  • The process optimization was carried out to improve the throwing power (TP) and the thickness uniformity of the electroless copper (Cu) plating, which plays a seed layer for the subsequent electroplating. The DOE (design of experiment) was employed to screen key factors out of all available operation parameters to influence the TP and thickness uniformity the most. It turned out that higher Cu ion concentration and lower plating temperature are advantageous to accomplish uniform via filling and they are accounted for based on the surface reactivity. To visualize what occurred experimentally and evaluate the phenomena qualitatively, the kinetic Monte Carlo (MC) simulation was introduced. The combination of neatly designed experiments by DOE and supporting theoretical simulation is believed to be inspiring in solving similar kinds of problems in the relevant field.

  • The unstructured model was tested to describe mycelial growth, exopolysaccharide formation, and substrate consumption in submerged mycelial culture of Paeeiliomyees tenuipes C240. The Logistic equation for mycelial growth, the Luedeking-Piret equation for exopolysaccharide formation, and LuedekingPiret-like equations for glucose consumptions were successfully incorporated into the model. The value of the key kinetic constants were: maximum specific growth rate ${\mu}m,\;0.7281\;h^{-1};$ growthassociated constant for exopolysaccharide production $(\alpha),\;0.1743g(g\;cells)^{-1}$; non-growth associated constant for exopolysaccharide production $(\beta),\;0.0019g(g\;cells)^{-1}\;;$ maintenance coefficient $(m_s),\;0.0572g\;(g\;cells)^{-1}$. When compared with batch experimental data, the model successfully provided a reasonable description for each parameter during the entire growth phase. The model showed that the production of exopolysaccharide in P. tenuipes C240 was growth-associated. The model tested in the present study can be applied to the design, scale-up, and control of fermentation process for other kinds of basidiomycetes or ascomycetes.

  • To improve the $NO_X$ conversion over a SCR (selective catalytic reduction) catalyst, the DOC (diesel oxidation catalyst) is usually placed upstream of the SCR catalyst to enhance the fast SCR reaction ($4NH_3+2NO+2NO_2{\rightarrow}4N_2+6H_2O$) using equimolar amounts of NO and $NO_2$. Here, a ratio of $NO_2/NO_X$ above 50% should be avoided, because the reaction with $NO_2$ only ($4NH_3+4NO+O_2{\rightarrow}4N_2+6H_2O$) is slower than the standard SCR reaction ($4NH_3+4NO+O_2{\rightarrow}4N_2+6H_2O$). In order to accurately predict the performance characteristics of SCR catalysts, it is therefore desired to develop a more simple and reliable mathematical and kinetic models on the oxidation kinetics of nitric oxide over a DOC. In the present work, the prediction accuracy and limit of three different chemical reaction kinetics models are presented to describe the chemicophysical characteristics and conversion performance of DOCs. Steady-state experiments with DOCs mounted on a light-duty four-cylinder 2.0-L turbocharged diesel engine then are performed, using an engine-dynamometer system to calibrate the kinetic parameters such as activation energies and preexponential factors of heterogeneous reactions. The reaction kinetics for NO oxidation over Pt-based catalysts is determined in conjunction with a transient one-dimensional (1D) heterogeneous plug flow reactor (PFR) model with diesel exhaust gas temperatures in the range of 115~$525^{\circ}C$ and space velocities in the range of $(0.4{\sim}6.5){\times}10^5\;h^{-1}$.

  • Numerical analyses were performed on the heat flow characteristics of a heat transfer plate with six different shapes (basic, rectangle, triangle, wave type) to reduce the level of white smoke at a stack. In this study, to examine the heat transfer performance (heat transfer capacity, pressure drop, turbulence kinetic energy, heat transfer coefficient) on the heat transfer plates, simulations were conducted using the commercial computational fluid dynamics software, ANSYS CFX Ver.14 under uniform flow conditions. The thermal flow phenomenon in a channel with six heat transfer plates could be predicted adequately under uniform flow conditions. The heat transfer capacity, pressure drop, turbulence kinetic energy, and heat transfer coefficient were affected by the flow rate, aspect ratio and plate shape. These results provide guidelines to design an effective heat exchanger with the wave type to reduce white smoke.

  • In this study, we investigated the microstructural evolution of Al-Mg-Zn aluminum alloy billet during homogenization treatment using OM, SEM, EDS and DSC. There were numerous phases found, such as; AlMgZn, AlMgFe, and AlMgZnSi phases, in the grain of the cast billet. After 6 hours homogenization treatment, Zn was mostly dissolved, whereas, Mg and Si were only partly dissolved. Accordingly, only AlMgFe and AlMgSi remained. After 18 hours, all of the leftover Mg and Si were dissolved, leaving only AlMgFe, which was also found after 24 hours. The results of the alloy design program, JMatPro showed that Mg dissloved more rapidly than Zn. According to the homogenization kinetic equation, Mg and Zn are completely dissolved within 1.9 and 3.5 hours, respectively.

  • The rapid proliferation of oil/gas drilling and wind turbine installations with jack-up rig-formed structures increases structural safety requirements, due to the greater risks of operational collisions during use of these structures. Therefore, current industrial practices and regulations have tended to increase the required accidental collision design loads (impact energies) for jack-up rigs. However, the existing simplified design approach tends to be limited to the design and prediction of local members due to the difficulty in applying the increased uniform impact energy to a brace member without regard for the member's position. It is therefore necessary to define accidental load estimation in terms of a reasonable collision scenario and its application to the structural response analysis. We found by a collision probabilistic approach that the kinetic energy ranged from a minimum of 9 MJ to a maximum 1049 MJ. Only 6% of these values are less than the 35 MJ recommendation of DNV-GL (2013). This study assumed and applied a representative design load of 196.2 MN for an impact load of 20,000 tons. Based on this design load, the detailed design of a leg structure was numerically verified via an FE analysis comprising three categories: linear analysis, buckling analysis and progressive collapse analysis. Based on the numerical results from this analysis, it was possible to predict the collapse mode and position of each member in relation to the collision load. This study provided a collision strength assessment between attendant vessels and a jack-up rig based on probabilistic collision scenarios and nonlinear structural analysis. The numerical results of this study also afforded reasonable evaluation criteria and specific evaluation procedures.

  • It is preented the removable moving screen media-activated sludge (REMSMAS) process by using the biological fixed-film systems. The substrate removal kinetic difference between the aeration-only completed mixing activated sludge (CMAS) process and REMSMAS process were observed. The substrate removal kinetics were developed based on the attached and suspended microbial growths. The units of the aeration-only CMAS process were continously operated with the normal detention time of 4.5, 6, 9.5 and 12 flours studies after steady-state condition and the operating of the REMSMAS units conducted with the normal detention time of 6 and 12 hours studies in nonsteady-state condition. The feed solution was diluted 18 times to the raw starch wastewater in of order to maintain the proper COD (950mg/l) and BOD (450mg/l) concentration. Design parameters related to the suspended microbial growths were caculated by the equations used in the aeration-only CMAS model and these parameters used to evalute the kinetic constants in the REMSMAS process. The kinetic constant values of $Y_2,\;K_d,(\mu_{max})_s\;and\;K_s$ from Monod equations were respectively 0.78, 0.027/hr, 1.1/hr and 95mg/l in the aeration-only CMAS process. The value of the aera capacity (F) appeared to be $9.1\;mg/cm^2-day$ and the mean value of the saturation constant $(K_g)$ appeared to be 53.5 mg/l in the REMSMAs process. Also, the substrate removal .ate of the REMSMAS process was higher than that of the normal activated sludge process when this system was operated in steady-state condition. However, the rate was reduced as the critical operating day was approached.

  • The primary goal of this study is to define the future image of modern fashion. By review of many references, this study has examined predictable future in common, various researches on future, and futurism that appeared from art history. This study has also identified the trend of future image and the properties of the image in terms of fashion as well. The purpose of this study is defined as future image of modern fashion. First of all. through a large literature, this study is to examine general future and the study of future, to investigate futurism appears from art history. and to identify the trend of future image and the properties of the image in terms of fashion. The main results of this study include : 1) General future means forthcoming sometime or a state of life at that time, and future is not drawing near naturally in accordance with the passage of time. The future is developed according as which the owners of time have independent meaning and what they select. 2) The futurism had started with the background based on Darwins and Einsteins scientific theories and Bergsons and Nietzsches philosophical thoughts, which was then established by Marinettis Futurism Statement and Dynamism Theory of Umberto Boccionio, Giaomo Balla, Luigi Russolo and Gino Severini. As the purpose of futurism is to represent the dynamism of machinery and the beauty of speed, it has been developed toward op art and kinetic art including video art, laser art, and holography. 3) Fashion style and trend of futurism from the beginning of 20th century up to now can be defined as follows : Firstly futurism fashion represented by loud colors and geometric pattern appeared from 1910s to 1930s in the first place. Secondly, or art fashion and kinetic fashion appeared in 1960s due to the influence of op art and kinetic art which were developmental arts of futurism paintings. Space Look and Cosmo Corps Look that were designed by Andre Courreges, Pierre Cardin, Rudi Gernreich and Paco Rabanne, were also the trend of future image fashion. Thirdly, various materials and techniques developed this future image fashion in 1980s, and Glitter Look and Collage Look were its representative style. Fourthly, in 1990s, human beings dreamed the freedom of mind by human-oriented thought. and created the ecology of new concept mixed with technology due to anxiety on environmental destruction. which influenced on the advent of Zen style.

  • Proper design and improvement of the biofiltration process depend upon quantitative understanding of the kinetic behavior in the biofilter. This study was conducted to evaluate kinetics of biofiltration of gasoline vapor. Filling material of the biofilter was compost. Gas inlet concentration ranged from about $300mg/m^3$ to $7,000mg/m^3$. Gas velocities were 6m/hr and 15m/hr, respectively. At 6m/hr gas velocity, about 60% of gasoline TPH below $3,000mg/m^3$ was removed in the lower quarter part of the biofilter. First order kinetics described well the degradation rate of gasoline TPH with high correlation. First order kinetic removal constant at the gas velocity of 6m/hr was higher than that of 15m/hr from about $300mg/m^3$ to $7,000mg/m^3$. When the inlet concentration was over $3,000mg/m^3$, first order kinetic removal constant at the gas velocity of 6m/hr was over twice that at 15m/hr. In order to obtain over 80% of removal efficiency, gasoline vapor should be injected into the biofilter at concentration below about $2,000mg/m^3$, 100cm filling height and the gas velocity of 6m/hr.

  • In recent years, countries like Europe and Japan have been involved in many researches on the Low-Crested Structure (LCS) which is the method to protect beach erosion and it is regarded as an alternative to the submerged breakwaters, and compiled its results and released the design manual. In the past, studies on LCS have focused on two-dimensional wave transmission and calculating required weight of armor units, and these were mainly examined and discussed based on experiments. In this study, three-dimensional numerical analysis is performed on permeable LCS. The open-source CFD code olaFlow based on the Navier-Stokes momentum equations is applied to the numerical analysis, which is a strongly nonlinear analysis method that enables breaking and turbulence analysis. As a result, the distribution characteristics of the LCS such as water level, water flow, and turbulent kinetic energy were examined and discussed, then they were carefully compared and examined in the case of submerged breakwaters. The study results indicate that there is a difference between the flow patterns of longshore current near the shoreline, the spatial distribution of longshore and on-offshore directions of mean turbulent kinetic energy in case of submerged breakwaters and LCS. It is predicted that the difference in these results leads to the difference in sand movement.
