  • To relize the future intelligent robot the development of a special-purpose processor for a coordinate transformation is evidently challenging task. In this case the complexity of a hardware architecture strongly depends on the adopted algorithm. In this paper we have used an inverse kinemetics algorithm based on incremental unit computation method. This method considers the 3-axis articulated robot as the combination of two types of a 2-axis robot: polar robot and 2-axis planar articulated one. For each robot incremental units in the joint and Cartesian spaces are defined. With this approach the calculation of the inverse Jacobian matrix can be realized through a simple combinational logic gate. Futhermore, the incremental computation of the DDA integrator can be used to solve the direct kinematics. We have also designed a hardware architecture to implement the proposed algorithm. The architecture consists of serveral simple unitsl. The operative unit comprises several basic operators and simple data path with a small bit-length. The hardware architecture is realized byusing the EPLD. For the straight-line motion of the KAIST arm we have obtained maximum end effector's speed of 12.6 m/sec by adopting system clock of 8 MHz.

  • The horizontal fillet joint is one of the most important weld joints in the shipbuilding industry. High-speed rotating arc welding, which can increase the leg length, is an effective way to improve the weld productivity and quality for the horizontal fillet welding. Based on the Taguchi method, the effects of welding parameters on bead characteristics - leg length, asymmetry, undercut, overlap - are investigated fur high-speed welding process. As a result, the adequate welding parameters are selected for the required leg length, symmetric bead and no undercut. Besides, considerably consistent leg length is observed for the horizontal fillet welding with gap variation up to 3mm.

  • Over its 30-year lifetime, UKIRT has been the world's leading telescope devoted exclusively to observations in the infrared. Its outstanding success over this period is attributable to a number of factors, foremost among which are the size (3.6m) and high quality of the mirror, the excellent site at the summit of Mauna Kea, and the deployment of unique, world-beating instrumentation. In recent years, as the UK has re-directed its investment in astronomical facilities towards ESO, UKIRT has focussed on wide-field imaging in the near infrared, and we are currently conducting a definitive programme known as the UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey (UKIDSS). In this presentation I will describe UKIRT's current capabilities, its evolving operation, opportunities for Korean participation, and possibilities for its future development.

  • Recently, to overcome the disadvantages of RC decks, advanced countries such as Japan and USA, and Europe are using prestressing connection precast decks and loop connection precast decks. The prestressing connection precast deck, however, has a weakness against steel corrosion, because of unreliable enforced grouting. The relatively low loading and fatigue capacities of the loop connection precast deck make it difficult to be used for the bridge that requires high fatigue resistance due to the frequent over loaded vehicles. This research proposes the improved connecting method for the precast decks to minimize its shortcomings based on both numerical analyses and full scale model tests. The proposed method maximizes the advantages of precast decks and extends it's service life.

  • This research studied necessary digital Interior Design education and certification formality for Dept. of Interior Design students' percentage of employment raising and competitive power elevation of industry by the support of 2005 junior college finance support business from the Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development. Contents of this research is built from joint research by vender of software, which has the highest distribution and preference rate of digital Interior Design related software in industry, and The Korea Digital Architecture and Interior Association, and Daeduk college. The necessary certification standard and course-ware for employment of graduates were developed. There are descriptions for students' needs on digital Interior Design related practical application ability that can receive authentication, And made out education schedule as well as contents so that execution of authentication and education may be possible.

  • Recently, the robot control systems are required to be more flexible and intelligent in order to execute more complex and delicate tasks. As an approach to such system, a PC-based robot control system is presented in this paper. The axis controllers are independently designed for each joint of robot manipulator and are supervised by a personal computer. Therefore, the almost system program including the control algorithm can be easily developed and modified in the PC's environment. This proposed control system was successfully applied to 4 axis SCARA-type robot and the associated S/W modules were developed. We can construct sensory robot systems by simply connecting the sensing devices to the PC and the study on this now being progressed.

  • One of the major requirements in preventing Work-related MusculoSkeletal Disorders(WMSDs) is to know definitely what vigorous exertion requirements are contained in a job. This requires improved job analysis tools which can accurately evaluate potentially harmful stresses to the musculoskeletal system. But to simply evaluate the level of stress at a joint, or in a muscle is not enough to motivate job changes. Therefore, the development of ergonomic evaluation tools for the jobs are important to ergonomics. The main objective is compared of the results that made by the ergonomic evaluation tools (e.g., BRIEF and RULA) in actually shoes manufacturing. These were developed in the foreign. So, it is priory needed to research of the ergonomics about Korean characteristic work by physiology and biomechanics.

Development of CRISPR/Cas9 system for targeted DNA modifications and recent improvements in modification efficiency and specificity

  • The targeted nuclease clustered, regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/CRISPR-associated proteins (CRISPR/Cas) system has recently emerged as a prominent gene manipulation method. Because of its ease in programming targeted DNA/protein binding through RNA in a vast range of organisms, this prokaryotic defense system is a versatile tool with many applications in the research field as well as high potential in agricultural and clinical improvements. This review will present a brief history that led to its discovery and adaptation. We also present some of its restrictions, and modifications that have been performed to overcome such restrictions, focusing specifically on the most common CRISPR/Cas9 mediated non-homologous end joint repair.

Subsystem Synthesis Methods with Independent Coordinates for Real-Time Multibody Dynamics

  • For real time dynamic simulation, two different subsystem synthesis methods with independent generalized coordinates have been developed and compared. In each formulation, the subsystem equations of motion are generated in terms of independent generalized coordinates. The first formulation is based on the relative Cartesian coordinates with respect to moving subsystem base body. The second formulation is based on the relative joint coordinates using recursive formulation. Computational efficiency of the formulations has been compared theoretically by the arithmetic operational counts. In order to verify real-time capability of the formulations, bump run simulations of a quarter car model with SLA suspension subsystem have been carried out to measure the actual CPU time.

FCST, Its Foundation and Early History (FCST의 초기 역사)

  • Objectives: Functional Cerebrospinal Therapy (FCST) is a rather new physiologic therapeutics. It has passed about two decades since its basic idea was founded. This study briefly reviewed its early history. Methods: The first FCST patient was a stroke patient in the year 1992. Basic ideas of FCST was devised one by one and later developed into a systematic clinical application. The first official lecture was held in the year 2004. Yinyang balance in the meridian-system-based network over the whole body was a mainstay idea. Results: As other stories on newly-developed therapeutics, there was an effort to make a breakthrough for difficult clinical problems, and followed by a creative initial idea along with incessant refinement in the early history of FCST. Conclusions: Patient-centered approaches was a mainspring in the development and refinement of FCST. History of FCST hereafter may well follow the trace.
