  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the long term mediating effects of Self-regulated Learning(SRL) in the Relationships among the Perceptions of Middle School Students on the Democratic Attitude of Parenting(DAP) and their Relationships with Teachers(RT), and their Self-esteem(SE). The data sources were from the first (2010) and the third (2012) Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS). As a result, first, the perceived DAP had significant effects on the students' SE both directly and indirectly through SRL. Second, the perception on RT had indirect effects on their SE mediated by SRL. Third, this pattern in first year continued in two-year-later-SE. This study implies that DAP, RT, and SRL play important roles in the continuous development of adolescents' self-esteem.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the influence of the self-identity, parenting style, peer attachment, and relationship with teacher on career identity, and to verify if self- identity shows the moderating effect in the relationship among the parenting style, peer attachment, relationship with teacher, and career identity of middle school students. The data of 3rd-year middle school students, from the 1st grade panel of 'Korea Children And Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS)' by National Youth Policy Institute, was used as the analysis data. The program which was used for the analysis was SPSS ver 22.0 for descriptive, Cronbach's α, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows. First, it was revealed that the most influential variable for career identity was self identity, followed by peer attachment, while relationship with teacher is least influential. Parenting style did not have a direct effect on career identity. Second, it was revealed that self-identity had a moderating effect when the interaction between parenting style and the self-identity, and the interaction between relationship with teacher and the self-identity were injected. Therefore, if the education related to the self-identity is conducted continuously in the home economics subject, the conflict and anxiety on the career problem of middle school students will be reduced and the career identity will be developed more effectively.

  • The purpose of this paper was to understand the mediating effect of academic achievement on the relationship between youth activity participation and career decision-making in middle school students. To this end, data from the KCYPS2018 (Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018) were used, and this research proceeded with 2,471 middle school 1st grade students. This analysis method was a regression analysis to examine any mediating effect. And the findings are as follows. Middle school students' youth activities participation had a significant effect on career decision-making and academic achievement, and the effect of youth activities participation on career decision-making was mediated in part by academic achievement. Thus, a variety of youth activity programs should be developed and provided to middle school students to increase their motivation and academic achievement. Education and training for youth leaders and teachers should be provided to help middle school students make career decisions by operating youth activity programs in conjunction with the free semester system.

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of adolescent development environment including parenting attitude, peer relationship, and school environment on delinquent behavior, and between these relationships, the mediate effect of media environment such as computer and mobile devices. The $6^{th}$ year data from Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) was used and the subjects were limited to 518 students of $7^{th}$ grade who are in their early adolescence. The result shows that adolescents under more affectionate, over involvement, and abusive parenting attitude will commit delinquent behaviors more frequently, and so does alienated youth from their friends. Parenting inconsistency and communication with friends make them use computer and cell phone more often, and excessive media usage increases adolescent's delinquent behavior. In conclusion, family environment and peer relation have influence on adolescents' delinquent behavior. Therefore, there is necessity to build development environment that prevent adolescents' delinquencies like parent education program or peer communication program for example. Also, proper education program for using computer or cell phone usage can reduce adolescents' delinquent behaviors, especially when its addictive aspect was recently issued.

  • This study aimed to examine the mediating effects of social withdrawal between adolescents' mobile phone dependence and the sense of community, and to secure the evidence data for adolescents' mobile phone dependence intervention. Among the 7th year data for the 4th grade students in the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), 1,979 students were included. The results showed that mobile phone dependence had a significant effect on the decrease in the sense of community and influenced the sense of community through social withdrawal. These results imply that positive intervention to reduce social withdrawal is needed and it can improve the sense of community in youth. Also, when we deal with weakening in the sense of community, we should consider convergent intervention in psychological and social aspects which deal with dependency, social withdrawal, and the sense of community.

  • This study investigated the influence of life satisfaction, accomplishment value, peer attachment, and relationship with teachers on the self-esteem of adolescents in three time points. The study population consisted of a nationally representative sample of middle school 1st grade students who completed the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS) of the National Youth Policy Institute in 2010, 2012, and 2014. Descriptive statistics used included frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation; in addition, reliability, repeated measure ANOVA, and regression results were reported using SPSS statistics. The results were as follows. First, this study showed that the longitudinal changes of self-esteem, life satisfaction, accomplishment value, peer attachment, and relationship with teachers were significantly different across three time points. Second, longitudinal changes in adolescents' self-esteem, life satisfaction, peer attachment, and relationship with teachers differed by gender, but accomplishment value did not. Third, life satisfaction was the most influential to self-esteem and peer attachment was the second most influential in the three data sets after controlling for gender, parents' academic attainment, and residential area. The influence of life satisfaction on self-esteem decreased across the three time points, but that of peer attachment increased over time. Instruction on life satisfaction and peer attachment needs to be more highlighted in Home Economics classes to enhance the self-esteem of adolescents.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine whether single-parent family status affects children's school adjustment through children's self-care and media exposure. In addition, the study investigated the mediating effects of self-protection and media exposure of children by analyzing whether single-parent family status has effects on school adjustment through self-care and media exposure of children. For this purpose, we used data of 1,916 students in the 4th grade who participated in the 4th year of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). The results of the structural equation modeling showed that single-parent family environment not only had direct effects on the school adjustment, but also had effects on school adjustment through self-care of children. In addition, it was revealed that self-care of children influenced school adjustment through media exposure. One of the covariates, monthly income of households, did not affect the level of children's self-care. This result draws attention to the problems of the structural deficit of single-parent families. Therefore, political measures that correspond to the structural characteristics and special needs of single-parent families, along with their current financial support, are needed to improve the level of school adjustment of children from single-parent families.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate factors affecting the somatizationof 4th grade elementary school students in South Korea. Methods: The research used cross-sectional data of 2,031 first grade elementary school students that participated in 4th-year Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Data analysis, which included descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression, was performed using SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: Aggression (r=0.60, p<.001) and depression (r=0.69, p<.001) showed significant positive correlation, while affection (r=-0.22, p<.001), reasonable explanation (r=-0.28, p<.001), peer relationship (r=-0.06, p=.001), and teacher relationship (r=-0.20, p<.001) were negatively correlated with somatization of elementary school students. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that depression (${\beta}=0.52$, t=25.52, p<.001), aggression (${\beta}=0.27$, t=13.30, p<.001), reasonable explanation (${\beta}=0.05$, t=2.99, p=.002), and affection (${\beta}=0.04$, t=2.13, p=.031) were significant predictors of somatization. This regression model has an explanatory power of 52.8%. Conclusion: To reduce somatization, it is necessary to develop a therapeutic intervention to change student emotions into a positive coping mechanism and strategy. The results of this study will contribute to the development of programs and practices for healthy school life.
