In this study, the effect of the solubility of ammonium metavanadate and the decomposition ratio of ammonium ions on a precipitation reaction-the precipitation of ammonium metavanadate by adding ammonium chloride to a sodium vanadate solution-was investigated. As the precipitation temperature and pH increased, the decomposition ratio of ammonium ions increased, and the decomposition ratio was greater than 81% at 45 ℃ and pH 9.3. This was approximately four times higher than that at pH 8. The result of the precipitation reaction, in view of these two factors that significantly influence the precipitation reaction, was that the precipitation yield increased as the temperature increased. However, the effect of temperature was not significant above 35 ℃. A kinetic study of the precipitation reaction revealed that the activation energy of the reaction was 42.3 kJ/mol. Therefore, considering the solubility of ammonium metavanadate, the lower the temperature, the better the vanadium recovery yield. Additionally, considering the decomposition of ammonium ions, the lower the pH of the aqueous solution, the more advantageous. However, at pH 8 or less, sodium polyvanadate is precipitated and the purity of vanadium oxide may reduce.

Because of a moving UAV has a lot of potential/kinetic energy, if the UAV falls to the ground, it may have a lot of impact. Because this can lead to human casualities, in this paper, the population density area on the UAV flight path is defined as a dangerous area. The conventional UAV path flight was a passive form in which a UAV moved in accordance with a path preset by a user before the flight. Some UAVs include safety features such as a obstacle avoidance system during flight. Still, it is difficult to respond to changes in the real-time flight environment. Using public Big Data for UAV path flight can improve response to real-time flight environment changes by enabling detection of dangerous areas and avoidance of the areas. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a method to detect and avoid dangerous areas for UAVs by utilizing the Big Data collected in real-time. If the routh is designated according to the destination by the proposed method, the dangerous area is determined in real-time and the flight is made to the optimal bypass path. In further research, we will study ways to increase the quality satisfaction of the images acquired by flying under the avoidance flight plan.

Underwater noise radiated from submarines is directly related to the probability of being detected by the sonar of an enemy vessel. Therefore, minimizing the noise of a submarine is essential for improving survival outcomes. For modern submarines, as the speed and size of a submarine increase and noise reduction technology is developed, interest in flow noise around the hull has been increasing. In this study, a noise analysis technique was developed to predict flow noise generated around a submarine shape considering the free surface effect. When a submarine is operated near a free surface, turbulence-induced noise due to the turbulence of the flow and bubble noise from breaking waves arise. First, to analyze the flow around a submarine, VOF-based incompressible two-phase flow analysis was performed to derive flow field data and the shape of the free surface around the submarine. Turbulence-induced noise was analyzed by applying permeable FW-H, which is an acoustic analogy technique. Bubble noise was derived through a noise model for breaking waves based on the turbulent kinetic energy distribution results obtained from the CFD results. The analysis method developed was verified by comparison with experimental results for a submarine model measured in a Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT).

Nickel cobalt ferrite($Ni_{0.5}Co_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$) powder was prepared through the ceramic route by the calcination of a stoichiometric mixture of NiO, CoO and $Fe_2O_3$ at $1100^{\circ}C$. The pressed pellets of $Ni_{0.5}Co_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ were isothermally reduced in pure hydrogen at $800{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$. Based on the thermogravimetric analysis, the reduction behavior and the kinetic reaction mechanisms of the synthesized ferrite were studied. The initial ferrite powder and the various reduction products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, reflected light microscope and vibrating sample magnetometer to reveal the effect of hydrogen reduction on the composition, microstructure and magnetic properties of the produced Fe-Ni-Co alloy. The arrhenius equation with the approved mathematical formulations for the gas solid reaction was applied to calculate the activation energy($E_a$) and detect the controlling reaction mechanisms. In the initial stage of hydrogen reduction, the reduction rate was controlled by the gas diffusion and the interfacial chemical reaction. However, in later stages, the rate was controlled by the interfacial chemical reaction. The nature of the hydrogen reduction and the magnetic property changes for nickel cobalt ferrite were compared with the previous result for nickel ferrite. The microstructural development of the synthesized Fe-Ni-Co alloy with an increase in the reduction temperature improved its soft magnetic properties by increasing the saturation magnetization($M_s$) and by decreasing the coercivity($H_c$). The Fe-Ni-Co alloy showed higher saturation magnetization compared to Fe-Ni alloy.

The PdO nanoparticle with large surface area was selected to solve the environmental pollution problem at fire range caused by high energy explosives research department explosive (RDX) and high melting explosive (HMX). By simulating water pollution, RDX and HMX nitramine explosives were dissolved in water, followed by the degradation reaction at 313 K by adding PdO. In order to measure the degradation reaction rate of explosives, 1H NMR was used, which can monitor the reaction rate without losing sample during reaction, and observe the progress of the reaction through the spectrum. The results showed that the degradation of RDX and HMX by PdO nanoparticles are pseudo-first order reaction. The degradation of explosives compounds were observed via the chemical shift and peak intensity analysis of NMR peaks. The measured rate constants for these reactions of RDX and HMX were 2.10 × 10-2 and 6.35 × 10-4 h-1, respectively. This study showed that the application of PdO nanoparticles for explosives degradation is a feasible option.

Recently, the frequency of torrential rain is increasing due to climate change, which causes a large amount of debris flows. The purpose of this study was to understand the flow characteristics of debris flow according to the change in channel slope and volumetric sediment concentration and to analyze the effects of a berm on the flow characteristics of debris flow. The flow characteristics of debris flow, such as flow velocity, flow depth, Froude number, and flow resistance coefficients, were calculated using laboratory tests. The effect of a berm was analyzed by comparing the experimental results of a linear channel with those of a one-stepped channel. The results showed that the channel slope affected the flow velocity and flow depth, and the volumetric sediment concentration affected the flow velocity and flow depth, Froude number, and flow resistance coefficient. Moreover, as a berm was installed, the flow velocity and flow depth decreased by up to 26.1% and 71.2%, respectively. This means that installing a berm reduces the flow velocity, thereby reducing the mobility and kinetic energy. These results provide useful information to understand better the flow characteristics of debris flow and the effectiveness of a berm.
This research work presents an experimental study's outcomes to reveal the impact of an O-ring on the flow control over a sphere placed in a turbulent boundary layer. The investigation is performed quantitatively and qualitatively using particle image velocimetry (PIV) and dye visualization. The sphere model having a diamater of 42.5 mm is located in a turbulent boundary layer flow over a smooth plate for gap ratios of 0≤G/D≤1.5 at Reynolds number of 5 × 103. Flow characteristics, including patterns of instantaneous vorticity, streaklines, time-averaged streamlines, velocity vectors, velocity fluctuations, Reynolds stress correlations, and turbulence kinetic energy (), are compared and discussed for a naked sphere and spheres having O-rings. The boundary layer velocity gradient and proximity of the sphere to the flat plate profoundly influence the flow dynamics. At proximity ratios of G/D=0.1 and 0.25, a wall jet is formed between lower side of the sphere and flat plate, and velocity fluctuations increase in regions close to the wall. At G/D=0.25, the jet flow also induces local flow separations on the flat plate. At higher proximity ratios, the velocity gradient of the boundary layer causes asymmetries in the mean flow characteristics and turbulence values in the wake region. It is observed that the O-ring with various placement angles (𝜃) on the sphere has a considerable alteration in the flow structure and turbulence statistics on the wake. At lower placement angles, where the O-ring is closer to the forward stagnation point of the sphere, the flow control performance of the O-ring is limited; however, its impact on the flow separation becomes pronounced as it is moved away from the forward stagnation point. At G/D=1.50 for O-ring diameters of 4.7 (2 mm) and 7 (3 mm) percent of the sphere diameter, the -ring exhibits remarkable flow control at 𝜃=50° and 𝜃=55° before laminar flow separation occurrence on the sphere surface, respectively. This conclusion is yielded from narrowed wakes and reductions in turbulence statistics compared to the naked sphere model. The O-ring with a diameter of 3 mm and placement angle of 50° exhibits the most effective flow control. It decreases, in sequence, streamwise velocity fluctuations and length of wake recovery region by 45% and 40%, respectively, which can be evaluated as source of decrement in drag force.

This study conducts Hypervelocity Impact(HVI) simulations considering space objects with various shapes and different impact angles. A commercial nonlinear structural dynamics analysis code, LS-DYNA, is used for the present simulation study. The Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic(SPH) method is applied to represent the impact phenomena with hypervelocity. Mie-Grüneisen Equation of State and Johnson-Cook material model are used to consider nonlinear structural behaviors of metallic materials. The space objects with various shapes are modeled as a sphere, cube, cylinder, and cone, respectively. The space structure is modeled as a thin plate(200 mm×200 mm×2 mm). HVI simulations are conducted when space objects with various shapes with 4.119 km/s collide with the space structures, and the impact phenomena such as a debris cloud are analyzed considering the space objects with various shapes having the same mass at the different impact angles of 0°, 30° and 45° between the space object and space structure. Although space objects have the same kinetic energy, different debris clouds are generated due to different shapes. In addition, it is investigated that the size of the debris cloud is decreased by impact angles.

The temporal distribution of the turbulence kinetic energy (TKE) and the vertical component of Reynolds stresses ($-{\bar{u^{\prime}w^{\prime}}}$) was measured during one wave period under high wave energy conditions. The wave data were obtained at Hujeong Beach in the east coast of Korea at January 14~18 of 2017 when an extratropical cyclone was developed in the East Sea. Among the whole thousands of waves measured during the period, hundreds of regular waves that had with similar pattern were selected for the analysis in order to give three representing mean wave patterns using the ensemble average technique. The turbulence properties were then estimated based on the selected wave data. It is interesting to find out that $-{\bar{u^{\prime}w^{\prime}}}$ has one clear peak near the time of flow reversal while TKE has two peaks at the corresponding times of maximum cross-shore velocity magnitudes. The distinguished pattern of Reynolds stress indicates that vertical fluxes of such properties as suspended sediments may be enhanced at the time when the horizontal flow direction is reversed to disturb the flows, supporting the turbulence convection process proposed by Nielsen (1992). The characteristic patterns of turbulence properties are examined using the CADMAS-SURF Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model. Although the model can reasonably simulate the distribution of TKE pattern, it fails to produce the $-{\bar{u^{\prime}w^{\prime}}}$ peak at the time of flow reversal, which indicates that the application of RANS model is limited in the prediction of some turbulence properties such as Reynolds stresses.

An investigation for removal of 1-indanone (1-ID), which were commonly produced from the biological and/or chemical treatment and natural weathering of the PAHs-contaminated soils, via oxidative transformation mediated by birnessite in the presence of various phenolic mediators is described. This study also examines the potential effect of the natural occurring substance humic acid (HA) on the oxidative transformation. The experiment was carried out in aqueous phase as a batch test (10 mg/L 1-ID, 0.3 mM phenolic mediators, $1.0g/L\;{\delta}-MnO_2$, at pH 5). All of the 11 tested phenoilic mediators belong to the group of natural occurring phenols and are widely used as model constituents of humic substances. From the results of HPLC analysis, it is demonstrated that 1-ID was not reactive to birnessite itself, but it can be effectively removed in birnessite-mediated cross coupling reactions in the presence of the phenolic mediators. The percent removals of 1-ID after 2 day incubation were ranged from 9.2 to 71.2% depending on the phenolic mediators applied. The initial rate constant ($K_{int}$, $hr^{-1}$) values for the 1-ID removals obtained from the pseudo-first-order kinetic plots also widely ranged from 0.18 to 15.0. Results of the correlative analysis between the removal efficiencies and structural characteristics of phenolic mediators indicate that the transformation of the 1-ID was considerably enhanced by the addition of electron-donating substituents (e.g., -OH, $-OCH_3$) at the benzne ring, and much less enhanced by the addition of electron-withdrawing substituents (e.g., -COOH, -CHO). The presence of HA showed that removal efficiencies of 1-ID in the birnessite-phenolic mediator systems decreased with increasing HA concentrations. However at low concentration of HA (< 2 mg/L), it caused some enhancement in the removals of 1-ID as compared to the control.
