As a result of the enforced control of emission, many devices, including the diesel particulate filter, have been installed in diesel cars to reduce the emission of particulate matters. In this study, a car fire case has been investigated and analyzed. A car fire broke out after the vehicle traveled a distance of 1.4 km from a car service center. The car was provided with DPF cleaning when the DPF warning light came on. After being dismantled in the engine room, the car's engine and gearbox were investigated. The findings showed that the rear part of the DPF metal case was melted and punctured, while the honeycomb filter of the DPF was damaged. The car fire was caused by an overheated DPF associated with inaccurate maintenance practice. Therefore, the responsibility of the fire rested on the car service center that performed the DPF cleaning.

2009년 11월 14일 발생한 부산 실내사격장 화재와 관련하여 조사내용을 토대로 화재 시뮬레이션용 전선유체역학 모델인 FDS를 이용하여 재현하였으며, 시뮬레이션 결과와 화재당시 녹화된 CCTV 영상을 비교하였다. 2층 발사실에서 시작된 화재는 급격히 연소가 진행되어 약 3초 후에 휴게실로 확산되며, 약 7초 후에는 계단 및 1층 홀을 지나 사람들이 통행하는 인도에까지 연기가 분출되는 것으로 나타났다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 2층 발사실과 휴게실에 녹화된 CCTV 영상 및 1층 홀 옆의 귀금속가게에 녹화된 CCTV 영상과 거의 일치하였다.

In this study, we have investigated the maximum smoke density and the initial stage smoke density in order to see the characteristics of smoke release of the architectural surface materials and the architectural adhesives, using smoke density chamber. As a result of the study, polyurethane foam showed the highest smoke density index, 206.55 within 10 min. In the case of the other samples, reinforced styrofoam was followed as 39.90, general styrofoam 33.73, and glass fiber 5.40, respectively. In the intial stage of a fire, it is forecasted actually to give hardship at the clear visibility. In the case of architectural adhesives, the highest ranking was those for windows and doors 509.64, stone 275.63, wood 232.25, tile 18.65, and styrofoam 6.44 were followed, respectively. This result is an early research to show characteristics of smoke release through experiment. However, it is meaningful that this study can be used as a basic for further study on architectural fire hazard prediction.

This paper aimed to statistically analyze the impact of fire needs not considered in previous reports based on preventive and preparedness strategies of fire administration and fire budget.. The panel data came from 16 metropolitan councils from 2008 to 2018 and was statistically analyzed based on the preventive measures of the fire administration (agreement for building permission, specific target for fire-fighting, public use facilities, and special fire inspection [SFI]), preparedness of the fire administration (fire safety education [FSE]), response of the fire administration (mobilization for fire suppression [MFS] and mobilization for ambulance service [MAS]), and fire budget. In the results, SFI, FSE, and MFS had a significant negative influence on the fire budget. Meanwhile, MAS had a significant positive effect on the fire budget (p < 0.01). These results reflect public policy in Korea; there has been a paradigm shift in fire administration: from disaster acceptance (focusing on recovery) to disaster response (focusing on field response) to disaster preparedness (focusing on preparedness).

The several floor finishing materials that widely used in entertainment service industry buildings were evaluated according to the method of NES 713. Also, toxic gases of floor finishing materials in combustion without air flow rate were checked as concentration of fire gases variation according to time using gas analyzer. We had estimated the smoke hazard of floor finishing materials in fire. As results of gas analyses using the method of NES 713, toxic index of samples was estimated range of 2～9.7. Therefore, a large amount of toxic gases will release from a floor finishing materials fire and connoted great smoke hazard in fire.
