive index of surrounding material. The tunability for each mode as a function of an applied electrical power is investigated. When the glycerin is used as a thermo-optic material, the measured tuning ranges of $LP_{03}$ and $LP_{04}$ within electrical power of 20 W reach to 14 nm and 48 nm, respectively. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical that which is analyzed by a geometric-optics approximation.

  • We analyzed the receiving performance of the DVB-S2 transmission system in the BC(Backward Compatibility) mode. The transmitter employs the hierarchical modulation, and the receiver can be implemented by the direct demodulation or the hierarchical demodulation. The performance of each demodulation scheme is analyzed by a statistical method and a computer simulation for the AWGN and nonlinear channels. The ratio of the LP/HP streams which is proper in the domestic satellite broadcasting environments, is also suggested.

  • Because of the limited power resource, we need a reliable low-power media access control technique suitable for unmaned remote sensor operation condition for the unmanned sensor processor to perform the task in the remote wireless network situation. Therefore CSMA/CA and X-MAC is generally considered to effectively transmit the signal in the low-power wireless network. In this paper, we propose the more efficient low-power LP-MAC Technique which consumes the minimum power and transmits the data faster in condition that the mobile nodes' joining to and leaving from the network which consists of the fixed nodes is fluid. The fixed nodes operate in an asynchronous mode to perform the network self-configuration and transmit data faster to the mobile node which is frequently join and leave the network. When the mobile node leaves the network, the network's operation mode will be synchronous mode to achieve the minimum power consumption, thus the minimum power operation becomes possible.

  • A 1.8V 2-Gb/s scalable low voltage signaling (SLVS) transmitter (TX) is designed for mobile applications requiring high speed and low power consumption. It consists of 4-lane TX for data transmission, 1-lane TX for a source synchronous clocking, and a 8-phase clock generator. The proposed SLVS TX has the scaling voltage swing from 50 mV to 650 mV and supports a high speed (HS) mode and a low power (LP) mode. An output impedance calibration scheme for the SVLS TX is proposed to improve the signal integrity. The proposed SLVS TX is implemented by using a $0.18-{\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal CMOS with a 1.8V supply. The simulated data jitter of the implemented SLVS TX is about 8.04 ps at the data rate of 2-Gbps. The area and power consumption of the 1-lane of the proposed SLVS TX are $422{\times}474{\mu}m^2$ and 5.35 mW/Gb/s, respectively.

Design of double-clad, dispersion-compensating single-mode fiber with parabolic-index profile for $\lambda$=1.55 $\mu$m ($\lambda$=1.55 $\mu$m에서 포물선분포-이중클래드, 분산보상 단일모드 광섬유의 설계)

  • We design the single mode dispersion-compensating fibers (DCF) which may be necessary for upgrading the previously installed 1.31 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ optical communication system to the 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ system. To obtain the optimum index profile that allows large negative dispersion at 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, parabolic-index, double-clad fibers are analyzed by applying the 1-D FEM to the scalar wave equation of optical fibers. In constideration of macro-bending loss, the fibers are designed so that the cutoff wavelength of the $LP_{01}$ mode is greateer than 1.80 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The computer simulations show that the lower bound of the dispersion at 1.55 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ is limited to about -120 ps/nm . km for the fiber index profiles satisfying the $LP_{01}$'s cutoff condition.

  • 본 논문은 음성 및 음악을 위한 새로운 4kbps 다중 모드 하모닉 변환 여기 부호화 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 부호화방법은 음성/음악 분류기에 의해 분류된 신호를 각각 하모닉-잡음 여기모델과 MLT 여기모델로 부호화한다. 하모닉-잡음 여기모델에서는 전이구간과 유/무성음 혼합신호의 모델링오차 개선을 위해 MP(Matching Pursuit)방법과 혼합된 잡음스펙트럴을 표현하기 위한 캡스트럽 LPC 잡음 모델, 빠른 정현파 합성법을 제안한다. 음악에서는 비트할당 효율을 높이기위한 LP 적응 피크 분석을 적용한 MLT(Modulated Lapped Transform) 부호화 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법을 적용한 4kbps 음성부호화 방법은 전이구간에서의 향상된 모델링 구조를 보여주었으며, 주관적음질 평가 8kbps QCELP 보다 MOS 0.2 정도 향상된 결과를 얻었다.
