  • This study illuminates the relationship between childhood abuse experiences and early maladaptive schemas, and compares the moderating effects of expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal within this relationship. Conducting a self-report survey among 220 graduate students in Daejeon and Chungcheong regions, data from 210 participants were analyzed. The results notably revealed that the interaction effect of suppression, but not cognitive reappraisal, significantly moderates the relationship between childhood abuse experiences and disconnection/rejection schemas. Specifically, high levels of expressive suppression were associated with a decrease in the negative impact of childhood abuse on disconnection/rejection schemas, whereas low levels of suppression increased this negative impact. This suggests that for individuals with long-standing early maladaptive schemas, which have solidified over time akin to personality traits, cognitive reappraisal strategies may be less effective in inducing change. Conversely, expressive suppression strategies may more effectively reduce the intensity of disconnection/rejection schemas, among other early maladaptive schemas. These findings provide important implications for understanding the long-term effects of childhood abuse and developing intervention strategies to mitigate its resultant maladaptive schemas. Based on the outcomes of this study, suggestions for future research are discussed, along with the potential applicability and limitations of suppression and reappraisal strategies in psychological interventions.

  • Signboard plays a pivotal role in crafting the initial impression of a storefront and contributing to the overall aesthetics of the local environment. Since 2012, the South Korean government has been annually implementing signboard improvement projects as part of its commitment to enhance urban landscapes and invigorate local business districts. Particularly noteworthy in recent years is the government's emphasis on creating signborad that aligns with the characteristics of the cities. This study aimed to investigate the impact on stores and the local area when incorporating local characteristics into signboard, with a focus on the mediating roles of informativeness, entertainment, and irritation. A survey was conducted among 150 undergraduate and graduate students who had experience visiting areas with improved signboard. The findings indicate that local fit of signboards has a positive impact on intention to visit store and area by mediating informativeness and entertainment. On the other hand, irritation does not exert a significant influence within this structural relationship. The results of this study contribute to broadening the scholarly understanding of signboards and signboard improvement, highlighting the importance of incorporating local characteristics into signboard to small business owners and local government practitioners.

  • This study investigated Korean medical students' satisfaction with education and examined the factors that affect the satisfaction with education. Based on a total of 372 survey responses, we analyzed the satisfaction with education by sectors, differences in the satisfaction with education between groups, and variables affecting the satisfaction with education. The results showed that the satisfaction with curriculum, instructors, evaluation, environment and overall education were all between 'neutral' and 'satisfied.' In addition, there were significant differences in overall satisfaction by gender and dropout experience, and the variables that significantly influenced overall satisfaction were curriculum, evaluation, and environment. This study is significant in that it investigated Korean medical students' satisfaction with education through the sophisticated measurements in various sectors, and suggested specific improvement strategies to increase educational satisfaction. However, there is a limitation that the results cannot be generalized because the study was limited to students at one university, so it is necessary to expand the scope of the further research to represent the population. Furthermore, it is necessary to collect and analyze data from various aspects, such as collecting qualitative data through student interviews to complement the quantitative data, so as to fully understand learners' needs. It is hoped that this study will encourage theoretical and practical research for improving Korean medicine education.

  • The South Korean marine industry is emerging as a significant market, driven by the growing popularity of various water leisure activities, including sailing. This trend suggests a rising demand for sailing yachts. Consequently, since 2022, the design and development of a 28ft sailing yacht have been ongoing, supported by the government and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, to promote yachting culture in South Korea. The Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) analysis was conducted using WinDesign during the preliminary design stage to evaluate performance and determine design parameters. The hydrodynamic model used for this vessel is based on regression methods developed from years of experience in naval architecture and yacht research at the Wolfson Unit, providing reliable estimates for most modern yachts. However, owing to the lack of specific hydrodynamic data from towing tank tests or CFD numerical analysis, verification of the hydrodynamic model has faced some challenges. Additionally, an incomplete weight estimate resulted in variable VCG values, potentially affecting stability and overall performance. The optimal boat speed for this vessel was determined at true wind speeds (TWS) of 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 knots, using both the jib (up to 120° TWA) and the spinnaker (from 80° TWA). The optimized speed of the yacht was found to be comparable to that of international similar-class yachts.

  • In this study, the authors developed and implemented an online music-based support program to prevent burnout among university hospital nurses. This study involved 40 nurses from three university hospitals who shared their subjective experiences after participating in 8 music-based non-simultaneous online sessions. The responses were collected as qualitative data and analyzed using the qualitative content analysis method. The analysis identified 66 meaning units, 10 themes, and 3 categories, which included: 'Recovery of physical and psychological stability', 'Self-care and acceptance', and 'Rediscovery of pride and meaning as a nurse'. This study is significant for exploring the experiences of university hospital nurses who participated in a remotely implemented music-based psycho-emotional support program, with respect to burnout prevention. For future directions, we suggest a more in-depth exploration of specific burnout factors and an expansion of research through the diversification of research methods to refine programs aimed at alleviating nurse burnout.
