  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences of early childhood teachers' job satisfaction and burnout by variables and to analyze the relationship between the two subject matters. Then this study will serve to improve overall quality of early childhood education through fair comprehension about them. We surveyed 333 teachers in total, 171 public/private kindergarten teachers and 162 preschool teachers. A questionnaire by ECJSS of Jord-Bloom(1989) and Fleischer(1985) was used to measure the degree of job satisfaction, along with the version MBI(Maslach Burnout Inventory) by Maslach and Jackson(1981), adjusted by An, youngkil(I992) and Seo, jiyoung(2002), to check the degree of burnout. It was found that job satisfaction was higher among the surveyees of old age or with more education/less working hours. Small salaries, however, was one of the causes of low job satisfaction. Emotional burnout was shown in the surveyees of old age or with good education/career records. On the other hand, exhaustion from a lack of accomplishment was shown in single, young and low paid teachers. Thus, burnout and job satisfaction had a highly negative coefficient of correlation, meaning that job satisfaction gets high when burnout gets low.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of pre-service curriculums for child care teachers at universities and colleges in Korea. To accomplish this, a survey was implemented to gather the lists of courses from each department training pre-service child care teachers. A total of 225 departments at universities and colleges across Korea participated in the survey. The results showed that the 37 different courses offered for child-care teacher licensure were different by school type (university or college) and major. Departments in colleges with specific majors such as early childhood education and social welfare offer courses that are also required for other certificates, including kindergarten teachers or social workers, so pre-service child care teachers may not have the opportunity to take courses specifically designed for their specific teaching needs or interests. Accordingly, there may be a restricted number of courses from which to choose during pre-service training periods. Based on the findings from this study, several political implications for improving child-care teacher professionalism were suggested.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of experiences in close relationships with teachers for young children on their depression and to see whether there would be a mediating effect of their self-compassion. Methods: The subjects were 206 teachers recruited from Seoul and five different provinces who currently worked at the kindergarten and child care centers and agreed to participate in the survey. The data were analyzed by means of frequency, percentages, Cronbach's reliability coefficient and Pearson's correlation using SPSS 25.0 and model 4 provided in The PROCESS macro for SPSS 3.4 version. Results: The findings were as followed. First, the teachers' degrees of anxiety and avoidance for their close relationships were below the median scores. In contrast their degree of self-compassion was above the median score. In addition, their level of depression was relatively low. Second, both of the teachers' anxiety and avoidance for their close relationships had a positive impact on their depression and their self-compassion, and there were the partial mediating effect in both cases. Conclusion/Implications: These results imply that the early attachment experience connecting the experience in close relationships in the adulthood is important and that it is necessary to develop a program to enhance teachers' self-compassion to protect their psychological well-being.

  • This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of the forest experience center for children led by the local community as experiential management for forest kindergarten education. For this, an importance and performance analysis was conducted on the forest experience center for children in Geumcheon-gu, which, of the 12 forest experience center for kids in Seoul, is the only one led by the local community. The questionnaire sheet for the analysis consisted of a total of 36 questions, 20 about place facility areas and 16 about management program areas(including 6 questions about the management led by the local community). The questionnaire survey was done during the period between January 12th and January 19th, 2015. The participants in the survey consisted of 15 forest education specialists and 50 teachers from 19 kindergartens who participated in the forest experience program. The number of questionnaire sheets collected and used for analysis was 13 copies and 43 copies, respectively. The mean values of importance and performance on the place facility areas were 4.07 and 3.78 for forest education specialists, and 4.16 and 3.84 for kindergarten teachers, respectively. The mean values of importance and performance regarding the management program area were 4.38 and 4.16 for forest education specialists, and 4.40 and 4.00 for kindergarten teachers, respectively. Both groups evaluated the place facility areas lower than the management program areas. They also evaluated performance lower than importance. In place facility area, 'accessibility', 'safety' and 'connectivity to forest trail', 'loose parts' and 'safety facilities' were required to 'keep up the good work', because they showed higher importance and performance in place facility areas. Even though most items of management as led by the local community including 'forest experience activity support' were evaluated as 'important', some, including 'effort for local revitalization', were evaluated as low in performance. However, as they were evaluated as higher in importance, if they pursue 'concentrate here', it is expected that they will be evaluated as higher in performance. In addition, considering that program areas including 'forest education specialist's role' are labeled under the management led by the local community, it reflected a positive evaluation. As a result, management led by the local community is efficient as a management system for the forest experience center for children in an experiential forest kindergarten education. Going forward, if this management system is durable in 'keep up the good work' and 'concentrate here', the forest experience center for children led by the local community will be an alternative for an effective experiential forest kindergarten education.

To satisfy these purposes, 179 mothers and 175 fathers with 3 to 5 year olds, and 186 teachers and 59 directors of the kindergarten business were asked to complete a survey questionnaire designed for the study. The results indicate that for the present, most kindergartens in Daejeon have practiced parental education programs including weekly letters and parents' day. New subject- appropriate programs development is needed, though. The three groups of subjects had differing views on the need for parental education. The views tend to differ by socio-economic status of each group member, thus indicating the importance of developing and adopting various parental education programs and methods according to the difference. It will contribute to maximizing the effect of the education. Data collected in the study were expected to be used for the development of effective parental education programs.

  • This in-depth study of portfolio method centered on efficient methods of application, including teacher education. The study was carried out in 2 public kindergartens in Taegu. The efficient portfolio assessment method was developed by revisions after successive applications, observations, and discussions with the teachers of both kindergartens. The resulting efficient portfolio method is composed of step 1: portfolio conference and planning; step 2: development of the portfolio in the process of teaching and learning; step 3: selection of the materials for the portfolio; step 4: analysis of the portfolio; and step 5: use of the portfolio method. The practical application of the portfolio assessment is included in the forms used for teachers' observations of children's play and educational interventions. Teachers' interventions include verbal interaction, presentation of materials, and participating as partners.
