The experimental investication wax performed to study fitness of casting crowns with various investment widely used in Korea. 36 wax patterns were invested and casted according to the regular casting method. The result were as follow : 1. Casting with cristobalite investments of Shofu were seen apart, 0.04mm the tightest space in the linguo and bucco-cervical margin. And the largest deviation, 0.1mm was shown in the central groove 0.1mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Jensen Metal) 2. Casting with cristobalite investments of kerr were seen apart, 0.04mm the tightest space in the linguo and bucco-cervical margin And the largest deviation, 0.09 was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Jensen Metal) 3. Casting with Quartz investments of G-C were seen apart, 0.04mm the tightest space in the linguo-cervical margin, And the largest deviation, 0.1mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Jensen Metal) 4. Casting with cristobalite investments of shofu were seen apart, 0.01mm the tightest space in the linguo-cervical margin, And the largest deviation, 0.03mm was shown in the central groove of occusal surface(Bo-sung A type gold alloy) 5. Casting with cristobalite investments of kerr showed the best fintness in linguo-cervical margin. And the largest deviation, 0.02mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Bosung A type gold alloy) 6. Casting with Quartz investments of G-C were Seen apart, 0.02mm the tightest space in the linguo-cervical margin, And the largest deviation, 0.04mm was shown in the central groove area of occlusal surface(Bo-sung A type gold alloy) 7. And the largest deviation, 0.08mm was shown in the buccal cusp area of occlusal surface(Bo-sung B type gold alloy) 8. Casting with cristobalite investments of kerr shown the best fitness and Bo-sung A type gold alloy showed the best fitness.
Statement of problem. Titanium-Nickel alloy might be used in various prosthetic restorations since it has a unique property such as super-elasticity and high fatigue resistance. However, little is known about the casting ability of this alloy. Purpose. This in vitro study compared the casting accuracy and the porosity made with different investments and various sprue designs to ascertain what casting condition would be better for the fabrication of Ti-Ni cast restorations. Material and methods. A total of 70 Ti-Ni alloy crowns were made and divided into 7 groups of 10 copings on a metal master die. For measuring the effect of the sprue numbers, two groups with one and two 8-gauge sprues were compared. Moreover, the results of the conventional sprue and the double thickness sprues were compared. Three investments were used; carbon free phosphate bonded investment, titanium investment and gypsum bonded investment. The cast restorations were evaluated at 48 points on the entire circumferential margin with a stereomicroscope measuring in micrometers. Each crown was radiographically examined for casting defects and porosity. Data on casting accuracy were analyzed using two-way and Post hoc Scheffe's comparison to determine whether significant differences existed at the 95% confidence level. Student-Newman-Keuls test were performed to identify significant differences in the number of voids. Results. The double sprueing group and double thickness group had significantly less marginal discrepancy than the single sprueing group (P<.05 and P<.01, respectively). The castings with phosphate bonded investment showed the least marginal discrepancy and the smoothest surface. The castings invested in the gypsum bonded investment had the greatest gaps in margin and the largest failure rate. The double sprueing group and phosphate bonded investment group had significantly smaller void numbers and smaller void size than the other groups. Conclusion. Within the limitations of this in vitro study, the casting accuracy of the groups using thicker, double sprue design and the phosphate bonded investment was significantly superior. Moreover, void number and size were less than other groups.
Statement of problem: There has been a eat interest in the use of titanium for fixed and removable prostheses in recent because of its excellent biocompatibility. However, the melting temperature and chemical reactivity of titanium necessities casting system different from those used in conventional casting. The current titanium casting systems are based on an electric-arc design for melting the metal in an argon atmosphere and its exclusive investment. Despite the new development in Ti casting system, inadequate mold filling and internal porosity are frequently observed casting defects. Purpose : The purposes of this study were to compare the castibility and reaction layer of the casting titanium under the two casting machines and their investment condition. Material and method: coping and machine-milled titanium coping according to the casting methods and the marginal configurations. The total 28 specimens were used, and these are divided into 4 groups according to 2 casting machines and 2 investments. The castings were analyzed using x-ray microanalysis and microhardness testing. The reaction layer between margin of titanium casting and the investments was observed and analyzed with scanning electron microscope. Result: 1. Castabiliy of casting titanium specimen was best in the group of centrifugal casting machine and Selevest $CB^{\circledR}$ and good that of Selevest CB and pressure differential casting machine, Rematitan plus and centrifugal casting machine, Rematitan plus and pressure differential casting machine in order. 2. There was no significanct correlation in titanium castability in respect of casting machine. However ANOVA indicated that Selevest $CB^{\circledR}$ groups had significantly better castability than Rematitan $plus^{\circledR}$ groups.(p<0.05) 3. There was a significant microhardness difference between centrifugal casting machine groups and pressure differential groups.(p<0.05) Titanium castings in centifugal groups had significantly harder than those in pressure differential groups. 4. The addition of zirconia decreased interfacial reactivity. Conclusion: above result revealed that of the castability of titanium casting specimens had little correlation in casting machines and was better in magnesia-based investment contained ZrO2 groups. However in order to practice casting titanium in clininic, its castability should be improved, also there should be more research on factor of castability so that long-span prothesis and removable partial denture metla frame may be casted completly.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to analysis the composition on the centrifugal casting and the oxide on the casting temperature. Methods: The nickel based alloy were used in this study. Wax pattern specimens (10*10*2) were invested with phosphate-bonded investment in metal rings, the liquid/powder ratio and overall burn-out schedules for these investments were followed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. After casting, the alloy specimens were evaluated as regards composition(EPMA). The casting temperatures were as follows: $1400^{\circ}C$ and $1700^{\circ}C$. The quantitative analysis of oxides were scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) and line scanning. Results: Nearer the injection lines showed that there is a large amount of nickel. Quantitative of oxides of Ni-Cr alloy cast from $1400^{\circ}C$ is lager than Ni-Cr alloy cast from $1700^{\circ}C$. Metal-mold reactions between investment mold and TiAl alloys were investigated for the economic net-shape forming of TiAl alloys. The effect of mold preheating temperatures on the metal-mold reaction were investigated using a vacuum induction-melting furnace. In the case of TiAl alloys, there were no ${\alpha}$-case formation reactions. There were neither interstitial nor substitutional ${\alpha}$-case formations as TiAl alloys have both negligible solubility of oxygen and low activity in molten states. The fluidity of TiAl alloys increases with mold preheating temperature since they have a peritectic reaction that appears in the form of envelope, surrounding each particles of the primary constituent. The results of the investment casting of TiAl alloys confirm that the casting route in our study can be an effective approach for the economic net-shape forming of TiAl alloys.
The purpose of this study was to measure thermal expansions of dental investments, Biovest(Casting Investment. Dentsply International INC, U.S.A.), Multi-Best (Use for all dental chrome-cobalt alloys, The Ransom & Randolph Co. U.S.A.), Kerr(Inlay Investment. Sybron Kerr, U.S.A.), O. K. (Inlay Investment. Shofu Dental MFG, Co. Japan), Whip-Mix (Cristobalite Inlay Investment. Whip-Mix Corporation. U.S.A.). Thermal expansion of specimens(5mm in diameter and 50mm in length) was measured by a dilatometer at the temperature range from $20^{\circ}C$ to $700^{\circ}C$ by comparing expansion between standardized quartz and experimental specimens with heating rate about $300^{\circ}C$/hr. The following results were obtained. 1. The coefficient of thermal expansion of Biovest was $15{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 18/100 and $14{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 28/100. Those of Multi-Best were $9{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 14/100 and $7{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 24/100. 2. The coefficient of thermal expansion of Kerr were $17{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 38/100 and $14{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}c$ in the water powder ratio 48/100. Those of O. K. were $9{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 33/100 and $7{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ratio 43/100 3. The coefficient of thermal expansion of Whip-Mix were $14{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ in the water powder ritio 40/100 and $12{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}c$ Fein the water powder ratio 50/100. Those of Hi-Heat were $11{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}c$ in the water powder ratio 28/100 and $10{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}c$ in the water powder ratio 38/100.
In order to investigate the effect of particle size and distribution of silica sand on the characteristics of investment, W/P ratio, setting time, temperature change during setting, setting expansion, thermal expansion and compressive strength of the investments were measured. In this experiment, magnesia clinker and mono ammonium phosphate were used as binder, and particle size and distribution of silica sand were classified for convinence into 10 categories. The main results obtained from this investigation were summerized as follows. 1. W/P ratio decreased with increase of particle size and evenness in distribution of sand grain. 2. Setting time decreased with increase of evenness in distribution of sand grain, and temperature during setting increased with evenness in distribution of sand grain. 3. Setting expansion decreased with increase of particle size, while it increased with evenness in distribution of sand grain. 4. Thermal expansion decreased with increase of particle size. 5. Compressive strength increased with increase of particle size and evenness in distribution of sand grain. From above results, G.F.N. 250 sand which contains 30% of 50-100 mesh could be recommended for investment casting.

In this study the effect of the production parameters which are included the ratio of quartz and cristobalite, the content of binder, the water powder ratio and the content and concentration of additives on the Properties of the gypsum-bonded investments has been investigated with help of the consistency test, the vicat needle test, the compressive strength test, the thermal expansion test, x-ray diffraction and DTA thermal differential test. The experimental results showed that the constitution of a investment with W/P ratio of 0.34, 30% of gypsum, 0.8% aluminium sulfate, 2% magnesium sulfate, 0.6% sodium phosphate was adapted for the properties of the KDA Spec. No. 13 type I investment. The important experimental results are summarized as follows. 1. The consistency of the investment decreased with increasing amount of aluminium sulfate and decreasing amount of sodium phosphate. An addition of magnesium sulfate up to 2% an increase of the consistency was shown. But 3% magnesium sulfate in investment showed a decrease of the consistency. The consistency did not vary significantly with a variation of the content of gypsum and cristobalite and the W/P ratio. 2. Aluminium sulfate and the magnesium sulfate promoted the hardening and the aluminium phosphate delayed the hardening. The setting time increased with amount of gypsum. The effect of the matrix on the setting time was insignificant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the setting time was 14 min. 3. The compressive strength decreased with the amount of aluminium sulfate up to 0.25% and increased with the amount of aluminium sulfate greater than 3%. The compressive strength decreased as decreasing the amount of magnesium sulfate and gypsum and as increasing the W/P ratio. The effect of the refractory on the compressive strength was also not significant. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the compressive strength was $34Kg/mm^2$. 4. The 1st thermal expansion was found at the temperature near and the steady state or the contraction stage was found at the temperature between $250^{\circ}C$ and $500^{\circ}C$. After this stage the 2nd thermal expansion took place at the temperature near $500^{\circ}C$. The amount of thermal expansion increased with decreasing the content of magnesium sulfate, aluminium sulfate and gypsum and the W/P ratio. And the amount of thermal expansion increased as the content of sodium phosphate and cristobalite. With the W/P ratio of 0.34 the amount of total expansion was 1.2%.
