  • Under 2009 Revised Mathematics Curriculum and 2015 Revised Mathematics Curriculum, mathematics teachers can help students inductively express real life problems related to sequences but have difficulties in dealing with problems asking the general terms of the sequences defined inductively due to 'Guidelines for Teaching and Learning'. Because most of textbooks mainly deal with the simple calculation for the sums of sequences, students tend to follow them rather than developing their inductive and deductive reasoning through finding patterns in the sequences. In this study, we reconstruct 8 problems to find the sums of sequences in MukSaJipSanBup which is known as one of the oldest mathematics book of Chosun Dynasty, using the terminology and symbols of the current curriculum. Such kind of problems can be given in textbooks and used for teaching and learning. Using problems in mathematical books of Chosun Dynasty with suitable modifications for teaching and learning is a good method which not only help students feel the usefulness of mathematics but also learn the cultural value of our traditional mathematics and have the pride for it.

  • In this paper, we investigate the causes and the characteristics of transformations of mathematics education in modern China, focusing on the contents of mathematics education in the Ming and Qing dynasties. In this process, mathematics education was investigated from the overall educational view of each dynasty, so the educational situation of each dynasty was also considered.

  • This paper is a sequel to [8]. Development of modern logic was initiated by Boole and Morgan. Boolean logic is one of their completed works. Cantor created the set theory along with cardinal and ordinal numbers. His theory on infinite sets brought about a remarkable development on modern mathematical theory, but generated many paradoxes (e.g. Russell Paradox) that in turn motivated mathematicians to solve them. Further, mathematicians attempted to construct sound foundations for Mathematics. As a result three important schools of thought were formed in relation to fundamentals of mathematics for the resolution of paradoxes of set theory, namely logicism developed by Russell and Whitehead, intuitionism lead by Brouwer and formalism contended by Hilbert and Bernays. In this paper, we examine the logic for intuitionism which is originated by Brouwer in 1908 and study Heyting algebra.

  • The thesis is about the development of mathematics starting from the old Greece and the old Babylonia. The modem mathematics has been developed, based on the set theory in the axiomatic method since the 19th century. The primary impetus of this thesis will be to summary the development of topology.

  • Sang-Seol Lee(1870-1917) wrote a manuscript BaekSeungHoCho(百勝胡艸) in the late 19th century. BaekSeungHoCho was transcribed in classical Chinese from the 1879 Japanese book Physics(物理學) by Teizo Ihimori (1851-1916). Sang-Seol Lee, a famous independence activist, is also called Father of the Modern Mathematics Education of Korea, because of his early contribution to the modern mathematics education in the 19th century. In this paper, we introduce contents of his manuscript BaekSeungHoCho for the first time and discuss the significance of this book. Also, we show his contribution on the introduction to modern physics in the late 19th century Korea.

  • Recently Machine Learning algorithms are widely used to process Big Data in various applications and a lot of these applications are executed in run time. Therefore the speed of Machine Learning algorithms is a critical issue in these applications. However the most of modern iteration Machine Learning algorithms use a successive iteration technique well-known in Numerical Linear Algebra. But this technique has a very low convergence, needs a lot of iterations to get solution of considering problems and therefore a lot of time for processing even on modern multi-core computers and clusters. Tchebychev iteration technique is well-known in Numerical Linear Algebra as an attractive candidate to decrease the number of iterations in Machine Learning iteration algorithms and also to decrease the running time of these algorithms those is very important especially in run time applications. In this paper we consider the usage of Tchebychev iterations for acceleration of well-known K-Means and SVM (Support Vector Machine) clustering algorithms in Machine Leaning. Some examples of usage of our approach on modern multi-core computers under Apache Spark framework will be considered and discussed.

  • Science, technology and machine aesthetics were the main theme of architectural design in the first machine age. Modern architecture used the theory of science as its framework. But the theory of science was used not as a professional way, but as a pseudo-scientific way by modern architects. It was because that modern architects relied on the spiritual, mystical realm of science and mathematics. Moreover, the avant-garde movement in modernism used the theory of science and mathematics for its complicated and ailenated nature and scientific image. The pseudo-scientifism in architectural design in the first machine age was expressed mainly as a concentration on the 4th dimensional space and the use of symbolic image of science and technology.

  • This study analyzed the mathematics textbooks of middle grades in the first Korean curriculum, based on the modern trends of mathematics education curriculum, comparing with present Korean curriculum's other textbooks and the American textbook, MiC. The mathematics textbooks in the first Korean curriculum are based on various situations in our real life and introduce mathematical concepts throughout a set of mathematics problems. The textbooks present mathematical concepts with connected knowledge and include mathematical activities which make students use mathematical table, graph and formula at the same time. And students are actively required to discuss together during the mathematics problem solving process. As the results of this modern review on Korean 1st curriculum and middle grades mathematics textbooks, it would provide preliminary data and meaningful implications for the next curriculum and concomitant instructional materials.

  • Both history of mathematics and education of mathematics is old subject. The question arises wether can these two important subjects can help each other or not. Unfortunately this idea made mathematics society into two groups; one has idea that history of mathematics can help education of mathematics and other group has idea that not only history of mathematics can not help education of mathematics but also it makes some confusion. In this article the author is going to do some comparison and take some conclusion that history of mathematics can make education of mathematics so active and interesting.
