There have been many requests for development of senior housing in Korea. Therefore it was very important to review how senior houses are established and managed in other countries. In this point, this research compared the actual conditions of the homes for the elderly in the U.K, U.S.A and Japan. Through the process, this research aimed to find the implications for Korea. The research was conducted by the literature review on senior congregate housing with Franklin's(1998) social constructionism perspective. This kind of research might be utilized as a theoretical framework for performance of any systems of housing for the aged. In this study, the researchers suggested the implications of senior congregate housing as follows. Firstly, in terms of structural context, government in the U.K, U.S.A., and Japan were positively concerned with solving the housing problems for senior citizens despite some differences. Secondly, from an institutional context, institutions related with provision, construction, and management of senior congregate housing were systematically consolidated and they all adapted the housing and welfare policy. Thirdly, in organizational context, there was an organization in charge of provision and management that exclusively oversaw the housing for the elderly in both the public and private sectors. Fourthly, in operational context, standards regarding space were clearly set both for individual units and common spaces as well as for facilities and services for the residents. Finally in terms of intersubjective context, the competency of housing manager and ways to involve the families which were important for residents' independent life were under study.
Regarding leisure and work as very important in residential life of old ages, this study analyzed their preference by leisure and work for senior congregate housing, which can provide proper work and leisure activities for older people who are able to manage their social activities with healthy condition. It conducted a survey of middle aged of the 50's who would face problems of senior housing in 2010, with stratified sampling by region, sex and housing structure type. Totally 556 Questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The research results showed that, first, the group which was positive toward their works mostly had spouse of the age of early 50' s and work for professional, technological, managerial positions with good health. Second, the more positive group towards their work showed high willingness to move in senior congregate housing, than a negative group towards their work, and put a weight on the openness of shared space and facilities as well as various alarming equipments, common space, common programs and the ability of managers. Third, according to the attitudes toward leisure activities, there were differences in each group by housing structure type, education of their own or their spouses, monthly income, property, economic ability, health condition, living together with spouse, housing tenureship, and usable area of houses. The fourth was that those who enjoy active leisure activities presented high willingness to move in senior congregate housing than those of negative attitude and also there was a difference in managerial ways. Throughout the results of the study, it appeared that a group of positive attitude toward work and leisure, than that of negative attitude, recognized the importance of senior congregate housing which social and leisure programs could support. It implied necessary to develop housing for the older people who have enough ability to manage their leisure activity as well as their work. The study is likely to have a contribution to suggest practical data for helping the development of housing for self-reliant seniors by analyzing their preference on senior congregate housing by their attitudes toward work. The research for the factors of various designs and managements by leisure and work may become the following research theme of the study.

This study defines the silver portal as a specialized internet portal that will be probably popular with the pre-senior/senior internet users who are over 40, sooner or later. The purpose of the study is to analyze what types of online contents on the silver portal are mostly preferred by the pre-senior/senior, and does the preference of those content types vary according to the demographic and the internet usage characteristics of the pre-senior. The study also is to suggest some research propositions, based on the analysis results, that could be applied to empirical studies in the future which deal with various research questions on the silver portal. To accomplish these research purposes, the study performed a survey for the prospective silver portal users who are living in the areas of Seoul and Kyeonggi, South Korea, and did various statistical analyses. This study found that the preference of content types of the silver portal vary according to some personal characteristics of the prospective silver portal users, and moreover proposed a few of research propositions on the relationships between personal characteristics and preferred content types.
The purpose of this study was to examine the mechanism through which Senior Center User's services satisfaction impacts quality of life. We were particularly interested in the mediating effect of empowering Senior Center users. bootstraping method based on structural equation modeling were used. The partial and full mediation model were compared and X2 difference test was conducted between the two models. The result showed that the mediating effect of empowering senior center user was statistically significant and accounted for the relationship between the senior center user's services satisfaction and quality of life. Empowering senior center user mediated fully the effect of senior center user's services satisfaction on quality of life. Practice and policy implications as well as further research topics were discussed to aid the search for highly effective interventions.
For the purpose of developing 'Web-Based Nutritional Education Program', this study analyzed nutritional problems of junior/senior high school students and set appropriate instructional goals for nutritional education program. Survey questionnaires were distributed from October 21,2002 to October 26, 2002 to a total of 564 students at three junior high schools and five senior high schools located in Seoul. The total number of questionnaires collected and used in our study was 479, which is 84.9% of the total questionnaires distributed. According to the survey results, three student groups (male and female students at junior high schools and female students at senior high schools) had lower than an ideal body weight. In case of their Basal Metabolic Indices (BMI), the female students and junior high school students showed a tendency to be underweight, while the other three student groups were within the normal range. The result of the survey showed that all four groups of students showed a deficiency in nutrient intake of calories, calcium and thiamin when compared with Korean RDA. Particularly, in the case of the female students at senior high schools, the deficiency of iron intake was a problem. The survey about food attitudes and food habits of the students showed that the senior high school students had more problems when compared with their junior high school counterparts (p < .001). Therefore, the instructional goals of nutritional education program were set as follows: 1) To improve the level of understanding and the perception of junior and senior high school students about the importance of a dietary lifestyle. 2) To change food attitudes and nutritional knowledge related to individual dietary 1ifestyle, so as to maintain good health through the enhancement of the students' physical activities. We found out that it is critically important to factor in the existing problems of food attitudes and food habits, as well as nutrient intake among junior and senor high school students when setting objectives for nutritional education programs. Background: Happiness is one of the most important indicators of health, wellbeing, and quality of life among older adults. The objective of the study was to investigate factors associated with happiness among senior citizens residing in rural areas using the 2017 National Survey of Older Koreans. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among 3,149 senior citizens living in rural areas using secondary data from the 2017 National Survey of Older Koreans. Happiness was measured by a single question and responses were recorded dichotomously. Descriptive and inferential statistics were computed at a 5% level of significance. Results: In all, 64.5% of the participants considered themselves as happy most of the time in the last 1 week. In the study, socio-demographic factors did not predict happiness except age. Satisfaction with a health status, financial situation, relationship with children, cultural satisfaction, and satisfaction with friends and society were positively associated with happiness among senior citizens residing in rural areas of Korea. Odds of reporting happiness were higher among those who traveled in the last 1 year, visited elderly welfare centers, and were involved in voluntary work than among those who did not. Conclusion: Happiness among senior citizen was significantly associated with life satisfaction with regard to health, finance, relationship with family, friends and society, and social activity participation.
In order to analyze possible effects of senior hospital selection factors and service satisfaction on senior hospital patients' revisit of senior hospital, this study surveyed guardians of total 204 patients hospitalized in major 4 senior hospitals in Busan. As a result, this study came to the following conclusions: First, it was found that guardians considered appropriateness of medical treatment cost as the biggest factor of choice, which was followed by kindness of doctor and hospital employees, locational accessibility (traffic convenience), and doctor's medical capacity. Second, the factor analysis about patients' satisfaction showed that the influential factors consisted of satisfaction at medical staffs, satisfaction at nursing and care, and satisfaction at facilities. Third, there was not significant difference in the overall impression of hospital and the intention of revisit depending upon sociological variables. Fourth, satisfaction at nursing and care and satisfaction at facilities had significant effects on better satisfaction at overall impression of hospital, and it was noted that the shorter admission period and the less complaint led to the higher intention of revisit. Therefore, it is necessary to improve satisfaction at medical staffs, nursing and care, and facilities rather than patients' own sociological characteristics.

Now that we are entering an aging society, the user interface for new devices and IoT technology is very inconvenient for senior generation. To improve this, we propose an AI technology-based intelligent senior assistant voice recognition system. This system implements Cloud platform based API to accumulate data for machine learning processing, provides content for diagnosis and prevention of dementia, and provide chat-bot content for senior generation. We hope that senior generations will increase the accessibility and convenience of IoT devices and new technology devices with our system.
In Scandinavian countries, where the society experienced change of typical nuclear family structure and higher vocational activity rates of married women earlier than East Asian countries, cohousing scheme has been evolved as an alternative housing to reduce housework for working women, and to reduce loneliness of elderly people who stay in their own homes. They can promote active mutual relationship among residents in the community. Korean family structure has been stemmed to more like extended family, but the tendency to live independently from their married children is getting more and more common in new cohort of senior citizens who are active, healthy, economically stable and higher educated. Korea has been industrialized rather rapidly since 1970's and faces to many societal phenomena about quality of life for senior citizens. Introduction of alternative housing solution for these senior citizens is necessary in Korea. In this paper, Danish senior cohousing scheme, particularly, self-work model project is described about its design feature in accordance to site planning, common facility, and dwelling unit. Aiming to mutual support and more frequent social contacts among residents, self-work model cohousing scheme has different design concept from the service mode scheme. Information about design feature of senior cohousing was collected from the published data with drawings and from field survey to 10 exiting projects in Denmark. Of those, 5 projects were described as a case study. It, hopefully, could provide practical information for architectural design when establishment of senior cohousing schemes start in Korea in the near future.
