Actual Situation of the Intern Physical Therapist at Hospitals in the Seoul Metropolitan Region (수도권 소재 일부 의료기관의 인턴물리치료사 관련 실태)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide information and suggestions for improvement of the intern physical therapist. Methods: I used 'intern physical therapist' as a keyword, and searched using the Google Search Appliance. Hospitals in the Seoul metropolitan region were selected. Twenty six hospitals that operate the intern physical therapist system were selected. A survey was conducted using questionnaires from August 20, 2012 to August 30, 2012. Among the 26 submitted questionnaires, 24 responded, and the results were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0. Results: 1. Education: (1) Sexual harassment prevention training, infection control training was lower at the rehabilitation hospital and semi hospital than at the university hospital and general hospital. (2) The rehabilitation hospital provided more education for intern physical therapists than the university hospital. (3) University hospital practice location was more diverse than that of the rehabilitation hospital. (4) In the rehabilitation hospital, education of practical skill was somewhat higher. 2. The employment rate of people who have completed an internship was higher in the rehabilitation hospital than the university hospital. Conclusion: Trial employment is more reasonable than intern physical therapist at the semi general hospital and rehabilitation hospital. Council is needed for decisions regarding internship training curriculum.

A Study on Activation of Cooperative Employment through Long-term Field Placement: Based on Kumoh Institute of Technology including 3 Universities Case Study (장기현장실습을 통한 연계취업 활성화 방안 연구: 금오공과대학교 외 3개대학 사례를 중심으로)

  • Due to quantitative growth focused on short-term field placement and excessive competition between universities, the need for long-term field placement model is increasing and participation of government and universities is increasing for effective on-the-job training. In order to solve the problems of shortage of R&D manpower in small and medium sized companies, Kumoh Institute of Technology and three participating universities have been conducting industrial internship as R&D long-term field placement program from 2015. Students undertake long-term on-the-job training in the R & D department for six months to improve their R & D skills and strengthen their work capacity. In this paper, we propose effective ways of stimulating cooperative employment through long-term field placement in R&D departments from pre-preparation stage to ending stage through comparative analysis of cases of industrial internship in 2015 and 2016.

Thematic Analysis of the Therapeutic Song Writing Experience of Music Therapy Interns: A Focus Group (음악치료 인턴들의 치료적 노래만들기 경험에 대한 주제분석: 포커스 그룹을 중심으로)

  • The internship is essential for the music therapy curriculum and affords interns the opportunity to apply their classroom-based knowledge and skills to real-world clinical settings. However, challenges associated with the internship can result in interns undergoing trial-and-error learning, interpersonal conflicts, and intrapersonal difficulties. An experiential music therapy group may be useful in helping interns process these incidents and develop their personal and professional skills. We explored the experiences of music therapy interns participating in therapeutic song writing. In this study, five music interns completed two 4-hour sessions of therapeutic song writing. Following the second session, a group interview was conducted with participants to gather data on their experiences. The interview was recorded, transcribed, and analyzed. Six themes and 18 sub-themes were derived from the data. The six themes were preconceptions of therapeutic song writing, meaningful lyric creation, challenges in song composition, structured experiences during song writing process, development of self-awareness through music, and relational experiences resulting from the group process. Participants were able to incorporate their individual internship experiences into a single song by communicating with group members during the step-by-step process. Participation in therapeutic song writing was found to help music therapy interns identify and process challenges encountered during their internship and further their personal and professional development.

An Analysis on the Employment Status of KOSEF′s Research Internship Awardees in Earth Sciences (국내 자원환경지질 관련분야의 석${\cdot}$박사 학위자 진로분석연구 -과학재단 인턴연구원 및 미국 박사인력의 진로비교분석을 중심으로-)

  • This survey was conducted on KOSEF's research internship awardees (FY 1998 to 2001) in order to investigate the employment status of doctoral and master's degree holders in Geosciences in Korea. An unemployment rate of KOSEF's research internship awardees (FY 1998 to 2001) was 32.0 percent for the doctoral and master's degree holders in Geosciences. 37.2 percent of employed doctoral and master's degree holders only obtained employment as a full-time and part-time status in industry, research institutions and academia in Korea. The U.S. Census Bureau conducted the 2001 survey of doctoral recipients (SDR). Based on this survey, most U.S. doctoral holders were employed and an unemployment rate for 2001 was only 1.3 percent of the Geosciences doctoral holders. KOSEF or related academic societies should be able to provide a more precise information of the employment status for new doctoral and master's degree holders in Geosciences by conducting the survey of doctoral and master's degree recipients. The results of this survey will be used to understand and to predict trends in employment opportunities in Geosciences for doctoral and master's degree holders.

Study of Fashion Retail Management Curriculum - 4-year Colleges in Korea and the USA - (패션 소매 경영과정을 위한 교과과정 연구 - 한국과 미국 대학교를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the curricula majored in fashion retail related area at 4-year colleges in Korea and the USA. Courses were divided into 15 elements including basics, design, production, textile, marketing, industry, merchandise planning, promotion, consumer behaviour, management, business, organization, internship and etc.. The research findings were as follows: 1. Most of 'industry' related majors in Korea consisted of fashion manufacture-oriented curricula elements including design, pattern making, tailoring, draping and textile sciences. 2. Fashion Marketing major stressed on a merchandising element and a marketing one, and the Fashion major focused on the promotion element and the merchandising element as well. However, the retail element was less focused than other elements in the Korean colleges. 3. Fashion Retail related majors in the USA College were likely to focus on the practical fashion retail management elements including retail, marketing, management, business, organization behavior and internship specialized by the major. The different curricula between two countries were clearly existed in terms of the major name and the construction of the course element. The results made in the research would be applied with some modification or adjustments in the fashion retail oriented curricula in order to produce the competitive retail human resource in Korea.

Accelerating Change in Medical Education after the Dismantlement of the Intern Training System (인턴제도 폐지 논의 이후의 의학교육 변화)

  • In light of changes in today's medical environment, whether to dismantle the 50-year-old internship training system in the Republic of Korea is under debate. Although the question remains open, discussions on such issues have drawn attention to the quality of the clinical clerkship and student career advisory programs in medical colleges. The purpose of this study is to analyze the experiential clerkship and career exploration issues. Ensuring excellence of the clerkship and career advisory sessions is an essential responsibility of educational institutions regardless of whether the intern training system is dismantled. Important objectives of the experimental clerkship include reinforcing prerequisites established by law, introducing a student practice license, developing a standardized clinical assessment and student portfolio requirement, and publishing a guidebook for clinical directors. For career exploration, it is necessary to broaden participants' experiences of specialties and to manage the variety of student career guidance programs. It is imperative for the Korean Association of Medical Colleges, in collaboration with medical colleges, to play a leading role in focusing more attention and effort on such issues.

A Study on Excellent Universities with Video and Media Field in the USA

  • In this paper, I studied several universities which are especially famous for video and media fields in the United States to develop our international competitiveness. I selected the outstanding US universities and researched the various indexes of corresponding department, internship program and other activities related with company. Then, analyzed the research results and compared with the department of Video Broadcasting at the K women's university in our country. As a result, the retention rate and the graduate rate of the 4-years universities(bachelor's degree) are very higher than the 2-years associated degree among the US universities. On the other hand, although the department of Video Broadcasting at the K women's university is the associated degree course, it shows up the highest the retention rate and the graduate rate than the US universities. Therefore, we are able to recognize that K Women's University has managed its students well. However, the employment rate of the K Women's University was poor than the US universities due to the lack of the internship programs, other activities supported by companies and the career service center.

  • This paper develops a course named $\ulcorner$Academic Itnernship Program$\lrcorner$ that is designed to be offered jointly by the Statistics department and the Mathematics department. Our aim of developing the course is as follows. This program enhance students' academic and career goals. This program provides students with opportunities to apply classroom theory to real world situations. Students learn a practical theory that is actually used in the real industry. This program enhance students' skills and abilities. This provide financial assistance. Students get a competitive edge in employment after graduation.

Development of Learn-by-Doing Programs on Engineering Career Education Conducted with Collaboration from Private Company Engineers

  • We have constructed three characteristic internship programs which were based on the different aspects of view by the grant in aid from MEXT of Japanese government. The most outstanding program is what we call "Market Internship", where the students directly approach the market in which the engineering technologies are utilized. Then they must find out the problems and advantages of engineering technologies from the view of consumers. The experience would result in the enhancement of motivation to study the engineering technologies. It would be substantially effective in engineering education curriculums that the engineers of private companies in which university students will get their own jobs in near future could take important roles to conduct them. We believe that this activity would effective in reducing gaps they would feel between before and after getting jobs in practical society, and lowering the ratio of unemployment after getting jobs.
