  • In this paper, we first review LDPC codes in general and a belief propagation algorithm that works in logarithm domain. LDPC codes, which is chosen for second generation digital video broadcasting standard, are required a large number of computation due to large size of coded block and iteration. Therefore, we presented two kinds of low computational algorithm for LDPC codes. First, sequential decoding with partial group is proposed. It has same H/W complexity, and fewer number of iteration's are required at same performance in comparison with conventional decoder algerian. Secondly, early detection method for reducing the computational complexity is proposed. Using a confidence criterion, some bit nodes and check node edges are detected early on during decoding. Through the simulation, we knew that the iteration number are reduced by half using subset algorithm and computational complexity of early detected method is about $50\%$ offs in case of check node update, $99\%$ offs in case of check node update compared to conventional scheme.

This method is reduced number of unnecessary iteration. Third, early detection method for reducing the computational complexity is proposed. Using a confidence criterion, some bit nodes and check node edges are detected early on during decoding. Through the simulation, we knew that the iteration number are reduced by half using subset algorithm and early stop algorithm is reduced more than one iteration and computational complexity of early detected method is about 30% offs in case of check node update, 94% offs in case of check node update compared to conventional scheme.

  • LDPC decoder architectures are generally classified into serial, parallel and partially parallel architectures. Conventional method of LDPC decoding in general give rise to a large number of computation operations, mass power consumption, and decoding delay. It is necessary to reduce the iteration numbers and computation operations without performance degradation. This paper studies horizontal shuffle scheduling(HSS) algorithm and self-correction normalized min-sum(SC-NMS) algorithm. In the result, number of iteration is half than conventional algorithm and performance is almost same between sum-product(SP) and SC-NMS. Finally, This paper implements high-speed LDPC decoder based on FPGA. Decoding throughput is 816 Mbps.

  • Density evolution was developed as a method for computing the capacity of low-density parity-check(LDPC) codes under the sum-product algorithm [1]. Based on the assumption that the passed messages on the belief propagation model can be approximated well by Gaussian random variables, a modified and simplified version of density evolution technique was introduced in [2]. Recently, the min-sum algorithm was applied to the density evolution of LDPC codes as an alternative decoding algorithm in [3]. Next question is how the min-sum algorithm is combined with a Gaussian approximation. In this paper, the capacity of various rate LDPC codes is obtained using the min-sum algorithm combined with the Gaussian approximation, which gives a simplest way of LDPC code analysis. Unlike the sum-product algorithm, the symmetry condition [4] is not maintained in the min-sum algorithm. Therefore, the variance as well as the mean of Gaussian distribution are recursively computed in this analysis. It is also shown that the min-sum threshold under a gaussian approximation is well matched to the simulation results.

  • Wireless sensor networks(WSN) technology has various applications such as surveillance and information gathering in the uncontrollable area of human. One of major issues in WSN is the research for reducing the energy consumption and reliability of data. A system with forward error correction(FEC) can provide an objective reliability while using less transmission power than a system without FEC. In this paper, we propose to use LDPC codes of various code rate(0.53, 0.81, 0.91) for FEC for WSN. Also, we considered node-to-node interference in addition to AWGN channel. The proposed system has not only high reliable data transmission at low SNR, but also reduced transmission power usage.

  • By automatically generating HDL codes from C/C++ source codes, HLS makes it possible to shorten FPGA system developing period through easy timing control and structure change. We designed LDPC encoder for telemetry standard 106-17 with Xilinx Vivado HLS and showed hardware structure can be easily adapted for different purposes through minor C code modification. Synthesis results targeting Spartan-7 xc7s100 device are presented for throughput and hardware complexity comparison.

  • A low density parity check (LDPC) decoder provides a most powerful error control capability for mobile communication devices and storage systems, due to its performance being close to Shannon's limit. In this paper, we introduce an efficient overlapped LDPC decoding algorithm using a upper dual-diagonal parity check matrix structure. By means of this algorithm, the LDPC decoder can concurrently execute parts of the check node update and variable node update in the sum-product algorithm. In this way, we can reduce the number of clock cycles per iteration as well as reduce the total latency. The proposed decoding structure offers a very simple control and is very flexible in terms of the variable bit length and variable code rate. The experiment results show that the proposed decoder can complete the decoding of codewords within 70% of the number of clock cycles required for a conventional non-overlapped decoder. The proposed design also reduces the power consumption by 33% when compared to the non-overlapped design.

  • This paper describes a layered LDPC decoder which supports block length of 1,944 bits and code rate 1/2 for IEEE 802.11n WLAN standard. To reduce the hardware complexity, the min-sum algorithm and layered architecture is adopted. A novel memory reduction technique suitable for min-sum algorithm reduces memory size by 75% compared with conventional method. The designed processor has 200,400 gates and 19,400 bits memory, and it is verified by FPGA implementation. The estimated throughput is about 200 Mbps at 120 MHz clock by using Xilinx Virtex-4 FPGA device.

  • This paper proposes a high-throughput and multi-mode quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoder based on a fully parallel structure. The proposed QC-LDPC decoder employs the fully parallel structure to provide very high throughput. The high interconnection complexity, which is the general problem in the fully parallel structure, is solved by using a broadcasting-based sum-product algorithm and proposing a low-complexity cyclic shift network. The high complexity problem, which is caused by using a large amount of check node processors and variable node processors, is solved by proposing a combined check and variable node processor (CCVP). The proposed QC-LDPC decoder can support the multi-mode decoding by proposing a routing-based interconnection network, the flexible CCVP and the flexible cyclic shift network. The proposed QC-LDPC decoder is operated at 100 MHz clock frequency. The proposed QC-LDPC decoder supports multi-mode decoding and provides 8.1 Gbps throughput for a (1944, 1620) QC-LDPC code.

  • In this article a novel constant amplitude precoding for impulse UWB system is proposed. According to IEEE 802.15.4a, impulse UWB can be used in indoor localization and sensor data transmission. Most USN(ubiquitous sensor networks) needs multiple access. However impulse UWB system has a limited capability to detect superpositioned signal induced by multiple access. To overcome this problem we have adopted the concept of CAMC(Constant Amplitude Multi-Code) deviced by Wada and Kim. The proposed system consists of systematic constant amplitude precoding and LDPC decoding. And this system shows a good BER performance in computer simulation.
