Effect of Various Factors on the Brazed Joint Properties in Al Brazing Technology

  • Last few decades have seen a rapid increase in the fabrication and characterization of Al alloys for automobiles, heat exchangers and aerospace industries. Aluminium alloys are popular because of their high specific strength, light weight, excellent wear and high oxidation resistance. The development of aluminium alloys in these applications makes their study and research of utmost importance. Brazing is applied to the aluminium alloys for joining various aluminium parts together in most of the industrial applications. Various parameters affect the joining process of these aluminium alloys. In this article, various types of processing parameters have been discussed, and special attention has been given to the category of aluminium brazing alloys. The article reviews on the various parameters that affect the brazing property in various scientific and technological applications.

서보모터방식 마찰용접을 이용한 TiAl 합금과 SCM440의 접합에 미치는 용접조건의 영향 (Effects on the Joining Condition of TiAl Alloy and SCM440 by Servo Motor Type Friction Welding)

  • In this study, characteristics of TiAl alloy and SCM440 (Cr-Mo steel) have been investigated with the various joining condition by servo motor type friction welder. The experimental factors of friction welder used in this study are spindle revolution, friction speed, and distance, upset speed and distance, respectively. Servo motor type friction welder could be controlled by the level of oil pressure, and it could be performed by position control dependence of electrical energy. Mechanical properties and morphology of welded interface were characterized by various joining condition. This aroused due to the bond strength dependence on friction heat and size of the heat affected zone. Therefore, it is necessary to have enough friction heat and decreased heat affected zone for good friction welding between dissimilar metals. An optimum bond was obtained between TiAl alloy and SCM440 by controlling friction speed and distance. At the spindle revolution 4,000 rpm, friction speed 120 mm/min, friction distance 15 mm, the bond strength was found to be 312 MPa.

NO ROOT GAP HORIZONTAL BUTT-WELDING WITH MAG PROCESS

  • It has been used many kinds of horizontal butt-welding methods at block-to-block erection stage in shipbuilding companies. For examples, some companies use conventional FCA W process with one side or both sides groove joint welding, others use carriage with torch holder type mechanized welding method. Although lots of efforts were done until now, some problems in quality and productivity still remain in ship's hull welding. In this study, we have attempted to raise productivity and quality on horizontal position of welding with following 3 items. 1) Prepare groove condition with no root gap for making easy fit-up work. 2) Develop improved MAG (100% $CO_2$ gas shielding) welding process with solid wire for making sound root bead from one side. 3) Develop and apply quite new automatic welding carriage. The stability of new welding process was confirmed by conducting mechanical tests of weldments to verify the soundness of weldments.

  • 최근 전 세계적으로 유가상승 및 환경에 대한 관심이 증대되면서 자동차 업계에서는 차량 경량화를 통한 연비향상에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 대표적인 차량 경량화 방법으로 초경량 철강 차체의 개발을 들 수 있는데 이는 고강도강을 차체에 적용함으로써 강성을 증대시킴과 동시에 두께 감소에 의한 경량화를 이루는 방법이다. 하지만 고강도강은 자체의 높은 강성을 지니는 반면 첨가된 합금원소에 의하여 용접성이 떨어지는 제약을 가지고 있다. 펄스 GMA 용접은 One Drop Per Pulse (ODPP) 의 안정된 용적 이행으로 스패터 발생이 거의 없으며 일반 GMA 용접에 비하여 용접성이 우수하여 자동차 차체 조립공정에 적용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 440MPa 급 도금, 비도금 강판 및 이종 강판의 겹치기 용접 실험을 통해 강종별, 두께별 펄스 아크 용접에 대한 용접성 평가 및 데이터 베이스를 구축하고자 하였다. 용접부 단면마크로, 인장시험, 경도시험을 통해 적정 용접영역을 확보하였으머, 고속카메라 촬영을 통해 보호가스에 따른 용적 이행 현상을 확인하였다.

레이저 위빙을 적용한 알루미늄 합금 5J32-T4의 용접균열 저감 및 용접강도 향상에 관한 연구 (Crack Susceptibility Reduction and Weld Strength Improvement for Al Alloy 5J32-T4 by using Laser Weaving Method)

  • 레이저 용접은 아크 용접에 비해 상대적으로 빠른 용접과 깊은 용입이 가능하며, 낮은 열입력을 가지는 장점이 있다. 하지만 알루미늄 합금 용접 시 균열 감수성의 증가 및 용접강도가 저하되는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이러한 단점을 극복하는 방법으로 모재의 화학조성을 제어하는 방법과 부가적인 용접와이어를 공급하는 방법이 제안되었으나 레이저 용접에 적용하기 쉽지 않다. 아크 용접과 전자빔 용접에서는 열원에 오실레이션을 적용하여 결정립 구조를 제어하여 용접강도를 증가하는 방법이 제안되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 알루미늄 합금 5J32-T4의 용접균열 저감 및 용접강도 향상을 위해 레이저 위빙을 적용하였다. 1mm 두께의 알루미늄 5J32-T4를 사용하였으며, 4kW급 디스크 레이저와 레이저용 스케너를 이용하여 레이저 위빙을 구현하였다. 고온균열을 평가하기 위해 자기구속형 균열 평가방법을 사용하였으며, 용접강도를 평가하기 위해 겹치기 용접을 수행한 시편을 이용하였다. 고온균열 실험결과 레이저 위빙 적용 시 직선 용접에 비해 균열 감수성이 감소한 것을 확인하였다. 전단인장강도 측정결과 레이저 위빙의 적용에 따라 직선 용접에 비해 높은 전단인장강도의 확보가 가능하였다.

Bonding Temperature Effects of Robust Ag Sinter Joints in Air without Pressure within 10 Minutes for Use in Power Module Packaging

  • Ag sintering technologies have received great attention as it was applied to the inverter of Tesla's electric vehicle Model III. Ag sinter bonding technology has advantages in heat dissipation design as well as high-temperature stability due to the intrinsic properties of the material, so it is useful for practical use of SiC and GaN devices. This study was carried out to understand the sinter joining temperature effect on the robust Ag sintered joints in air without pressure within 10 min. Electroplated Ag finished Cu dies (3 mm × 3 mm × 2 mm) and substrates (10 mm × 10 mm × 2 mm) were introduced, respectively, and nano Ag paste was applied as a bonding material. The sinter joining process was performed without pressure in air with the bonding temperature as a variable of 175 ℃, 200 ℃, 225 ℃, and 250 ℃. As results, the bonding temperature of 175 ℃ caused 13.21 MPa of die shear strength, and when the bonding temperature was raised to 200 ℃, the bonding strength increased by 157% to 33.99 MPa. When the bonding temperature was increased to 225 ℃, the bonding strength of 46.54 MPa increased by about 37% compared to that of 200 ℃, and even at a bonding temperature of 250 ℃, the bonding strength exceeded 50 MPa. The bonding strength of Ag sinter joints was directly influenced by changes in the necking thickness and interfacial connection ratio. In addition, developments in the morphologies of the joint interface and porous structure have a significant effect on displacement. This study is systematically discussed on the relationship between processing temperatures and bonding strength of Ag sinter joints.

  • This study was undertaken to obtain an improved understanding of the effects of alloying elements on the residual amounts of Mg in the melt and on the resultant microstructure of compacted vermicular graphite cast irons, and the influence of alloying elements and cooling rates during solidification on the formation of phosphide eutectics, and on the mechanical properties of compacted vermicular graphite cast irons containing copper, tin, molybdenum for producing pearlitic matrix, and also containing phosphorus and boron for increasing wear resistance were evaluated.

작은 그루브 각을 가지는 맞대기 P-GMA 용접에서의 용접전류에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Welding Current in Butt Joint P-GMA Welding with Acute Groove Angles)

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a mathematical model of welding current for the P-GMAW by modifying the well known GMAW model. Welding power circuit is simply modeled as a RL electric circuit and solved as an ODE equation. The welding current depends on the joint shape, molten pool and welding parameters. To compare the molten pool effect to the welding current, CFD numerical simulation technique was adopted. Welding experiment is also conducted with the same welding parameters as used in numerical simulations to verify the proposed welding current model. The current model which is considered molten pool shape, is more fit to experiment result.

  • Recent developing tendency of overlay welding on welding methods are studied by searching of NDSL, ScienceDirect and KIPRIS. PTA, Laser cladding, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, SAW and ESW are selected as welding methods. Development and improvement of various new overlay welding processes and technology are introduced, especially PTA and Laser cladding in abroad overlay welding technology are activated substantially.
