  • Objectives: Because of the characteristics of traditional Korean medicine, there are few overseas patents and SCI papers. Researchers are struggling to analyze the research trend using existing patent analysis system and paper analysis system. We aim to build up a web-based paper map analysis system for Traditional Korean Medicine to improve the situation. Methods: We studied the following three sub topics. First, we surveyed the research trend analysis method for traditional Korean medicine. Second, we designed a paper map analysis model and made the algorithm for it. Finally, the development of the paper map analysis system was conducted. Results: We developed a web-based paper map analysis system which has the three main functions being analysis chart, topology map and contour map. For the rich internet application, we used the flex development tool and java integrated development environment. Conclusion: We will provide our paper map analysis system in the OASIS through the minor changes to provide easy use. We hope that this system will be a useful tool to analyze the research trends for traditional Korean medicine.

  • Here, we present an updated checklist based on voucher specimens of vascular plants for Gasan Mt. which is located in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. The list includes 322 taxa in 212 genera and 81 families of vascular plants, of which 14 are endemic, six are rare plants, 48 are floristic target species, and 14 are considered naturalized in Korea. Based on voucher specimens, Gasan Mt. was the southern limit of Cimicifuga heracleifolia var. bifida Nakai and Iris odaesanensis Y. N. Lee on the Korean peninsula. Moreover, we confirmed a hybrid plant deriving from two Iris parents, I. minutoaurea Makino and I. odaesanensis, in a mountain fortress of Gasan Mt. We also present online databases including 325 voucher specimens deposited at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM; http://oasis.kiom.re.kr/herblib). This study has great significance as the first floristic study of Korean plants sharing virtual specimens online.

  • Objectives This study was to identify the types of errors in the statistical analysis and trends of previous reported papers that used various statistical techniques. Methods We have selected 118 original articles for statistical review from the OASIS(http://oasis.kiom.re.kr) and the Pubmed(http://www.pubmed.gov) in the field of Sasang constitutional medicine. Published year was restricted from 2011 to 2015.Results 1. The ANOVA(25.72%) was the statistic of choice overall, followed by the chi-square test(21.74%), regression analysis(14.13%), t-test(11.59%), and etc. 2. By examining the errors of the statistical methods, there were 42(59.2%) thesis with errors among 71 thesis using ANOVA, 19(31.7%) thesis among 60 thesis using chi-square test, and 35(89.7%) over 39 thesis using regression analysis. Conclusions To improve the quality of Sasang Constitution, the participation of statisticians in research design will reduce the significant errors in statistical interpretation of the results.

Methods : We investigated governmental and private research projects, reports and papers, and laws and systems on the forecasting projects. We reviewed them through the Traditional Korean Medicine Information Portal OASIS (http://oasis.kiom.re.kr), Korean studies Information Service System (KISS) (http://kiss.kstudy.com/) and DBpia (http://www.dbpia.co.kr/), Akomnews(http://www.akomnews.com/), THE MINJOK MEDICINE NEWS(http://www.mjmedi.com/), Ministry of Government Legislation(http://www.law.go.kr/). Results : Of the 12 forecasting projects, five were judged as 'realization', four were as 'partial realization' and three were as 'un-realization', The realization rate was 75.0%. Three un-realized projects included the TKM insurance coverage for various herbal medicines, leadership secure on medical technicians and commercialization of the TKM managing system on senior medicare policy. Realization of the future forecasting TKM policy projects was decided depending on conditions such as the importance, domestic capability levels, principal agents, methods and restrains. Conclusions : Continuous studies and new developed forecasting projects for the TKM policies will be required to realize the projects in the future.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze domestic qualitative research papers of the Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy and suggest the possibility of applying it to Korean medicine counseling. Methods: Domestic research papers were gathered by keywords 'Satire Counseling' or 'Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy' and 'Qualitative Research' in RISS (http://www.riss.kr/), KISS (http://kiss.kstudy.com/), OASIS (http://oasis.kiom.re.kr/). The results were seven papers. Seven papers were selected based on grounded theory and case studies. Researchers analyzed the phenomena during the course of counseling to discuss the mechanism of the Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy and consider its applicability to Korean medicine psychotherapy. Results: The Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy has three points: 'Self', 'Communication', and 'Family'. Positive changes such as 'Self-recovery', 'Consistent communication', and 'Recovery of relationships' are derived from these three points. And techniques such as iceberg exploration, family maps, three-members in a born family, and the family sculpture are also effective means. Conclusions: The Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy is valuable in the clinical fields of Korean medicine counseling, especially relative to problems stemming from relationships.
