  • Among various tools for pop music composition, what is most frequently used by K-Pop composers is the digital sequencer program, or DAW software (Digital Audio Workstation). When it comes to making commercial music such as K-Pop, the proportion of using these programs is extremely high. By using those software, composers come to undergo an entirely different art creation process. User interface (UI) of the DAW software has a profound effect on the process of making music, particularly vis-a-vis usability and visibility. This study is an attempt to analyze the Avid Pro Tool's UI with a focus on its inherent characteristics revealed in relation with the real effect throughout music composition. This study categorizes the UI elements in the Edit Window of the Pro Tools as Grid, Track, Slip, Clip, and Fade. Those categorized elements would be analyzed through Douglas Morgan's Creative-Process theory, thereby clarifying how visual interface of the DAW software functions in music composition practically.

  • This study analyzed expression types and characteristics of modern fashion designs using body parts. The research was conducted based on a literature review and empirical research of fashion magazines published in Korea and other countries from 2001 to 2008. Four fashion statements predominated. Most frequently, body parts presented in modern fashion design, included realistic expressions, simplification, anatomic expression and a mixture with other patterns and logos. A body part, such as an eye, a lip, a hand or a chest was characteristically located in an unfamiliar position, as part of modern fashion design using body parts. Other parts and surrealistic images were shown with accessories utilizing body shapes. Second, amusing images were emphasized with humorous expressions, including simplification of body parts, childish decorations, fairy tale illusions and cartoon factors. Third, erotic images were presented with a more realistic expression of a partial image of a female body part, such as a lip or a tongue. Fourth, the use of facial images of celebrities in modern fashion design showed the phase of the times and the characteristic utilization of pop art as an image.

  • 4-probe resistivity measurement technique was used to study kinetics of hydrogen absorption-desorption on Pd film($520{\AA}$ thick) at room temperature upto 1 bar. Kinetics data are fitted well to 1st order kinetics equation in ${\alpha}$ and ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phases. In ${\alpha}+{\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase, absorption kinetics was very complicated, but it could be explained partially with nucleation and growth process. Ln(dR/dt) vs. time plot gives rate constant k value(R is resistance of sample, t is time). k value for absorption is $4^{-6}{\times}10^{-4}/sec$ in ${\alpha}$ phase. k is increasing upto $4^{\times}10^{-2}/sec$ as hydrogen pressure increasing in ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase. k is proportional to ln(Pop/Peq), where Peq is equilibrium plateau pressure and Pop is the opposing pressure. In contrast to bulk sample k value was decreasing with increasing number of A-D cycling in ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ phase absorption.

  • This study examined how German newspapers and magazines report Korean mass culture, specifically what content on Hallyu (Korean wave) was present and what news frames were used. External characteristics, the content attributes, report trend, and news frames on Hallyu in the German media were analyzed. According to the results, German media from 2009 to 2014 reported the least about Korean wave with only a total of 78 articles. The greatest amount of articles occurred in 2012 when by PSY was a global success. The most common Korean wave articles focused on film and K-pop, but not drama. Hallyu news showed mostly a positive trend. Additionally, a thematic frame was used. Content revealed that a culturally interesting frame was most common. In order to improve the Korea image in Germany, it is proposed that 'the mediated Culture PR' be adapted to German media.

  • The research is centered towards analyzing the differentiation of the characteristics and organization of programming strategy and channel positioning by selecting Korean International Public Relations Broadcasting Stations Arirang TV and KBS World. According to the results, Arirang TV positions Korean culture content-implied educational programs as their strategy while KBS World places the main programs of KBS1, 2TV with many entertainment programs such as dramas and entertainment shows. Arirang TV's programming strategy is well-fulfilling the purpose of promoting Korea's culture contents by organizing their programming with documentaries, tourist information, and daily living information. On the other hand, KBS World works as the agent of the spread of the Korean Wave by filling their program with dramas and K-pop programs such as . Due to the difference in programming strategy of these two broadcasting stations, Arirang TV has positioned itself as a diplomatic channel to spread Korean culture and KBS World a channel representing the Korean Wave. However, there are problems of inefficiency due to recurrent investments because of the fact that both broadcasting stations' programming strategy is to promote Korean culture and spread the Korean Wave by aiming similar targets such as foreigners or overseas Koreans.

  • It is often desirable that manufacturers and users can convert the reference white of display into the preferred color temperature by controlling the color temperature that is one of representative color characteristics of a light source. Accordingly, this paper proposes an efficient method of color compensation for displaying the uncalibrated video signal in PDP-TV and is also shown to be successfully coupled with flexible color temperature conversion based on the signal processing technique.
