Dressing Practices of Residents at the Woinarodo Region (외나로도지역의 의생활)

  • The purpose of this study is to look into dressing practices at the Woinarodo region in terms of ordinary and ritual clothes. Men wore Bqji(trousers) and Jeokori(jackets) as their plain clothes and sometimes Jangsam mid Durumaki(topcoat). During the period of Japanese colony, men wore Western-style clothes. For women it was basic to wear Chima(skirts) and Jeokori. And they preferred Momppe rather when in Japanese rule. In arrangements for their head, men put on gut, and had their hair cut during Japanese nile. Women laid a bundle of their braided hairs on the head or braided their hair, while married women did their hair up in a chignon during the ruling period People of the region put on straw and leather shoes, and then rubber ones since the late 1930s. Hand weaving was a major means of living for women at the region. Ramie, hemp and cotton were mainly weaved by hand. Starching was applied mainly to ramie and cotton. Glues for starching were made of raw rices, cooked rices, wheat flour or gloiopeltis tenax. For ritual clothes, especially in wedding, bridegrooms arranged themselves with Samokwandae and then Put on Baji, Jeokori, Durumaki and Danryung. But they Put on Western-style dresses as the liners of Danryung, and wear Nambawi Rather than the Samo after korean independence from Japanese rule. Bridges wore Chima, Jeokori and Wonsam and Chokdoori and covered their face with Hansam Wonsam did not be worn any longer after Korean independence from the rule. Shrouds for funeral ceremony were manufactured with silks, cotton and hemp, when the chief mourner wore hempen hoods and funeral robes, while women, Chima, made of hemp. and any type of Jeokori.

The Comparative Analysis of Understanding the Conceptions of Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Western Cuisine by SD between the Japanese and the Korean (SD법에 의한 한국, 일본, 중국, 서양 각 요리에 대한 개념의 일본인과 한국인의 인식에 대한 비교 분석)

  • In the survey of Korean and Japanese female students at the age of $20{\sim}22$, the conceptions of Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Western daily foods were recorded by SD and factor analysis and their perceptions about cuisine of their own countries and other countries in the diets of young people were figured out on the basis of their conceptions. The results are given below. The trends of perceptions about cuisine of their own countries and about Chinese and Western cuisine were coincided in both the Korean and the Japanese. The perceptions of their own countries‘ cuisine might seem to be traditional, familiar, cheap, and delicious. About Western cuisine, they felt that it seemed to be elegant and expensive but not familiar or delicious. Furthermore, the Korean had stronger perceptions about it than the Japanese had. For Chinese cuisine, the Korean felt the same as they did toward the Japanese foods just as the Japanese felt that the Korean cuisine was similar to the Chinese cuisine. The Japanese have thought that the Korean food-style was similar to that of their own country and Kimchi and Bulgogi have emerged in popular Japanese cooking. Also, they felt that the Korean cold noodle dish and Bibimbab were very familiar. On the other side, the Korean have become familiar with sushi, grilled meat, and Japanese noodles, but they were not familiar with other foods.

Fitness and Physical Properties in Current Stretch Fabrics for Bottoms -Focused on the Tight Skirt- (하의용 시판 신축성 소재의 물리적 특성과 맞음새에 과한 연구 -스커트를 중심으로-)

  • This study was investigated physical properties of stretch fabrics by KES-FB system to show suitable basic data to making skirts of excellent capacity and develop more organized basic skirt pattern by fitness evaluation. 1. The results of T. H. V.(Total Hand Value) were as followa: In the kind of blending fiber, cotton/spandex was more excellent than nylon/spandex and polyester/spandex, in the direction of stretch, one-way(weft inserted polyurethan yarn) polyester/spandex and cotton/spandex were higher than two-way(warp and wet inserted polyurethan yarn) polyester/spandes and cotton/spandex, two-way nylon/spandex was higher than one-way nylon/spandex. 2. The results of calculating the variance between sample stretch fabrics and Japanese s/s women's suit fabrics after standardizing were as follows: Stretch fabrics has 2 range of tensile, bending, shearing, compression, surface, thickness and weight as compared with Jpanese s/s women's suit fabrics. In the tensile property, one-way stretch fabrics were almost the same with Japanese s/s women's suit fabrics, only two-way polyester/spandex had+1~+2 range. In the bending, shear property, there was no difference between sample fabrics and Japanese s/s women's suit fabrics 3. In the total fitness of the skirt, nylon/spandex is the best in the fabrics and one-way stretch fabric is better than two-way strethch fabric.

A Study on the Bending Properties of Fabrics for Korean Women's Clothes (부인용 한복지의 굽힘특성에 관한 연구)

  • Bending properties of 168 commercial silk fabrics and polyester fabrics for korean women's clothes were tested by KES-F system. Samples were classified into for summer, fall & winter fabrics. In this study, bending regidity(B) and bending hysteresis(2HB) were measured, then 2HB/W, {{{{ SQRT { 2HB/W} }}}}, 2HB/B which are concerning to formation of weared clothes and transformation behavior were investigated. fabrics for korean women's silk clothes for fall & winter were compared with fabrics for japanese kimono clothes on the bending properties. The results were as follows : 1. The bending regidity of silk fabrics were higher than polyester fabrics and bending hysteresis of fall & winter fabrics were higher than summer fabrics. 2. The 2HB/W and {{{{ SQRT { 2HB/W} }}}} of polyester fabrics were lower than silk fabrics. 3. the silk fabrics for summer clothes were the least in 2HB/B. 4. Silk fabrics for korean women's clothes were almost the same in bending rigidity, bending hysteresis and thickness of fabrics for japanese kimono clothes, but weight of the silk fabrics were lower to fabrics for jpanese kimono clothes.

Ecological Changes of the Larix kaempferi Plantations and the Restoration Effects Confirmed from the Results (일본잎갈나무조림지의 생태적 변화와 그 결과를 통해 확인된 복원 효과)

  • Developmental process of vegetation over years after afforestation was analyzed in the Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) plantations with different stand ages. The height and diameter of Japanese larch increased rapidly until 24 years after afforestation and tended to be blunted thereafter. The density of Japanese larch was similar with each other in the 8 and 17 years old stands but was reduced greatly in the 24 years old plantation and changing little thereafter. The floristic composition of the Japanese larch plantation did not show any clear trend depending on stand ages. The differences of species composition among plantation themselves with different ages were bigger than those between plantations and the reference stands, Mongolian oak (Quercus mongolica) stands. Japanese larch plantations showed a trend of succession to native vegetation dominated by Mongolian oak based on the results of analysis of frequency distribution by diameter class of major tree species. Species richness and diversity of all plantations were higher than those of the reference vegetation. As were shown in the above mentioned results, it can be evaluated that Japanese larch plantations practiced in the level of the functional restoration achieved successful restoration based on the floristic composition similar to the reference vegetation, the successional trend toward native vegetation, and higher species diversity compared with the reference vegetation.

  • The purpose of this study is for researching consumptions of the Korean and Japanese's consumers and qualities on the bananas which rank first in market share of the fruits market. The survey was conducted from the 180 Korean women living in Gangnam and Bundang. It was also compared and analyzed on the basis of data from the Japanese's R company. This analysis was done using SPSS 12.0 Vir. and analyzed according to its purposes. First, the difference between Korea and Japan in terms of bananas intake was studied. Second, consumption situations and types of Korean and Japanese's women were compared and analyzed. Therefore, this is the basic analytic study for finding out Korean consumers' recognitions and purchase behaviors on the bananas compared those of Japan. This will be utilized as useful material to understand the domestic consumers' consumption behaviors of the bananas which are one of the imported agricultural products.

A Comparative Study on Differences in Preference of Various Teas Between the Koreans and the Japanese (각종(各種) 차류(茶類)의 기호(嗜好)에 관(關)한 한(韓).일(日) 비교(比較) 연구(硏究))

  • With a view to making comparative study and promoting the interchange of food culture between Korea and Japan, a sensory test was given to 60 female college students (30 Koreans and as many Japanese) in order to find out differences in preference of various teas between the two nations. The findings are as follows: 1. The correlation between each specific tea and total evaluation: Significant level of high positive correlation was indicated in case of color, taste, and aftertaste by both Koreans and Japanese. In case of odor, and flavor the Koreans indicated insignificant level of nought, and the Japanese significant level of high negative correlation one. In sweetness and total evaluation the Koreans indicated positive correlation and the Japanese insignificant level of nought. 2. Comparison of preference of various teas by the Koreans and the Japanese 1) Ginseng tea A and Ginseng tea B As to Ginseng tea A and Ginseng tea B the Koreans liked odor best while the Japanese liked flavor best. In general preference the Koreans liked them better than the Japanese, and both groups indicated significant level (p <.001). 2) Black tea A: As to Black tea A the Koreans liked odor best while the Japanese taste, and in general preference the Japanese liked them better than the Koreans and both groups indicated significant level (p <.001). 3) Black tea B. As to Black tea B the Koreans liked odor best while the Japanese color, and in general preference the Japanese liked them better than the Korean and both groups indicated significant level (p <.01). 4) Coffee A. The Koreans liked odor best while the Japanese flavor, and neither of the groups indicated significant level (p <.05). 5) Coffee B. The Koreans liked color best while the Japanese flavor, and neither of the groups indicated significant level (p <.05). 6) Green tea A and Green tea B. As to Green tea A and Green tea B, the Koreans liked odor best while the Japanese taste. In general preference the Japanese liked them better than the Koreans, both indicated significant level (p <.001). 7) Malcha (a kind of traditional Green tea) Both groups liked flavor best, in general preference the Japanese liked it better than the Koreans, and both groups indicated significant level (p <.001).

An Evaluation of the Foodservice Quality and Management of Preschool Foodservice Establishments by IPA - Focusing on Parents of Preschoolers in Metropolitan Area of Korea, China and Japan - (IPA분석을 통한 미취학 아동 급식의 급식서비스 품질특성 및 급식운영 평가 - 한국·중국·일본의 미취학 아동을 자녀로 둔 부모를 대상으로 -)

  • This study was targeted on the Korean, Chinese, and Japanese parents of preschoolers to investigate the importance and satisfaction of foodservice quality and the importance and performance of foodservice management of the preschool foodservice establishments. The present study conducted a survey on 390 randomly chosen parents of preschoolers (130 Korean, 130 Chinese, and 130 Japanese). Respondents' importance-satisfaction of foodservice quality characteristics and their importance-performance of foodservice management were measured. In order to test for differences between the groups, paired t-test, one way ANOVA, and IPA (Importance-Performance Analysis) were performed. The results were as follows. The importance of foodservice quality was significantly higher than the satisfaction on all items, according to the parents of Korea, China, and Japan. The importance of foodservice quality was higher in Korean parents than in Chinese and Japanese parents. According to ISA results with foodservice quality characteristics, the characteristics with relatively low satisfaction but high importance (II quadrant) was 'Diversity of menu' in both Korean and Chinese parents, and 'Sanitation of tables and chairs' in both Korean and Japanese parents. The importance of foodservice management was significantly higher than performance on all items in Korean, Chinese and Japanese parents. The performance of foodservice management was higher in Chinese than in Japanese and Korean parents. According to IPA results with foodservice management, the management with relatively low performance but high importance (II quadrant) was 'Preparation' in Korean parents, and 'Facility and equipment' in Japanese parents. Therefore, the items with relatively low satisfaction (performance) and high importance should be well-managed.

A Study of Women's Health and Disease through Advertisements in Dong-a Newspaper between 1920 and 1945 (1920년~1945년까지의 동아일보 광고를 통해 본 여성의 건강과 질병)

  • In this study, we investigated advertisements in Dong-a newspaper about gynecological drugs between 1920 and 1945 and analyzed the awareness of women's health and disease during the Japanese Colonial Rule. The advertisements included leukorrhea, oligomenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, feeling of cold, sterility, hysteria, and sexually transmitted infection and identified inattentive menstruation, improper intercourse, poor pre- and post-natal care as the cause for illness. This study includes the following limitations; it only analysed advertisements from Dong-a newspaper, and most of the drugs were manufactured in Japan and might not accurately reflect the health and disease of Korean women. Suggested future studies may include analysis of institute magazine and Japanese news advertisements during this period.

Japanese Female Marriage Immigrants' Dietary Life and Health-related Characteristics by Level of Dietary Adaptation after Immigration to Korea (일본인 여성결혼이민자의 식생활적응 정도에 따른 식생활 및 건강 특성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate Japanese female marriage immigrants' dietary life and health-related characteristics after immigration to Korea. A survey was conducted with Japanese women married to Korean men and having one child or more aged 7 to 18 years old. Data were collected from 243 women during the summer of 2014. A total of 204 questionnaires were analyzed, after excluding 39 questionnaires with a high percentage of incomplete responses (84% analysis rate). Over 85% of respondents were the members of the Unification Church, and over 92% of respondents had stayed in Korea for longer than 10 years. Based on the overall mean score for dietary adaptation level (3.68 out of 5 points), respondents were classified into two groups: low dietary adaptation group (mean score 3.12) and high dietary adaptation group (mean score 4.19). The collected data were compared between the two groups. The high dietary adaptation group reported higher percentages of decreasing consumption in processed food, confectionary, and bread than the low dietary adaptation group after immigration to Korea. A higher percentage of respondents in the high dietary adaptation group perceived their health status as good and reported changes that led to a healthier dietary life after immigration to Korea compared with those in the low dietary adaptation group. In conclusion, Japanese female marriage immigrants well adapted to Korean dietary life tended to eat healthier and perceive health status better compared with those who were not well adapted. The results of this study could be useful for prospecting dietary life and health-related characteristics of immigrant women in the long term after immigration to Korea.
