  • We study convergent influence on depression and its association with self-esteem, fatigue and psychosocial stress among General Hospital Administrative Staff(GHAS). The subjects were 201 randomly extracted GHAS from 9 general hospitals in J City, Data collection was carried out via a structured self-administered questionaries from Jul. 3rd, 2017 to Jul. 29th, 2017. Depression was positively correlated with three sub-domains of fatigue and psychosocial stress, and it was negatively correlated with self-esteem. With the analysis of covariance structure, depression was more influential on self-esteem than fatigue and psychosocial stress. The study found the higher fatigue and psychosocial stress, and the lower self-esteem tend to increase depression. The results indicate that the efforts, to increase self-esteem, and to decrease fatigue and psychosocial stress, are required to decrease the depression of GHAS. The results are expected to be useful for industrial health education and job management to decrease the depression of GHAS. In the following study, the analysis about convergent additional factors of influence on the depression of GHAS will be needed.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the relationship among clinical nurses' emotional labor, health promoting behaviors and premenstrual syndrome (PMS), as well as to clarify factors that affect nurses' PMS. This was a descriptive study of 195 clinical nurses working in one university hospital and two general hospitals in the C region. Data collection was conducted from Jul 3 until Jul 21, 2017. T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression were used for analysis. The mean score of emotional labor was $3.35{\pm}0.63$ out of 5, that of health promoting behavior was $2.08{\pm}0.40$ out of 4 and that of PMS was $2.94{\pm}1.09$ out of 6. Premenstrual syndrome was significantly positively correlated with emotional labor (r=0.292, p<0.001) and interpersonal relationships in health promotion behavior (r=0.208, p=0.004). Factors influencing PMS were interpersonal relationships (${\beta}=0.54$, p=0.001), emotional labor (${\beta}=0.40$, p=0.001) and degree of menstrual pain (${\beta}=0.14$, p<0.001), which explained 30.0% of PMS (F=9.33, p <0.001). The results of this study suggest that intervention strategies may be necessary to decrease PMS by reducing menstrual pain, emotional labor and interpersonal relationship stress.

  • This study was to provide basic materials to help reduce the fatigue by analyzing what effective factor the fatigue of hospital nurses in Gwangju and Jeonnam region. and what causes their fatigue. This descriptive research by Questionaires includes two hospitals in Gwangju. and seven hospitals in Jeonnam region, total 9 hospitals sampled at convenience sampling. The periods of collecting data was from Jul.22, 2002 to Jul. 30, 2002. Multidimensional Fatigue Scale; MFS, developed by Jang Se-Jin(2000) was taken to measure the fatigue. All collected materials were got the statistics by SAS for Windows Release 8.01. The result of this study was as follows. 1. This study included total 740 nurses, whose age ranged from 22 to 50; 30 years old by average. Nurses fatigue mean score was 90.24 (the scope by the measuring instrument is 19-133). Nurses at University Hospitals marked 92.36 and those at General Hospitals marked 87.91 in the mean score of fatigue. 2. They kept tired at work, and felt more tired while working at computer in the hospital. 3. The part of body in which they felt fatigue was the calf and $feet(36.6\%)$, the shoulders and back of the $neck(30.7\%)$, and the whole $body(10.8\%)$ and the reason that they felt tired at work was mental $stress(33.0\%)$, overworking(25.2\%)$, and irregular working $conditions(14.7\%)$ in order. 4. The solution to their fatigue at work appeared nothing by $50.1\%$, and the way of releasing fatigue after work indicated getting some $sleep(30.8\%)$, and taking a bath or a $shower(21.7\%)$ in order. 5. The degree of fatigue depending on whether they were satisfied with their pay and labor condition appeared low: and when they were satisfied with doctors. and when they were getting on well with caregivers. 6. The effective factor of the degree of fatigue appeared: the influence that fatigue in the hospital makes on daily life was $10.6\%$, the cause of fatigue at work, $9.3\%$, time of fatigue at work, $7.8\%$, the relationship with caregivers, $5.3\%$. and these explanatory$(R^2)$ variables.$33\%$. To conclude. the degree of nurses' fatigue appeared high. and it was higher in nurses at University Hospitals than in ones at General Hospitals. In addition, the influence that fatigue from the hospitals made on daily life was the most explanatory.

  • BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the unexpected early loss of leaves on a newly-bred kiwifruit on the regrowth of axillary buds the current season and the early growth and development the following year.METHODS AND RESULTS: The vines were defoliated on Jul. 18, Aug. 16, and Sep. 17 in 2012 and on Jul. 16, Aug. 13, and Sep. 12 in 2013. The vines were defoliated 0 (control), 50, and 100% of the total number of leaves on a vine. The regrowth of axillary buds at 30 days after defoliation increased in proportion to defoliation degrees regardless of the defoliated time. Defoliation the previous season did not influence percent budbreak the next season. Percentage of floral shoots of the control vines was 27.4%, each bearing 2-3 flowers. In those vines defoliated 100% in August and September, however, percent floral shoots and number of flowers significantly reduced.CONCLUSION(S): Defoliation in July, August, and September didnot affect percent budbreak the following year regardless of degrees of defoliation. A 100% defoliation in August and September significantly reduced flowering the following year compared to the control; that in August resulted in no floral buds at all.

  • Objectives : Currently, it is being reported that new health technology (HT) is introduced and spread throughout Korea at a very fast rate. However, the current status of new HT related to dentistry has not been known or studied. Therefore, this study aims to understand the present state and awareness on dentistry-related domestic new HT via surveys and research, and thus apply this as a reference to construct an effective new HT-related system in the field of dentistry. Methods : The assessment status of New Health Technology Assessment (nHTA) committee was searched on the website for any updates on new HT5). The cases were searched in the range between Jan 1 2012 and Jul 31 2016 by submission date and were analyzed by year, division of technology, progress and major operating practitioner. Among those, technologies utilized by dentists were additionally analyzed. The survey result was obtained by combining responses of 25 participants from the workshop for new HT application and 11 members of Korean Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (KAOMS). The workshop was co-hosted by KAOMS and Clinical Translational Research Center for Dental Science (CTRC) under Seoul National University Dental Hospital (SNUDH). Results : Most of the respondents to the survey have heard of new health technology but were unaware of the application procedure. 'Safety and effectiveness' was selected the most for things to consider when introducing new HT, followed by 'scientific evidence of the technology.' For new dental HT status, submissions between 2012 and Jul 31 2016 were analyzed by major operating practitioner, including cases where there are multiple practitioners. Yet, only 19 cases (17 %) of dentists were reported. Among 385 cases approved by nHTA, only 2 cases included dentists. Conclusions : Active publicity by the government on new HT and its application procedure, and continued interest and research in the dental and medical community is likely to be required for the development of dentistry.

  • This paper suggests the development of dynamic forecasting model for short-term power demand based on Radial Basis Function Network and Pal's GLVQ algorithm. Radial Basis Function methods are often compared with the backpropagation training, feed-forward network, which is the most widely used neural network paradigm. The Radial Basis Function Network is a single hidden layer feed-forward neural network. Each node of the hidden layer has a parameter vector called center. This center is determined by clustering algorithm. Theatments of classical approached to clustering methods include theories by Hartigan(K-means algorithm), Kohonen(Self Organized Feature Maps %3A SOFM and Learning Vector Quantization %3A LVQ model), Carpenter and Grossberg(ART-2 model). In this model, the first approach organizes the load pattern into two clusters by Pal's GLVQ clustering algorithm. The reason of using GLVQ algorithm in this model is that GLVQ algorithm can classify the patterns better than other algorithms. And the second approach forecasts hourly load patterns by radial basis function network which has been constructed two hidden nodes. These nodes are determined from the cluster centers of the GLVQ in first step. This model was applied to forecast the hourly loads on Mar. $4^{th},\;Jun.\;4^{th},\;Jul.\;4^{th},\;Sep.\;4^{th},\;Nov.\;4^{th},$ 1995, after having trained the data for the days from Mar. $1^{th}\;to\;3^{th},\;from\;Jun.\;1^{th}\;to\;3^{th},\;from\;Jul.\;1^{th}\;to\;3^{th},\;from\;Sep.\;1^{th}\;to\;3^{th},\;and\;from\;Nov.\;1^{th}\;to\;3^{th},$ 1995, respectively. In the experiments, the average absolute errors of one-hour ahead forecasts on utility actual data are shown to be 1.3795%.

  • Purpose: The primary goal of wound management is to avoid infection. Wounds in all patients presenting to the Emergency Department are contaminated with bacteria. Despite this, there is a low incidence of infection. Unfortunately, physicians continue to use antimicrobial agents indiscriminately. The authors intended to determine the effect of selective antimicrobial agents and the indications for appropriate antimicrobial agent use in traumatic simple wounds. Methods: This prospective study was performed from Jul. 2005 to Aug. 2005. A pilot study had been performed from Nov. 2003 to Jul. 2004 at the Ewha Woman's University Mokdong Hospital. Structured data sheets were completed at the times of the patient's visits to the Emergency Department and to the Outpatient Department for follow-up. Infection was determined at the time of follow-up. The indications of antimicrobial agent use are immunocompromised patients, wounds contaminated for 3 hours or longer, devitalized tissue, and extremity wounds except hand wounds caused by sharp objects. Results: The study enrolled 216 injured patients. The general characteristics of patients and wounds between the two groups were not significantly different. The antimicrobial agent use and infection rate of the pilot study were 227 cases (90.4%) and 10 cases (4.0%), and those of this study were 100 cases (46.3%) and 9 cases (4.1%). In this study, antibiotic use was reduced to almost half compared with the previous study, but the infection rate was similar (p<0.001). Conclusion: Rational use of antimicrobial agents in simple wounds reduced the use of antimicrobial agents in the Emergency Department without increasing the infection rate.
