  • Limonoid UDP-glucosyltransferase (LUGT) is an enzyme that converts limonoids into their corresponding glucosides and ultimately ameliorates limonoid bitterness in Citrus species. In this paper, the LUGT gene was cloned via PCR from 10 Jeju Citrus species. All the deduced glucosyltransferase proteins harbored a highly conserved plant secondary product glucosyltransferase (PSPG) motif within the C terminal region. Phylogenetic analysis based on the amino acid sequence comparison of the LUGT proteins from 10 Citrus species generated three distinct types. The expression patterns of LUGT gene in three representative species from each type were quite different with that of C. unshiu Marc. cv. Miyagawawase(Gungcheon), which his without distinctive juice delayed bitterness. Ourresultssho wth at some Citrus speciessuchas Citrusleiocarpa HORT(Bingul), Citruserythrosa HORT (Dongjunggul), and Citrustachibana TANAKA(Honggul) end emicin Jeju maybe susceptible to intense juice delayed bitterness due to delay inexpression of LUGT.

  • The regional economy growth of Jeju has seen higher than national growth since 2011 by the establishment of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and the increase of incoming population, but its economic growth has slowed after 2016. This study conducted the dynamic shift-share analysis using the production and employees of each industry from 2010 to 2016, targeting Jeju with many factors of regional economic change. In the results of empirical analysis, the regional economy of Jeju was not the industrial structure depending on the national growth, but the industrial structure by the competitiveness and industrial structure of Jeju region. The industries having positive(+) effects of industrial mix effect and competitive effect on the production and the number of employees were the electricity/gas/heavy equipments & waterworks, construction, accommodation & restaurants, and service industry. These industries have positive effects on the regional industry of Jeju. The above-mentioned industries are not only more likely to grow than other regions, but also to drive the local economy of Jeju. In order for these industries to continuously contribute to the regional economy of Jeju, it would be necessary to have the policy/institutional support in the long-term perspective.

  • The $TomoTherapy^{(R)}$ beam-delivery method creates helical beam-junctioning patterns in the dose distribution within the target. In addition, the dose discrepancy results in the particular region where the resonance by pattern of dose delivery occurs owing to the change in the position and shape of internal organs with a patient's respiration during long treatment times. In this study, we evaluated the dose pattern of the longitudinal profile with the change in respiration. The superior-inferior motion signal of the programmable respiratory motion phantom was obtained using AbChes as a four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) original moving signal. We delineated virtual targets in the phantom and planned to deliver the prescription dose of 300 cGy using field widths of 1.0 cm, 2.5 cm, and 5.0 cm. An original moving signal was fitted to reflecting the beam delivery time of the $TomoTherapy^{(R)}$. The EBT3 film was inserted into the phantom movement cassette, and static, without the movement and with the original movement, was measured with signal changes of 2.0 s, 4.0 s, and 5.0 s periods, and 2.0 mm and 4.0 mm amplitudes. It was found that a dose fluctuation within ${\pm}4.0%$ occurred in all longitudinal profiles. Compared with the original movement, the region of the gamma index above 1 partially appeared within the target and the border of the target when the period and amplitude were changed. Gamma passing rates were 95.00% or more. However, cases for a 5.0 s period and 4.0 mm amplitude at a field width of 2.5 cm and for 2.0 s and 5.0 s periods at a field width of 5.0 cm have gamma passing rates of 92.73%, 90.31%, 90.31%, and 93.60%. $TomoTherapy^{(R)}$ shows a small difference in dose distribution according to the changes of period and amplitude of respiration. Therefore, to treat a variable respiratory motion region, a margin reflecting the degree of change of respiration signal is required.

  • We have performed the CSAMT survey to examine the geoelectrical structure and groundwater distribution for two survey lines across the south-eastern region of Jeju Island. Three kinds of 1-D inversion techniques were employed taking account of the geological situation around the observation sites, and their inversion results were concurrently compared and analyzed to improve the reliability of interpretation. The resultant inverted resistivity structures reveals the three-layered structure, which is composed of the layers with a high-low-lower resistivity from the surface downward. Through the comparison of the inverted resistivity model and core log of deep borehole nearby observation sites, the lithology of each inverted layer was inferred. The first layer and second layer corresponded to the basaltic layer with a thickness of $100{\sim}250m$, and the third layer to the Seoguipo Formation and the U Formation; the thickness of the Seoguipo Formation could not be estimated due to the limitation of investigation depth and little resistivity difference between both Formations. Nevertheless, the Seoguipo Formation, which is strongly associated with the groundwater system in the south-eastern region of Jeju Island, showed the conspicuous spatial continuity from the middle mountain area to coastal area.

  • In order to monitor a rotating cylindrical separator for radioactive waste, an electrical resistance method is proposed and its mathematical model is investigated. In a rotating radioactive waste separator, the electrical resistance between a pair of electrodes mounted on the inner wall of the vessel is related to the thickness of annular region of insoluble particle formed around the periphery and the concentration of the insoluble particle in that region. This work presents an analytical relationship among the aforementioned parameters based on a two-dimensional solution to the electrical potential equation and an empirical conductivity-concentration relation. Also, the feasibility of electrical resistance method for monitoring rotating cylindrical separators is discussed.

  • The objective of this paper is to search the factors inducing the visitors to revisit in Bangeo Festival of Jeju region. To get this objective, this study analyzed the data with the Multinomial Logit Model applied dependent variable to intention of revisit. As a result, 'festival program' factor is the most important thing and if the factor increases by 1 unit, the probability of 'revisit' can be increased by 5.255 times than the probability of 'no revisit'. Secondly, the next significant factors are 'festival convenience' and 'festival recognition in advance'. So the providers of the festival will intend to prepare the festival focused on the important factor proposed by this results.

  • This study aimed at quantifying the impact of the reinforced standard for envelope insulation on heating and cooling energy consumption in a Korean detached house as well as at identifying the effect of regionally subdivided standards. For them, a series of simulations for application of the reinforced standard on respective walls, roof, floor, windows, and all envelopes were computationally conducted for a prototypical detached residential building. In addition, the subdivided standards were applied to each regions-central and southern regions, and the Jeju island. Analysis revealed that heat transfer through envelopes was the most significant source of building heat gain and loss; the reinforced standard effectively reduced heating energy consumptions, especially in central region; and the subdivided standards did not presented a clear difference in the amount of energy consumption for the southern region and the Jeju island, thus, a further study is required to investigate the necessity of regional subdivisions.
